Amazing!

This January term program was intensive, and I learned so much in such a short time. It was a fun atmosphere that let me explore Paris! I enjoyed the accessibility of the metro and buses using the pass. I wish CIEE had bought the weeks for us because we paid a lot fo the trip, but I appreciate the program giving us the passes at the start. The housing was convenient, but we were split up among 3 apartments, and I wish we were all in one so we could all make connections! I enjoyed the small class size to get to know friends in class. The experiences in class were amazing and the field studies were impactful

Pros
  • Close to everything
  • restaurant options
  • walking distance
Cons
  • Housing was seperated
  • Housing cleaned irregularly

A amazing experience to get out of your comfort zone and explore France and the history and culture of it. You are able to learn about different types of food and stories of Paris. As well as learning about the metro system and how to navigate public transportation to get just about anywhere. Paris is also great location to be going and coming from different places in europe the transportation is easy going and gets you to where you need to be. Taking weekend trips is also the way to go in order to explore more of Europe.

Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Food
Cons
  • A lot of walking

Paris Block 1 Review

The apartment housing for this program was great. I had one roommate and the space was very big to share. The walking tours with the program every week let you explore the city with a guided tour. The people in the program were very friendly. Time management for class was easy and you still had lots of time explore the city. Class was Monday through Thursday so you were able to go travel places on the weekend. The staff was very friendly and made an effort to check in with students to see how their classes and we’ll bring was going.

Pros
  • Safe
  • Adventure
  • Learning
Cons
  • Immersion in culture

Best College Experience Studying Abroad with CIEE Paris, France

I had few expectations of going abroad for the first time but from the moment I was greeted by the CIEE Paris, France team I knew it was going to be the best 4 months. To begin, the housing was impeccable; it was in proximity to the heart of Paris and a super safe community. Next, the CIEE staff were the most amazing hosts and knowledgeable experts. Having native Parisians travel with us around Paris on impeccable excursions really made the difference in immersing us in the culture and language. Not to mention I made lifelong friends that I got to travel the world with.

Pros
  • Supportive staff
  • Interesting classes
  • Social excursions

Enriching and Enlightening!

Spending New Year's in Paris was the perfect start to the program. The housing arrangements were fabulous, and the academic curriculum was engaging and fascinating. Three weeks is definitely not enough to see this beautiful city, and was the perfect setting for making friends and having unforgettable experiences.

The class itself served to enhance my experience in Paris. The professor was knowledgeable and personable, and the class took place primarily outside the classroom, allowing visual learning.

What would you improve about this program?
The services for non-French speakers. I was one of the few students in my program that spoke French, and I found that many of my classmates were reliant on me to navigate and interact with locals. There were situations involving our housing where the landlady or a plumber came to our apartment and my roommates could not speak with them.

Best Summer Ever

Honestly, this was one of the best things that I have ever done in my life. Studying abroad is a fun experience, and it is something that we should all do. Paris is full of wonderful things, so you will never run out of things to do. The classes are long enough to learn from them, but short enough for you to have free time and explore Paris. You are always safe, but you are also given personal space to do what you want. The home stay is also amazing. We are provided with amazing households with wonderful families. Food is also not a problem. Lunch is provided and dinner is given by your family. However, if you would like to buy a snack during the day or when out, you should have your own money. Be careful with your money. It may seem like you have much, but it can spend away like that.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Me and my roomate ere terrified meeting out host family. But we breathed and tried to relax, and everything turned out to be perfect.

My CIEE Experience

This was my first time abroad and this program exceeded my expectations. The CIEE Paris staff is amazing and friendly. They love to get to know the students, and they are always around for questions. The professors really know their subjects and are always there to help students understand and learn more. Classes are longer than in the United States but not too long considering the classes are only six weeks long. The classes are taught English except for the French language classes. The language professors are patient and understanding but also strict enough that English isn't spoken during class. Most classes have some field trips which definitely help enhance the learning experience. My french history class went to the Pantheon which was really neat. I saw where Voltaire and Pierre and Marie Curie are buried. The study tours for were a big part of my experience because I used to be afraid to travel alone and with the study tour the whole program goes generally. The study tours were an opportunity to learn, and meet people in my program, and create some fun memories, from visiting a soccer stadium in Marseilles, to a chocolate museum in Belgium, to Omaha beach in Normandy. I made some friends that will last a lifetime, learned somethings I will never forget, and became more independent and even stopped being afraid to travel alone. It was overall an awesome experience and I definitely plan on coming back.

I highly recommend CIEE Open Campus Paris

I loved my experience with CIEE Open Campus Paris! Starting from the program staff to the courses to the city, I give this program a 10/10. CIEE itself is super organized and entirely capable of making the entire VISA / paperwork process simple and easy for students to understand. The staff on site are so supportive and kind to us and I've never felt anything but welcoming comfort and kindness, and the professors you will have are fully committed to making sure to provide an academic experience that compliments the short six weeks of your open campus experience well. Paris itself is an incredible city in which you can buddy up with the other American CIEE students, or find a way to venture out entirely on your own.
