This was the perfect course for what I was looking for

Very glad that I signed up for this course - I was in two minds between this one and another one in Spain, but coming to Mexico was incredible and the best decision. There was a lot of things that this course had that I couldn’t find anywhere else - for example the different accommodation options and option to always do things like language exchanges with people from the city that the course can arrange for you. There was always something going on, ways to learn Spanish and more about Mexico, and just having fun with the other students. The accommodation was also very nice and a good place to relax when I needed to.

I would definitely say that Mexico is a great place to learn Spanish - the people were always so friendly and always wanted to help. The locals always seemed so happy and impressed when I was saying things in Spanish... and also I thought the Mexican accent was nice and easy to understand for a beginner like me. I was surprised how quickly I learned Spanish in Mexico especially when I’ve tried to learn Spanish in a few other places and ways before over the years and never learnt it as quickly as I did whilst on Iguana Abroad. I would recommend this course to anybody who wants to experience Mexico and learn Spanish.

I Already Want to Come Back to Mexico!

Mexico has been on my list of places I want to visit for ages and I’m so happy I’ve finally come - it is definitely one of my favorite countries I’ve ever been to (and my favorite in Latin America).

The Iguana Abroad course is such a good way to get to know Mexico - firstly because you’ll need to speak Spanish when you’re in Mexico (at least a little bit at least, to enjoy everything as much as possible), and the course is a really great way to learn quickly. Also the guys who run the course have lived in Mexico for years and are really passionate about the country, its culture, food, nature, etc. They can always answer your questions, show you new places, introduce you to their friends. By the time I left I knew so much about Mexico that I had no idea about, and I will 100% come back really soon!

One of the best courses of my life

Going on courses is basically my addiction and I am always looking for new courses to sign up to. Without a doubt Iguana Abroad has been the best language course I’ve ever been on. It is the first Spanish language course I’ve been on, but not the first ever language course, but I learned more language on this course than on any of the others. By the end lots of the people I was talking with (in Spanish) were saying my level sounded almost fluent - somebody even thought I was Mexican for a moment when they came to ask me a question! I would definitely recommend this course and say again, it is the best language course I’ve ever been on.

A great course for making friends!

I’m so amazingly happy that I signed up for this course. I was only planning on doing classes at first, but I am so glad I did this course in the end. I probably loved the fact that the people who run the course know the area so well and have lots of friends from the area to hang out with, and meet and practice Spanish with. I have so many new friends now from Mexico and other countries, it’s crazy! I would say my Spanish could be better, but I only came for a two week course… if I come again I will definitely do a longer course!

¡Viva Mexico!

Iguana Abroad was exactly the experience I was looking for – authentic Mexico. All the immersion classes were amazing – a Mexican cookery class at a real chef's home, exploring the pyramids with a guide who has been there his whole life, painting Aztec skulls with an artist from the artisan market… the salsa class!!! It was all just genuine Mexico.

The Spanish classes were really good, too. The teachers were excellent and really wanted to help, and the classes were on a really beautiful campus with swimming pools, and loads of little places to sit, study or get some food or a coffee. I felt more confident speaking every day, plus the small class sizes made it easy to participate and ask questions.

The weekend trips were amazing as well – just true Mexico. Beautiful nature, mysterious history, delicious food, lovely sunshine, lots of Spanish and great new friends.

¡Viva Mexico!

A really special Spanish course

Honestly - Iguana Abroad was seriously amazing! I initially signed up with a friend who wasn’t able to join in the end, so I came solo instead, and I’m so happy I did. The group was super friendly and welcoming, I felt like I was friends with everyone just after an afternoon together. It was also such a great experience to explore Mexico while learning Spanish as there were usually Mexican friends with us as well.

Every day was something special and new on the course, either talking more and more Spanish, trying new food, enjoying the sunshine, learning more about Mexico. The location was also perfect for a language course like this - all of the accommodation was a really short walk from the school, and in a really nice neighbourhood where everybody could hang out, explore, it was really safe. I had a great time, fell in love with Mexico - and I’m already making plans to come back!

Come to Iguana Abroad if you want to learn Spanish!

Best choice I’ve ever made for my Spanish learning, which was my main reason for signing up for a month this summer, so that is the first thing I’ll say - if you’re wanting to learn Spanish, on an Iguana Abroad course is the place to be. Outside of the classroom I was practicing Spanish more or less all the time. The two guys who run the course are both English but can always help with improving your Spanish, and they always bring friends and people they know from the area along as well, so you can always practice if you want to. All of the other parts of the course are great for learning Spanish too - on the weekend trips, the cultural events and just living in Mexico for a little while in general. The course seriously helped my confidence to speak Spanish and I can easily have conversations with people just in Spanish now … and I definitely could not do that before I signed up.

The only course with absolutely everything!

Iguana Abroad was the only Spanish program I could find that had absolutely everything, and it was even better than I was expecting (and I was expecting it to be good!!). It wasn’t just about the Spanish classes like on most courses, but the accommodation (homestay or private), the travelling, the cultural events, even getting collected at the airport - and all the other stuff. It was all part of this program and feeling immersed. Also lots of great people on the course, the guys that run the course are amazing, the location where everything is based was beautiful. One of the best summers of my life!

Iguana Abroad Spanish Immersion Program - Mexico

Compared to other Spanish language programs I have done in the US and abroad I would definitely recommend Iguana Abroad. The course is personalized to your level of Spanish and the teachers are amazing which really helps you improve quickly.
1)The classes were perfect for my level and I was able to move up a class to a more advanced class when I improved faster than other people in the lower class
2) Iguana Abroad encourages you to speak Spanish in different social situations very often on the program. This practical side to the course was so helpful for improving my level of Spanish.
3) The Spanish lessons were all with native Spanish speakers
4) The weekend trips were perfect for meeting new people
5) Living in a Spanish speaking country (i.e Mexico) helps SO much when you are learning the language – you have unlimited possibilities to practice day and night which you don’t get in the US.

Aside from the Spanish learning the trip was really fun! I would definitely recommend Iguana Abroad 100% to anyone who is thinking about joining. Making the decision to go abroad may seem scary at first but it’s 100% worth it. You won’t regret it.

Perfect Summer out of the UK

I loved every moment on Iguana Abroad. There were some great travel moments with the group, delicious food, some funny (and sometimes surreal) stories and overall lots of unforgettable memories! Most importantly, we were joined on the trip by some great guys who made the trip extremely special. I also learnt more Spanish than I thought I would in such a short time. The course was structured into morning lessons at the Spanish school (9am to 12am) then in the afternoons there were either social events with the group, or free time to explore the city or practice Spanish with friends. The accommodation was simple but comfortable and well located. The organization of the program was excellent - before we arrived there was always good communication and the trip ran very smoothly.

Pros
  • Good communication and organization of the course
  • Spanish teaching very good
  • Interesting location
