Moving abroad can be a daunting experience, The Fewer Things will make the process smooth and stress-free. The Fewer Things are very knowledgable and always willing to help. You are guided every step of the way from the application process to settling in once you arrive. The Fewer Things have also continued to show their support by checking in post-arrival.

My time in Vietnam has been amazing so far and I couldn’t have had a smoother transition thanks to The Fewer Things!

The support you receive from The Fewer Things is unmatched. I highly recommend starting your next adventure with them.

Great experience

Excellent experience with The Fewer Things. Coordinators are friendly, professional and offer great support both before and after the placement. The education company that TFT are partnered with are also top quality. It’s a good salary, decent resources/professional support and the city is lovely and fun. The teacher group sent out by TFT are great people and thanks to TFT’s stellar communication it was easy to get off on the right foot. Really enjoying my placement so far and can’t see that changing any time soon. Would highly recommend this program if you’re interested in teaching/travel abroad.

Pros
  • Smooth transition into job placement
  • Expectations managed very well
  • Good salary and living/working conditions
Cons
  • A few teething issues with the education partner due to the country opening up after covid but nothing major

Teaching in Vietnam

I have been teaching in Vietnam for a month now and I am really enjoying the experience. It’s a great option for anyone looking for a more adventurous job opportunity to live and work in Vietnam. Jaemi from The Fewer Things is extremely nice and helpful throughout the entire process, and they will walk you through it step by step. They create a group chat of people in the same program so by the time you make it to Vietnam you already have friends to meet up with. I highly recommend this program!

Pros
  • Living and working in another country
  • Great support from The Fewer Things staff
  • Group chat of other people in the same program
Cons
  • Didn’t realize we wouldn’t get paid until a couple months after arriving

Great Experience in Thailand

I had a wonderful time on the Thailand graduate programme with TFT. I was placed in a medium size town in northern Thailand and really got to experience Thai culture and see a whole different side to the world compared to what I was used to! I managed to travel quite a lot on weekends, school holidays and during the big semester break. The teaching was really fun and as someone who had no experience at all I felt fully supported the whole time by the coordinators and local teachers.

I would recommend this programme to anyone who would like support and guidance in getting to Thailand!

Pros
  • Travel time
  • Amazing local teachers
  • The friends I made
Cons
  • None

Great for getting out of your comfort zone!

I couldn’t recommend The Fewer Things more, everything was was so straightforward leading up to the first day of teaching, they help with your Visa, accommodation, bank account, etc.

For a first time teaching experience in Thailand 2021, I enjoyed it so much that I’m using TFT to teach this year in their Vietnam programme!

The actual teaching is very fun, all resources and material is provided for you so you have always have a lesson plan. There’s still space to get creative and go off piste, which the students will always appreciate.

I enjoyed it so much the first time, I’m going back for more!

Teaching in Bangkok!!

Jaemie and TFT made the whole process before moving to Thailand less daunting, giving you regular updates, reminders and help whenever needed. For me, I've been having an amazing experience and Jaemi has helped throughout. It's been nice knowing he's been only a message away whilst I've been in Thailand.

Thailand has many holidays and long weekends, making travelling around the country and even outside easy to do. The people are so friendly, the school has been really welcoming and teaching has been really fun. Being so close to Bangkok has also made travelling at the weekends very easy. We were able to visit Malaysia on a long weekend with no trouble.

Of course, moving can be stressful at times. Even when being placed in the Bangkok suburbs, this experience does show you the less touristy side of Thailand. Once you get past the culture shock and make friends you'll have an amazing time and won't regret moving here.

Overall, I've had a great time in Thailand so far and would recommend this to anyone who wants to get out and explore, seeing a different side to Thailand.

Pros
  • Getting to experience a different side to Thailand
  • Being so close to Bangkok making travelling easy
Cons
  • The extra work of MediaKids and having to report to them
  • Accommodation is extremely basic - no fridge, solid bed, expensive AC.

Great Program and Experience!

Going abroad on your own can be a daunting experience, but The Fewer Things helped me feel supported and prepared to take on this new experience from day one. From visa help to getting you into group chats with fellow teachers going abroad, the fewer things really guide you along before arriving and even once you are placed if needed. They were always quick to answer questions, as well as honest and encouraging. I was placed at an elementary school in the city of Chaiyaphum and I can genuinely say that I have had the best experience and love the community and friends I have made here. If you want to have a smooth transition and put your mind at ease about choosing the right program to go teach abroad with, I would definitely recommend The Fewer Things.

Pros
  • Assistance with visa and pre-departure documents
  • Group chat with fellow teachers going abroad
  • Accomodation and banking account assistance
Cons
  • Limited materials at school depending on placement

excellent program

The Fewer Things is a great program that did everything one could ask in getting me to Thailand. I had no clue in where to begin and they walked me through every step that I needed and kept in contact throughout the process to make sure that I understood what I needed to do and what documents I needed to send at what time. If I had a question Jaemie was always quick to answer. My time in Thailand has been fantastic and I am pleased with my placement. It is a rural area but I do appreciate the more genuine Thailand experience that it provides. Even after I have been here they regularly ask me how things are going and that is appreciated. The school I am at has been very accommodating and has always been so nice to me. The accommodation is a little bare bones with a pretty hard bed but I do not mind it too much. Overall the value that The Fewer Things offers you is really good and if you have no idea where to begin with TEFL they offer you a great service that is definitely worth it.

Pros
  • great service that walks you through step by step
  • groupchat that lets you meet the other teachers
  • good support after you arrive
Cons
  • accommodation a little barebones
  • rural area if you are not into that

Maha Sarakham Experience

I have loved being placed in Maha Sarakham. It's a really quiet city, while also having a nice variety of places to eat and a good night life. My chief complaint would be about having to go through MediaKids to get to this school. I would prefer to have been hired directly by the school for a number of reasons. Mainly, MediaKids requires us to do separate grades, lesson plans, and attendance for them to be turned in at illogical times within our schedule. Jaemi was great to work with, and has been excellent to me. Having to go through MediaKids instead of getting to work directly for the school has been an unnecessary amount of stress and extra work.

Pros
  • Night Life
  • Support from other teachers and school.
Cons
  • Work load from MediaKids
Response from The Fewer Things

Hey Trevor,

Thanks for such a great review and glad you're enjoying your time in Maha Sarakham; I just wanted to clear something up here for future readers - it would be physically impossible for you to work with your school directly because they would not have the infrastructure or resources to be able to accommodate a foreign teacher on their own, they rely on MediaKids to create the English curriculum and to make sure the teachers who are working at the school are providing high quality lessons to the students. This is also why TFT take care of the whole departure process on behalf of the school as they just would not have the resources to do such a thing.

The extra work you talk of is something the school director and education board of that particular region has requested and agreed with TFT & MediaKids to be implemented in day to teaching.

Looking forward to following your journey more Trevor!

Best wishes
