I enjoyed the experience and the strength it took to be present in another country. The instructors have a passion of the skill set and know how to engage effectively. The leads were able to give direction as well as notify us of things that are important. I truly loved it and would love to help in the country. This was an amazing experience.

Lex Fellowship - Spain

I was extremely anxious for this program as it was my first time traveling alone, and to a European country, however I had an amazing time. Great friendships were created, lasting memories were made, and valuable experience was gained. I'm extremely grateful to have had that opportunity as it confirmed that I wanted to pursue law, and even exposed me to new options such as different fields of law and even working internationally. The city managers were friendly and hilarous, positively adding to the experience and exposing us to new places/foods.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I were to do this program again, I wouldn't take a summer course concurrently as I was constantly deciding between doing my coursework and exploring the city. I wish that I had the freedom to be completely immersed in the trip and to not have worried about anything else.
Pros
  • Relationship Building
  • New Global Perspectives
  • Legal Exposure
Cons
  • Money

Awesome

My Lex Fellowship experience in Valencia, Spain was an unforgettable journey that combined cultural immersion, academic enrichment, and personal growth in ways I could not have imagined beforehand. From the moment I arrived in Valencia, I was captivated by the city’s unique blend of history and modernity with medieval architecture standing proudly alongside contemporary structures, the bustling plazas filled with the hum of conversation, and the lively energy of locals who take pride in their culture. What stood out most, however, was the opportunity to gain hands on exposure to international law through visits to firms and conversations with practicing attorneys. Each firm we visited opened a new window into the multifaceted world of law, from corporate practice to intellectual property to international arbitration, and I left each meeting with a deeper appreciation for the ways legal systems intersect with global business, politics, and culture. The attorneys we met generously shared their career journeys, challenges, and insights into the legal field, and their willingness to answer questions gave me clarity about the demands and rewards of practicing law. Beyond the professional aspects, Valencia itself became a classroom. Walking through the City of Arts and Sciences, exploring the vibrant Mercado Central, and learning about the city’s deep rooted traditions like Las Fallas allowed me to see how culture and law intertwine, shaping identity and community. Even simple daily experiences, such as sharing tapas with my peers or navigating the winding streets of the old town, taught me lessons in adaptability, communication, and cultural sensitivity. The fellowship was also an incredible networking opportunity, as I connected with other ambitious students who shared my passion for law. Together, we engaged in thoughtful discussions after firm visits, reflecting on what we learned and challenging each other to think critically about our future goals. These conversations often extended late into the night, creating bonds of friendship and collaboration that will last well beyond the program. Perhaps the most transformative part of the Lex Fellowship was the personal confidence I gained. Before traveling, I was unsure about whether I truly wanted to pursue law, but being in Valencia and witnessing firsthand the impact of lawyers in an international context confirmed my passion for the field. The fellowship gave me a clearer vision of the possibilities that lie ahead and reminded me that the pursuit of law is not only about studying cases and statutes but also about understanding people, cultures, and perspectives across the globe. Living and learning in a foreign country challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, and I discovered a resilience and adaptability in myself that I will carry into law school and my career. In the end, my Lex Fellowship in Valencia was more than just an academic program. It was a transformative experience that expanded my worldview, deepened my passion for law, and instilled in me both cultural appreciation and professional ambition. I returned home not only with memories of a beautiful city but also with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for the future.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
It was a little disorganized with the payment plans.

Lex Program- Genoa Rotation

During my time in Genova, I had the privilege of meeting with distinguished lawyers and reputable law firms that specialized in fields from criminal defense to transportation to maritime!
One of the most impactful aspects of this internship was the chance to engage with legal professionals who shared their real-world experiences and offered guidance on navigating the legal landscape. Their mentorship and advice have been instrumental in shaping my aspirations and career goals. On another note, I was able to meet with a Solicitor and a Solicitor Apprentice who were traveling all the way from Greater London, England, due to the friendly and accepting ambiance of Genova!

Perfect Blend of Insight and Fun

This pre-law trip was amazing because it struck the perfect balance between learning and exploring the city of Valencia. I had so much fun and learned a lot when meeting legal professionals, gaining insight into the field, and diving deeper into what a legal career looks like. Plus, we got to see so many of the city’s best sights and enjoy its culture. The program managers were great and very helpful. The combination of hands-on learning and free time made it both educational and enjoyable—an unforgettable experience that left me even more excited about pursuing law.

Lex Fellowship, Milan

It was extremely educational in terms of law firm and practice area exposure, as we visited 10 different prestigious Italian law firms. This also is great for boosting skills for law school, as you mainly do oral debates. It was great for networking, and the legal training sessions were extremely helpful. But, I recommend this for students who have not taken an LSAT, as they discuss it, and those who are not too young, as this is an intensive and more independent oversees experience. My city managers were a wonderful resource, though, and if you are younger and feel confident this is right for you, go for it!!

Good experience

Learned a lot about law, was a very fulfilling and fun experience that was well worth the cost in my opinion. Was a great way for me to figure out whether I want to pursue law in the future or not, and the legal advisor was very helpful with providing information as well as his contact in case we need to reach out to him for anything at all in the future regarding law school or our applications.

Other than that, the food we ate and the restaurants that we went to were amazing, although the accommodations were extremely terrible, the program is a little bit costly in general, and there weren't enough excursions or lunches provided.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
ask as many questions as you can.
Pros
  • Fun
  • Fulfilling
  • Memorable
Cons
  • Not enough excursions
  • Accommodation rooms were terrible
  • Too expensive

We learned how to navigate unfamiliar cities with their public transportation and by traveling on foot. Our legal studies lessons were informative and fun, exposing and challenging us to new areas of law and experiences. We were encouraged to learn and grow.

Unique Legal Experience Abroad

The Lex Fellowship Program was a unique legal experience that gave me a great life perspective in terms of my career choice as well as my dreams of traveling the world. The legal experience was such an amazing experience because we were exposed to a variety of areas of law by visiting law firms, interacting and connecting with lawyers, as well as working on cases and breaking them down. I was able to focus on specific areas of corporate law, specifically in Mergers and Acquisitions, that I would like to explore as a future career. The cultural experience was amazing. My passion for soccer grew after witnessing the Spanish National Team winning the Euro Cup in Germany. It will forever be a moment I cherish as a great life experience to have been able to take part in Europe's passion for the Beautiful Game.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. In Europe, it is their passion. It is also my passion. I was able to witness the Spain National Team win the Euro Cup this summer during my time in Madrid. I was amazed at the crowds of people at the park joining together to root for their national team and eventually celebrate together with strangers after winning the game against England. I was surprised to see such a big gathering in the public park to watch the game.
Pros
  • Soccer passion
  • Tasty Food
Cons
  • It was a bit inconvenient to have to travel by subway the whole time
