CIEE College Study Abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina

I had the best experience with CIEE Buenos Aires. The staff is amazing, very caring people that want the best for all students. The professors, are amazing as well. They had teaching styles that I wish i had in the United States. I became very close with them. Also my host mom was the most amazing lady I’ve ever met. I would recommend this program to everyone I know. I also experienced the Argentinian culture in a way I didn’t know was possible. Through drinking Yerba mate, taking dance classes, learning to make empanadas, and much more.

In January 2023 I spent 3 weeks in Argentina studying tango (the dance, the music, the history). It was an amazing time! I always looked forward to coming to class because it was engaging, the professor was super passionate about the course, and she cared about the students.
It was an intensive program, sometimes 5 hours of class in a day, sometimes class staring late at night. But I got to see many parts of the city during class trips, I got around to understanding the history of tango and Buenos Aires, and I learned to feel confident dancing tango. (Honestly, best class I've ever taken! And I'm in my last semester of undergrad).
It was really nice to have a small class of just 8 students, we became friends quickly. And it was interesting to live with a host family to be more immersed in the culture. I'll admit not everyone had as great of a host family experience as me but I enjoyed it. I stayed with a host mom and her two daughters aged 8 and 10. When I was home from class we would draw pictures and play games. One day, we went to see my host mom perform in a theater show.
Communication was a bit difficult for those who didn't know any Spanish but they were able to learn some words, they were still able to get around and explore the city well and had a good time. (The tango program is taught in English. If you want to learn Spanish in particular, I would recommend the Spanish intensive program.)

I travelled with CIEE to Argentina as a high schooler. The experience was so great that I fully intended to return to Buenos Aires as a college student for a semester abroad. While researching into their semester programs, I came across the J-Term to study tango abroad. How could I resist?

This study abroad did nothing but encourage me to travel more. I learned so much about the culture of Buenos Aires in relation to tango and relished in the opportunity to explore the city on my own. I reconnected with old friends and made new ones too, and through all of this I learned more about the careers I hope to enter and fields I wish to study. I am literally counting down the days until full semester abroad (only 3/4 of a year to go!).

I loved visiting and learning in Buenos Aires! I loved meeting new people and I got to be able to explore the whole city within the semester. I was able to get an inside look on what tango was and the history of tango. Learning about tango has helped me learn about Argentinian culture as well as the overall history of the culture. I got to explore the culture as well as understand more Spanish! I also was able to learn about famous tango singers and song writers and understand the history of tango and how it became popular.

I had the chance to study abroad in Buenos Aires. It was a really good experience. The staff has been super good. They're very personal, and make sure we feel comfortable at all times. I've had many chances to improve my Spanish. The field trips to places like La Boca and Plaza de Mayo have been great experiences. The Argentine people have been great to me. I really don't have to much to complain about. The best recommendation I have is to bring a friend on the study abroad with you to make sure you don't even feel alone. At 27 years old, I'm one of the older guys in my group while the rest of my group is really young, so it has been harder to make friends for me, so I wish I would have brought a friend with me. Other than that, I recommend this program.

Buenos Aires is beautiful, and it's where I spent most of my time. But it's important to realize how much there is to do in the city and country as a whole. Besides there being so much to see and do on every street, flights are relatively cheap which allowed me to travel to Iguazú Falls and Patagonia, which meant I could see these once-in-a-lifetime locations and become even more immersed in Argentina. Even just staying within the city, there are so many historic buildings, beautiful sights, wonderful food, and things to do to stay constantly busy and impressed with what Buenos Aires has to offer.

Going abroad this summer was a fantastic way of me seeing the world in a different lens.. A unique thing that I was able to learn during this trip was the history of Argentina because my classes would have us visit historical sites and touristic areas of Buenos Aires. Before my trip I was shy and I very nervous going by myself but during this trip I was able to learn a bit more about myself and getting out my comfort zone. I was able to make good connections with various people whom I can keep contact with to build my network. I was able to make memorable memories that I will carry on with me forever and I can share my experience with my friends and family because I want them to see the world that is outside of their's. Adventure the World.

This is a great program for anyone wishing to improve their Spanish! The teachers give individual attention and shape their class and expectations to your level. The classes are not traditional: In addition to the classroom, we met in coffee shops, visited a museum, cooked traditional food in a professor's house, explored a memorial, went to a bar to watch the world cup, and much, much more! This was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend to anyone who's interested to apply!
