Internship Abroad HQ

My internship at Metropolitan General Hospital in Athens was truly an unforgettable experience. I had the rare opportunity to observe numerous surgeries across various specialties, including cardiovascular, orthopedic, neurological, and plastic surgery. Being able to witness such a wide range of procedures gave me valuable insight into medical practices that I wouldn’t typically have access to in the U.S.

Beyond the hospital, I was able to explore the beautiful country of Greece, meet incredible new friends from around the world, and immerse myself in a different culture. The connections I made—both professionally and personally—were incredibly meaningful, and this experience has greatly expanded my perspective on healthcare and global medicine.

Overall, this internship not only enriched my medical knowledge but also gave me memories and relationships I’ll cherish for a lifetime.

What was your funniest moment?
Meeting new friends building new relationships and traveling greece.
Pros
  • Fun people
  • Good Food
  • Awesome Hospital
Cons
  • Metro Transportation
  • Bugs
  • Heat in summer

Thessaloniki drone internship

Intern Abroad HQ and Circa Abroad did a really good job with coordination and making sure I felt safe. Intern abroad HQ, however, I feel, did not advertise the actual content of the internship very well. I was under the impression that I would mostly be working with your own hardware and learn things about aerodynamics and mechanics, while in actuality, I mostly had experience during this in software-based programs. I would recommend interning in Thessaloniki, because it is a beautiful city, very walkable, and somewhat tight-knit.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I didn't end up getting to the beaches near Thessaloniki, so I kind of regret that, but even so I had a wonderful time.
Pros
  • Increased tech literacy especially with Windows systems
  • The city is very clean
  • There are many archaeological sites that you can explore
Cons
  • Everything with the buses is integrated into Google maps except for the times at which they get to each stop
  • There was not a great deal of communication between our internship supervisors and us for projects we are working on
  • You either had to order online or go into the city for abundant food

GO GREEK! Thessaloniki Experience

I was contacted well before my internship date by my Greek contacts, who spent a lot of time getting me acquainted with where to go and how to get around. The accommodations were cozy, and everything was within walking and bus-riding distance. I had a great time and I learned a lot about the Greek culture. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was due to a bit of confusion as to where I would do observations/shadowing. Papageorgiou Hospital experience was definitely unique. Lunch advice: eat at the hospital cafeteria! The food is AMAZING! (Also, interns and staff get a discount.)

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I didn't see them, but I HEARD the protests about the university students who were involved in the fatal train crash.
Pros
  • Thessaloniki is beautiful.
  • Everything is walkable. People are welcoming.
  • Food is DELICIOUS!
Cons
  • Slightly disorganized at the hospital/internship site.

My Experience Abroad

This opportunity helped me learn more about what I want to contribute in the field of psychology. It also helped me better my team work and communication skills as I had to interact with a lot people, many of which did not speak English as a first language. Learning how to work with people and learning how to understand each other is incredibly important if you plan on working with a diverse population like myself. Open minded and empathetic is also very important. My entire experience allowed me to further instill those beliefs within myself, and the kind of person I want to be.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My most nerve-racking moment had to be when I arrived to my internship site alone. I was so nervous for my first day because I had never done anything like this before. I was embraced by the most welcoming team and program coordinators that I quickly lost all feelings of anxiety.
Pros
  • Responsive program coordinators
  • Helpful coordinators
  • Friendly local team

The best company to use to make your dream internship a reality

I recently completed an internship with Intern Abroad HQ and I cannot recommend this company enough- my trip was an incredible experience which is down to their professionalism and exemplary organisation. I found the company to be extremely helpful, with any questions I had being responded to quickly and efficiently. I felt safe and secure when travelling to my internship location, as I knew that I was able to contact Intern Abroad HQ at any time if I needed. If you are a student looking for an internship to broaden your knowledge of other cultures and to help progress in your desired career, this is the company to use!

Archipelagos - Samos

Living accommodations and food were not great, but the location and the people were amazing. There is no air-con and the bathrooms are quite disgusting. A lot of the time for food you eat mostly bread for every meal of the day. Go into it with a project already in mind, if you do not go in with a project in mind you will spend a lot of time and many days thinking of one and/or sitting around. Always say yes to everything, you will regret not doing things when at the internship, air adds to the entire experience and makes it that much more memorable.

Greece Internship Experience

We had a group of 23 students that went together on a 2 week internship experience in Greece where we worked on a few different projects in the country which was exciting. We also had plenty of time to see the beautiful historical aspects of the area and even go on a short cruise. We had some changes throughout our planning process that were handled wonderfully by the staff at InternHQ. Once we were in Greece the team at Cerca Abroad took over our experience and it was amazing. InternHQ does a great job choosing the in-country companies that they work with.

Pros
  • Many different opprotunities
  • Historic area
  • Safe
Cons
  • Big city

An Experience To Remember!

I went on a six-week internship to Greece with Intern Abroad HQ and was working in Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Conservation Research at the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation. I always had someone to rely on with this company if I had any questions or concerns, and they are very proactive in ensuring their interns get the best out of their experiences. You can tell they've been doing this a very long time and companies like this help take the stress out of finding the right internship for you. I was lucky enough to have Dallas as my point of contact with Intern Abroad HQ and she always went above and beyond to make sure everything was going according to plan and kept in contact before, during and after the internship. Thanks Guys!
