Dan was very helpful

Dan provided great support in getting me out to China quickly at an inopportune time of the year. He’s provided support when anything has gone wrong while I’m out here and regularly checks up on me to ensure my needs are being met. If you’re looking to teach English and travel, I can’t recommend Dan enough.

Prior to leaving for China, Dan provided a breakdown of documents I would need, how to procure them, and a step-by-step guide on how to attain my visa that would be necessary in China.

Thanks for the help Dan!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
So far, chicken feet! I’ve not been very adventurous as far as the food goes.
Pros
  • Good support
  • Gets you out there quick
  • Provided options as to where I wanted to go

Found First China Job Through Dan

If you were to exclusively listen to internet fora like Reddit, you might be given the demoralising impression that in 2025 it is: impossible to find a job in China without decades of experience; every recruiter in the market is a Grade A scammer; and that you should essentially give up on your ideas. Thankfully, through Dan, I found an exception to this.

When I reached out to Dan through his application form online, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had used seemingly countless agencies, most of which would regularly misspell my name, pressure me into accepting contracts that seemed highly dodgy, and would set me up with interviews that were frankly out of balance with my skill set and/or experience. So, my first conversation with Dan felt like a breath of fresh air. He asked me the usual questions (experience, motivation, intended start date) but seemed to actually try to pair those up with positions that were relevant for me. Within a week, I was having multiple interviews which appeared signficiantly more 'legimitate' than the dozen odd that I had had previously.

The best thing about working with Dan, though, isn't just his eagerness and efficiency in finding you a job: it's the support that comes afterwards. The visa process is, like all visa processes, mind-bogglingly bureacratic and perplexing. Dan talked me through every single step patiently through multiple phone calls, and would act as an efficient intermediary whenever something unfamiliar would appear in our group with the organisation that now employs me. Beyond just the job and the visa, Dan also provided extremely useful tips regarding what to pack, how to get through the intensity of the first few weeks, and even which flights would be the best value for money. Oh, and he helped me prepare for my interviews as well!

Even after getting to China, Dan would regularly check in with me on WeChat to see how things were going. Considering how many teachers Dan has helped through the same process, I frankly have no idea how he has the time to pay such care and attention- but I'm not complaining!

tl;dr: if you're serious about wanting to work in China, but are daunted by the entire process, reach out to Dan and you will have a uniquely smooth experience!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The first job offer that Dan helped me secure was eventually something I decided to opt against for a multitude of reasons. I was expecting Dan to be annoyed and say 'ok cool cheers find another recruiter now' (as had been my previous experience with others). But nope! He immediately said that he understood, and we went straight on to finding something that would be a better fit. I was really impressed with his attitude and conduct in that scenario.
Pros
  • Attention to detail and knowledge of process
  • Friendliness, openness
  • Checking in with you every step of the way

100% Recommend

Great from start to finish, no questions left unanswered and clear, effective communication. No regrets and no complaints!

If you're looking to work in China as an English teacher, this is a great opportunity for you. I was shown what to do through the entire process from booking flights, to visa applications and even a welcome guide to China. Any questions about life, work or travel were answered swiftly and with excellent knowledge on the subject, and any questions relating to the burocratic aspect of travelling were answered too, putting my mind at ease so I could focus on the transition to a new environment. If you're looking to ease your mental burden while making the move to China, this is the place to be!

Beijing

Dan helped me get in touch with a school hiring English teachers in Beijing. He made the process very easy and communicated well with myself and the school. I was able to ask a lot of questions and felt I was getting honest and thoughtful answers. I would recommend Teach English Global when looking for employment. I taught English for the first time, and it was my first time in China. I was given some preparation advice and also Dan has been in the position of teaching English in China before, so I felt I was getting realistic advice.

Professional and Supportive TEFL Placement with Houhai

Dan was extremely helpful in guiding me through the interview process. He maintained consistent communication, prepared me for the interview, and assisted with the visa process. Even after I arrived in Beijing, Dan continued to check in to ensure everything was going smoothly. Houhai (English Program) operates efficiently, and compared to my previous TEFL experiences, their professionalism and speed were refreshing. Within 30 days, I had my Chinese phone number, apartment, visa, and official training completed. While the process was busy, it was well-organized and greatly appreciated.

For future participants, I recommend bringing a functioning laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint, as it is essential for both training and teaching. Additionally, it’s important to budget for startup costs. You’ll need funds for medical exams, apartment essentials, and other initial expenses. While USD 1,000 is a good starting point, bringing more is advisable if possible. Note that Houhai covers the apartment security deposit, but this is a loan that will be deducted from your first paycheck.

Overall, Houhai is a professional and well-organized agency. Once you complete the orientation process, everything becomes much easier.

Teach English Global is very professional and efficient

Dan was very patient with me and answered all my questions. He even had to set up and cancel a couple of interviews for me because I told him that I didn't want to do them and he politely oblidged. I eventually made it to China with his help and the country was even better than I thought. The standard of living is very high even for the poor but you'll get to experience it as a middle income worker. You will not regret working with Dan or having him on your team. I even met another co-worker who also used Dan's help to get to China and she told me how sweet he was with her.

What was your funniest moment?
The most fun part of living in China is telling Chinese people how the USA has a very low standard of living and them not believing me. China doesn't have homeless people because they solved that by housing everyone so they don't understand the concept of 'homeless people' at all.
Pros
  • Safety and technology
  • Culture and history
  • High purchasing power parity. Even the poor can live with dignity.
Cons
  • extreme weather
  • extreme geography
  • very large insects

Exceptional support from start to finish!

I can’t recommend Teach English Global and Dan highly enough! From the very beginning, he guided me through every step of the visa process and all the necessary preparations for my move to China, making what could have been a stressful experience incredibly smooth.

My initial placement turned out to not be suitable for me, however Dan went above and beyond to help me navigate my contract situation and connected me with a new company that was much better suited to my needs. Even after arriving in China, he has stayed in touch regularly, offering ongoing support and advice, which has been invaluable during my first two months here.

If you’re considering teaching in China, definitely reach out to Dan. He genuinely looks out for the people he helps and makes sure they end up in the right place. I honestly don’t know how I would have managed without him!

Pros
  • Expert guidance: Dan made the visa and relocation process simple and stress-free.
  • Ongoing support: Checks in regularly even after arriving in China
  • Goes the extra mile!

Super helpful, looks out for you.

I’m writing this review having been in China for one week, which wouldn’t have happened without Dan. I’m super thankful to Dan, he helped me out every step of the way, introduced me to a recruitment agency in China and walked me through every step of the visa process and just acted like a good pal the entire way through. I wouldn’t be here without him and I appreciate all his help massively. China’s a difficult country to move to, but Dan’s advice made it a million times easier. He’s a great help, I would definitely recommend for any first time teachers.
