TEFL in China 2021

I decided to come to China in September of 2020 with the intention to come out in August 2021, and I made it out in September 2021. It was a year of hard work and lots of planning, especially with COVID-19 making the journey to China incredibly difficult. However, I can confidently say that without TFT I would have never made it here. It is almost impossible to navigate by yourself, and TFT provides all the support you really need to get yourself out here. I have now been living in Shanghai for almost a month which seems crazy! The time has flown. There is so much to see and do, and my list of places to visit only increases every day. My kindergarten is great. Although I am the only foreign teacher working there, they have made me feel welcome and the kids make sure to give me cuddles every day. The weekends are the time to see new things and travel around, and I am planning on doing just that. I feel I am at just the beginning of an amazing year. Thanks Jaemi! Can't wait to start my adventure.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Stay open-minded. It's probably not going to go how you expect it to, especially after you think you've planned everything meticulously. Just embrace it all and it will work out!

The Fewer Things: Shanghai

It's a super difficult time to move to China and the process is quite overwhelming, if you don't have the right help. The Fewer Things was amazing! I'm so glad I found them and was able to go through them. Jaemi was super helpful and kind every step of the way. He was very patient and kind with all of my questions. The Fewer Things are well-connected, professional, and so helpful! I highly recommend The Fewer Things to all looking to live and teach in China! Especially now. In such a hard time to move abroad, The Fewer Things is the best program to go with.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
There's actually nothing I would change. I would go back over and do it again. 10/10 experience.

The Fewer Things - China

It's super hard to get into China during the pandemic but Jaemi at The Fewer Things helped make it possible and has provided support the whole way through. Although things have not always panned out as expected due to changing regulations in China, it has been 100% worth it and so glad I went with The Fewer Things to make it possible. Jaemi still checks in even now we're settled and in the full swing of China life. And if you're worried about having no teaching experience, neither do I! It's very easy going and you soon find your feet with teaching English

TFT - Thailand Programme

The Fewer Things gave me phenomenal support throughout the job placement period during the pandemic. Even during covid, this agency have been very accommodating in finding me a suitable location based on my preferences. Jaemi will work with you to find and check the visa application, quarantine, flights and insurance to ensure a smooth transition to Thailand. The experience so far has been amazing, it is such a blessing to teach and guide Thai students in such a beautiful part of the world. The Thai people are very kind, relaxed and happy people and I am so glad I made the decision to work as an English teacher overseas

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
A smile goes a very long way in Thailand. If you don’t understand what some people are saying or how to communicate, just smile and try your best. The Thai people are very friendly and will appreciate the fact you tried to even speak Thai! AC is a life saver out here too

Every day was completely different!

I flew out to teach in Thailand in the midst of the pandemic, and I'm so so glad I did. I was looking for an experience that would excite me and push me out of my comfort zone and teaching in Thailand definitely ticked both of those boxes! The teaching was super chill and fun, and every day really was completely different so it was never boring. I've met wonderful people from all over the world whilst teaching here and had so many new experiences, from living in a rural Thai village to swimming in waterfalls and hiking to hidden beaches. I would urge anyone to think about coming to live and teach abroad and I couldn't have chosen a better company to go with. The Fewer Things have been fantastic every step of the way, I came out here with my boyfriend and they were really accommodating to us as a couple. They were really helpful in organising so we could go out together, and found a placement for the two of us in the same school, so they are brilliant whether you want to travel solo or with a partner/friend. Jaemi has been great and has checked in on us regularly whilst in Thailand, he goes above and beyond to ensure your move to living and teaching in Thailand is smooth and stress free, I can't recommend the fewer things enough.
If you're thinking of coming out here, definitely do it!

What was your funniest moment?
When we saw the locals riding down the river rapids on rubber rings in our little village one weekend and thought it looked fun so we joined in. We were fully clothed, and got absolutely drenched and we did come away with a few little scrapes but it was definitely worth it and embarrassing but pretty funny slipping and falling in the currents and having to be helped up by the local kids who were half my size!

Moving to Thailand During Covid

After being stuck in England during a pandemic and being furloughed, I was looking for a new adventure and came across The Fewer Things (TFT). TFT were so helpful throughout the process of getting out here, taking me step-by-step all the documents and processes I need to completed to get to Thailand. They created group chats with other teachers who were coming out here so we could get to know each other and to provide information and guidance regarding things we needed to do. Overall, TFT were, and continue to be, extremely helpful throughout and are always available if you have questions or concerned. I can't recommend them highly enough!

Getting to Thailand during covid

I decided to apply for The Fewer things in December 2020 and arrived in Thailand just a few weeks ago. The Fewer Things were there every step of the way! Preparing beforehand (and all the extra paperwork due to covid), during travel and once here. Can’t thank them enough for the endless support. The tefl qualification was easy to follow through online and feel prepared ready to teach for my first day this coming week in Prachinburi (the most friendly town!). I had the opportunity to speak to other teachers before travelling via WhatsApp and made friends who were experiencing the same things, alongside helping each other out. I highly recommend The Fewer Things to anyone who wants to have a fantastic tefl experience.

The best support every step of the way

The Fewer Things (TFT) has undoubtedly given me the opportunity of a lifetime. As a graduate of Law this opportunity excited me as I wanted to be able to explore and immerse myself in a different culture before I had to settle down to the usual 9-5 job. TFT has been incredibly supportive and been in constant contact with me since I first applied at least 9 months ago! In particular, their help became essential when went into a global pandemic, but I was reassured of ever step I had to take and they were there to reply to any queries I had within hours. I am now teaching in a school in Thailand and my colleagues could not be any nicer! The lifestyle here is such a change, but a blessing to me. TFT has really allowed me to appreciate the fewer things in life and has provided me with an unforgettable experience!

Nearly finished my first week!

I am writing this review on my first Thursday at the school. I travelled with my girlfriend to a school in the north-eastern Thailand and it has been everything we expected and more. TheFewerThings have been really helpful to us every step of the way and helped make all the admin much easier!

Support from Jaemi was always available, from initial interview throughout the travelling and in school, and the 2-week quarantine feels like a lifetime ago. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone thinking about travelling or teaching abroad!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take plenty of pictures! Thai people are always at it so you may as well join in too.

Getting to Thailand During COVID

2020 has been the year to redefine 'normal' for everyone. I was meant to be starting grad school this fall, but due to COVID, elected to defer. Deferring, however, did not mean I wanted to continue working at the same boring job I'd been at, so I set out to find something different, and that's when I stumbled across TFT. Teaching abroad sounded exactly like something I'd love to do and is a fantastic way to round out an otherwise rather awful year. TFT spoke to me more than other programs because it was so small and seemed more personal, and it's hard to beat the cost of the TEFL course you get going through this program!

I managed to sneak in and get one of the last available spots in the program. Jaemi was incredibly responsive as I applied to TFT (reached out within days of having submitted my application), worked with me through the application process, and then worked with me through the visa process that has changed due to COVID. Any questions I had that Jaemi didn't know the immediate answer to, he helped me navigate or found the answer another way. The biggest struggle for me personally was trying to schedule a COVID test that would get me results 72 hours prior to travel (as is now required to fly to Thailand). I'm not from an area with an international airport, so I was worried that the extra travel needed to get to that airport would cut my 72 hour travel window too close, and Jaemi suggested heading to the city I'd fly internationally from a few days early to get tested there. This greatly reduced my stress during the process, and now I'm a week into mandatory quarantine in Thailand!

There's also a group chat for TFT teachers all going to Thailand, and this allowed me to meet and chat with fellow teachers prior to arrival and during the quarantine process. This was also great as you have others you can chat with going through the same things as you, so you can share ideas for how to get through each application checkpoint, what to pack, etc. TFT and Jaemi have continued to check in while here, and I look forward to finally getting out to teach. Could not recommend TFT enough!
