An reliable way in to China

When I decided to think about my next destination in teaching, I was a bit reluctant and nervous about contacting Teach English Global. It was nothing personal, I knew I wanted to try out China but had heard some horror stories regarding recruiters and agencies in China. Also being on the outside, it's hard to find legitimate jobs IN China. However, I found Teach English Global on the same website where I got my TEFL qualification. And it was listed as a partner with my accreditation and two other big-name accreditations in the industry. So I thought it must be reliable.

Talking to Dan I was able to have an honest conversation about my current situation, what I was looking for and what I was not looking for. He made the process very simple and easy - which I've learned about China - is not easy. I was initially taken back by his suggestion about an agency, just because of what I've heard about agencies online and knowing they are on the lower end salary-wise in the industry in China. But I went for it anyway, taking the opportunity instead of wondering what if. And the interview went well, I got positive vibes from the agency. Which was important as I wanted a positive experience to come out of it.

Dan and the agency were very accommodating with my situation as I was in a toxic work environment that led me to quit my job and go home instead of finishing my contract and then possibly moving on to this one. Then when I went home a family member had just passed away which left me questioning whether now was the right time - even if the job wouldn't start for another few months.

The process was easy, Dan and the agency rep would help with the process. Dan with making sure your documents are legalised. The agency with the actual process for the visa. Then in the weeks with the agency prepared me for interviews online with schools.

I'm now within my first few weeks in China - am yet to start the job due to the Spring Festival. And so far have been overwhelmed by the support the agency has given in terms of getting you started in China - stuff that would've been challenging on my own. Any issues I've faced have nothing to do with the agency itself but with how things work in China and the period being before the holidays. This element can be complicated and something that no one can prepare you for.

My only feedback regarding the placement of the agency was that my moving date was asked to be moved earlier last minute (to do with schools), I was originally meant to arrive after the Spring Festival, and this left things a bit harder in getting set up because it was just before the holiday and I had to get a lot ready in a short time before flying out. Also some things talked about in the interview like training - I wasn't provided and other teachers were - however, this could be because I had some experience compared to others so it was a low priority for them with me. The important thing is coming into China the support is there.

I would say overall, Dan is a decent recruiter to go with if you are outside of China and looking for a reliable job in China but can't find anything yourself. I don't know what other kinds of jobs he offers - if they are just agencies or not. But at least the agencies seem trustworthy so far. And he and whoever you end up with will try to simplify the process as much as possible.

Pros
  • Dan is honest and presents reliable and trustworthy options for you
  • He will let you contact other teachers for their experience
  • Can be accommodating about special circumstances
Cons
  • If salary is your main motivation, you probably could find better on your own.
  • Your starting date could be pushed earlier last minute, this is not to do with Dan though.

Highly recommend

Highly recommend! The daunting process of moving abroad was made to seem easy and stress-free!

Teach English Global advised me on what kind of school would best suit my level of experience and put me in contact with a reputable teaching agency very quickly.

Regular contact with Dan, the founder, meant that I knew what to expect at every turn during the process and he gave great advice from a place of knowledge and experience.

Everything from interviews to the Visa application was made to seem simple and the process altogether seamless.

Excellent organization and staff

My experience with this organization was with Dan. He was helpful throughout the entire process, offering very helpful guidance from the start. He was available whenever I needed questiosn and provided reassurance if any difficulties arose in the process. Overall, the employees make the difference in a company and I found that the experience was made excellent by the interactions with Dan. The people that I was introduced to through this organizational were equally as helpful and friendly. The entire process of going overseas, despite being a big change, was made very comfortable and clear.

Moving to China

My recruiter Dan was very helpful in helping me get my work visa and explaining each step towards working in China. He was legit and mad everything to understand. I haven't moved to China yet but they helped set up my interview and get hired by a school in Shenzen and helped with the work visa which I was all able to get in like the span of 2 months. The recruitment staff was also very helpful in guiding me towards a successful interview and helping me get the job. I was able to get the salary I wanted and they also answered questions I had about what I would need to live in China.

Finding a job

I had just left my previous job and was searching for a job that suited my desire for flexibility. After 3 months of searching and nothing to show for it, when Dan messaged me with a potential school.

I did a few interviews and asked a lot of questions, everyone involved was very helpful in providing answers.

I feel fortunate to have gotten Dan's contact, he is very easy to talk to and would message and schedule calls to track the progress of my application. I believe he provided valuable insight into the world of teaching abroad since he started as one and can understand the experiences and struggles that one may face.

What was your funniest moment?
One of the documents needed for the application is a medical checkup. While I was doing my medical exam, they asked for a urine sample. I didn’t have to pee, so I got a cup and drained one third of their water cooler before I had to pee. By the time I had to go, I was the last one there and they were excited to see me leave.
Pros
  • Meet new people
  • Explore new places
  • Try new types of food/ drinks
Cons
  • Loneliness
  • Homesickness
  • Language barriers

Dan is fantastic

Dan has been a great recruiter. He helped me get a job in China within only a few weeks. He supported me every step of the way, scheduling regular calls to go over anything or ask any questions, sending comprehensive emails to explain the visa process and voice notes to help guide me. I highly recommend Dan’s help if you want to teach abroad. It massively helps having a recruiter who is experienced and qualified from the UK when applying for roles in China as it can otherwise feel overwhelming. Thanks Dan!

If you want to teach in China, go with Teach English Global

If you want to teach in China, this is the place. Dan was thoroughly helpful during the entire process from our first conversation, to getting ready to fly.

I have been looking for a job in China not knowing where to start I saw, should I apply directly, send my CV off hastily hoping for a response, or go to an agency. I came across Teach English Global. After reading many reviews, I felt this was the right starting point for me to hopefully secure a position in China. Dan is an experienced recruiter who has a proven track record of working with numerous schools in China. He made me feel at ease initially asking my preference in location, age group and type of school.

Dan was very helpful in assisting and guiding me through the VISA process which was very surprinsingly very straightforward.

Pros
  • Proven track record recruiting teachers to China
  • Great support network assisting the whole time
  • Polite and friendly
