Level 5 TEFL

I have taken the Level 5 TEFL online course at the TEFL academy based in Dublin, Ireland and I have found it very straightforward and well organised. I have not had any problem whatsoever throughout the course. The contents are all relevant and clearly presented. It is a challenging course and one gets the impression it is "serious" right away, and not light or overly simplistic. To me this is very positive, considering the amount of TEFL providers online. For me it was important to sign up for the TEFL course with an accredited institution that could offer professional training and I was extremely relieved I chose the TEFL academy as soon as I began the lessons.

What would you improve about this program?
It would be interesting to see more information about the reality of teaching English across the world. What are the conditions to be found in each country?

My TEFL learning experience

Studying online with the TEFL Academy was at times definitely a challenge. However I found the lessons thought provoking and engaging. Because I am a native English speaker I can naturally apply proper English grammar. The challenge comes when teaching these rules to others. The TEFL Academy gave me some good guidelines for explaining some difficult concepts. For example when planning a lesson, there is a need for careful preparation. I learnt that it's important to research any new language that I would teach. learning through the TEFL Academy has also given me some good ideas for planning a lesson and for finding suitable activities to help the students learn.

What would you improve about this program?
Overall, academically this course is impressive. It covers all the learning areas that a teacher would need to know for teaching EFL students. The only thing that I would change is the time limit. The units are easy to work through, the challenge comes when completing assignments. The assignments took a lot longer than I anticipated. It would be nice also to send an email a month before the cutoff time of the course, to warn and remind the student, that they have limited time to complete all assignments.

Online Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs) Review

The Online Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs) was super fun to take. I loved the structure of the course, the platform was easy to navigate and the information was endless (in a good way) - covering all the questions I had. The assignments were the "though" part of the course. You have to combine a set of techniques taught through the course to successfully complete them, but don't worry by then you are well prepared, they just take a bit more time. I enjoyed all the examples that were given and the interactive exercises that help you check your understanding. The support team was very quick and thorough in replying to my inquiries.
If you are wondering whether to take the course or not, this is your sign! Don't put it off any further.

What would you improve about this program?
Maybe including an assignment where we'd have to teach an online class. That would give some practice and make it slightly more realistic.

My experience

My experience with tefl has been great. I learned a lot of new things and i found the course easy enough. It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to work overseas or teach online.

The staff was also very very helpful. And they solved my problems quickly and they were very friendly.

The assignments were easy to understand and I always knew what to do. I also got my marks back quickly and the feedback was very helpfu. Its stressful to wait for the marks but when you pass its the greatest feeling.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most stressful thing is doing the assignments and waiting for the marks to come back.
Its also very nerve wrecking when you have to redo an assignment

Excellent course!

This course was far more in depth than I expected making me more than prepared to start teaching English as a foreign language. I am so confident in the skills I have learnt. The course is easy to navigate through and I found the content very interesting. At the end of the course, I was provided with suggestions about how and where to find a job, as well as tips for how to write up a CV and cover letter which have been incredibly helpful. I will definitely take some short, specialized courses with The TEFL Academy in the future.

What would you improve about this program?
It would have been helpful to have received a reminder of the time remaining in which to do the course halfway through, not only with one month left.

A thorough course

The level 5 160 hour course is one of the most thorough, detailed online courses I have ever done. The individual units are easy to navigate around, and the interactive element ensures learning has sunk in. The three assignments are quite daunting at first, however the instructions & example templates you download, are helpful.
Some of the units are more detailed than others, however doing your own further reading & research is recommended & helps with understanding.
I would recommend this course!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do your own individual research/ further reading to ensure you have a decent grasp on all of the units.

Combined Review Level 5 TEFL South Africa

I had great fun in the practical component of the course held over a weekend in January. Additionally, the online course opened my eyes to pathways. It provided a great foundation for learning, with a vast knowledge base to take advantage for future research. I quite enjoyed the extra resources provided, ranging from youtube videos on classroom behaviour to language acquisition techniques. It also provided a great refresh on my own grammar knowledge, which I found extremely useful. All in all, it was a fantastic experience.

What would you improve about this program?
The servers might need to be improved upon in size, since there were occasions that it dropped my connection. Could also have been my laptop so I'm not sure.

TEFL rocks!

I recently completed the Level 5 TEFL 168 hour course - I loved the experience. There was a good balance between theory and application both in the course content and the assignments. I am a qualified teacher but this course still challenged me especially on the lesson planning side and in ways of creatively achieving learning objectives. The course was well-supported by TEFL and I felt confident studying remotely. I have signed up for the Business English module and look forward to completing that soon, too!

What would you improve about this program?
When I had a query and used the facility online it was rather cumbersome and took ages to get an answer … this could be improved

A good course!

This was a professional and well organized course that was both informative and useful. I had a thoroughly good experience. The course meticulously works through all that you need to know to teach both online or overseas and provides a certificate that is respected. The certificate is, honestly, a requirement if you wish to get a decent job - any job that does not require this, or an equivalent, certificate is most likely a scam and I advise caution.

It is also quite affordable as long as you wait for a special!

What would you improve about this program?
This program did exactly what it set out to - I would not improve anything.

Combined level 5 Tefl Course in South Africa.

I am really happy I have completed the Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs). I am also happy I chose to do the combined option. I enjoyed the interaction with people of all ages, cultures and experience over the face-to-face week-end. I chose to do the face-to face week-end before I had even started with the first Unit, which gave me a good overall idea of what I was going to study. Having finished high school almost 40 years ago, I initially found the online component quite challenging. However, I soon learnt to navigate my way through all the technology and work through the different units with easy as the setting out and structure of each unit was well laid out. I also really enjoyed the activities given within the units and found the course material to be very interesting. The assignments were challenging for me but I really learnt so much whilst doing them. It is never too late to challenge yourself in learning new skills. I would recommend and encourage anyone interested in teaching English to foreign students to enroll with TEFL Academy. Thank you TEFL Academy for the great experience.
