Costa Rica

This experience presented itself to me after I brought up that I wanted to study abroad. After I filled out interest forms somebody from the program contacted me and went over the money and the academic program that I would be going through. Since I did the academic program I went to the school during the week. There was security that followed me to and from school. Never did I feel unsafe! This opportunity also gave me the ability to grow athletically and socially, along with my academics. I would 100% do it again! The memories and friends I made will last a lifetime.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve racking moment was meeting my host family for the first time. I overcame it by being myself and using my spanish knowledge to speak to them. My host mom was attempting to learn English so we helped each other.
Pros
  • Traveling while getting school credits.
  • Having access to the gym since I am an athlete.
  • The unique foods, places, and culture of Costa Rica.
Cons
  • Underprepared for class since mine changed a day before my flight. This was due to student population issues.
  • Transportation could’ve been better/ more convenient.
  • I did not buy the phone plan before going and quickly had to purchase it. Should be noted somewhere!!!
