About Program

Rome, Pompeii, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Cinque Terre, and Venice - an Honors College seminar taught on location in the most historic and magical destinations in Italy. Grand Tour Redux is built on the premise that understanding our past enables us to understand ourselves. This interdisciplinary course examines the cultural legacy of classical antiquity and the Renaissance and the influence of these eras on the contemporary world. The seminar reconstructs the traditional 18th century Grans Tour. Students will reflect on the contemporary and personal relevance of Italian culture in the 21st century world.

Fantastic experience

Oct 8, 2014

I spent a month in Italy on this program: 2 weeks in Rome, 5 days in Florence, 5 days in Cinque Terre, and 4 days in Venice. We did all this while living as Italians; no hotels (except in Cinque Terre, where we stay in a mountain sanctuary). We had day trips to Siena, Pisa, Pompeii, Orvieto, and Murano/Burano. We met people and had experiences that there was no way a lone traveler could have done. I had an amazing experience abroad.

What would you improve about this program?
I would love to have spent a bit more time in Venice, but I understand that because it is a very expensive city it would raise the program price.

Italy has long been a bucket list item for people, and it's no wonder with the ancient ruins, astounding scenery, and renowned museums -- all accompanied by the beautiful Italian language. When visiting Italy, be prepared to see big differences in accents and food while moving between regions.
