Great mix of learning and fun

Really enjoyed my time at Expanish. I wish I had planned to stay longer. My host family was changed at the last minute and she wasn't expecting me on Sunday when I arrived. I spent the day walking around the park which was lovely. She was very nice, clean, helpful, but far away from everything. I felt a bit isolated. Next time I will stay alone in an apartment closer to the school. I appreciated the fact that there were all ages attending class. If you could improve anything, maybe have a list of interesting things to do outside of the school, whether it's events (ex: Mundo Lingo night) or afternoon excursions.

What was your funniest moment?

Response from Expanish

¡Hola, Beckie! Thank you very much for sharing your experience and your thoughtful feedback. We’re really happy to hear that you enjoyed your time at Expanish and that you appreciated the diversity of ages in the classroom environment.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience you experienced upon arrival with the host family. Unfortunately, your original host had an unexpected personal issue, and while we shared the correct arrival details with the new host, there was a misunderstanding regarding the day of arrival. We’re glad to hear that despite this, your host was kind, helpful, and welcoming during your stay. Regarding the location, the accommodation was within our guaranteed maximum distance of 35 minutes by public transportation, but we completely understand how important proximity and feeling connected can be, and we appreciate you sharing your preference for future stays.

Thank you as well for your suggestions about activities. We do share school activities daily on screens at the school and through our WhatsApp groups, and we also send out recommendations for events and weekend plans during the week. That said, we really like your idea and are already considering adding a dedicated “weekly recommendations” section to make it even easier for students to discover what’s happening around the city.

We truly appreciate your honest feedback and hope we get the chance to welcome you again in the future — perhaps for a longer stay next time! ¡Un fuerte abrazo!

Expanish BA

Welcoming school, friendly and helpful staff, good facilities and well organized activities for participants. Academic and teaching were fine (beginner class). I experienced four different teachers and observed from average to good teaching competency. Opportunity here for improvement and more professional preparation for the classes. Overall its remains a positive experience.

Pros
  • Location
  • Friendly staff
  • Organization
Cons
  • Uneven teaching competency

Family

Truly the staff at the Malaga school is amazing. I was supported and learned so much from them. They are so kind and helpful. I cannot wait until I can go back for more classes. It really does feel like a family and the staff/teachers want to be there. The teachers are very good at what they do. They always have activiteis or games to help make the material more fun. They also have great activites every week to get to know the city and to learn about the culture. I love the variety and it makes it easier to get to know the students in the school.

What was your funniest moment?
In one class we were working on descriptions and we had to draw each other. It turned out to be hilarious.

Great!

The highlight of this program was the professors! Juliana and Sebi really left a positive impact on my life and facilitated a positive language learning experience! Juliana was great at teaching grammar in a way that was easy to understand and Sebi made every class fun with his fantastic sense of humor. I recommend this program to my friends because of them!

Only thing I would change is the freaking AC units. It felt like Aula 10 was cursed because every time we had class there, it was broken and we had to have class while melting away.

Pros
  • Interactive
  • Professors were kind and made learning fun
  • Free activities available every day

¡Hola, Arabella! Thank you so much for your kind words and for highlighting the impact Juliana and Sebi had on your learning experience! We’re thrilled to hear that their teaching style and energy made your classes both fun and effective — we’ll be sure to share your feedback with them.

We also want to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the air conditioning during your time here. Unfortunately, we did go through a couple of weeks last summer when some units — especially in Aula 10 — were giving us trouble. We called in technical support right away, but it took longer than expected to fully resolve. The good news is that the issue has since been fixed, and the classrooms are now comfortably cool (sometimes even a bit too cold!).

Thank you for your understanding and for recommending us to your friends. We really appreciate your feedback and are so glad that, despite the AC hiccup, you left with such a positive overall experience.

¡Un fuerte abrazo!

Wonderful

Angél was a wonderful teacher, he made every class fun, and I learned more in his 3-month class than in the 3 years I had taken Spanish prior. He made jokes with us but also took the program seriously and taught us a lot of good subject matters. I absolutely loved going to Spain, and have realized that I have been able to speak a lot more Spanish than I had prior. I was able to speak to many locals following the program in Spanish and have chosen to speak in Spanish rather than English on multiple occasions.

What was your funniest moment?
Just laughing with my friends when we pronounce words wrong.

Poor customer service

School maybe is nice, but I doubt. I paid for intensive courses, however the situation with Covid-19 has changed, so I have requested refund. They first refused to refund even single dollar, and after they have started to ignore any my request (via phone, WhatsApp, email etc...).,The only thing they advised is to wait in the country, where quarantine has started and where was impossible to find a flat.

However, even refund was requested in advance.

Unfortunately, in this hard times, they were unable to provide you even with minimum sympathy.

Please avoid !

Response from Expanish

¡Hola, Nick! We are sorry that you were not satisfied with the customer service at Expanish. I believe it was related to classes going online during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was the solution to our programming given our study center was forced to shut down temporarily. We would love to have you back at Expanish in the future so get in touch with our team and we can talk about returning post-pandemic to see all the improvements to our programs. ¡Saludos!

Comments

The internet connection was most of the time really bad or not working at all. The classes were a little too big, 6 persons max. would have been better, especially afternoon classes. My highlight were the private classes with Clara which improved my Spanish skills more than 2 weeks of afternoon classes.
Unfortenately was my teacher in the first two weeks not very motivated and seemed really moody....

What would you improve about this program?
Smaller classes. Better internet connection.
