CEA CAPA Education Abroad in Tokyo, Japan

I absolutely loved being able to find new friends and explore a new place. We were able to learn soo much about the culture and even the language. I feel so grateful to have had this opportunity. The schedule was very flexible, so we were able to go around and see everything we wanted to. The classes were a bit long, but we were given breaks in between. There were so many good food spots just a five-minute walk from the university and a small Korean town. I was so surprised by the diversity and accessibility to eveything.

Japan is such a unique destination that I am glad I chose, everyone at CEA CAPA was so informative and helped me navigate the country when I didn't know anything. Everything from the people to the food and culture truly gave me an amazing time that was worth every top dollar. Since I'm still early in my academic career, I hope I can go on another CEA CAPA program again since it was that amazing. The courses were also very informative with just the right difficulty and found the best balance of fun and education.

I recommend visiting Tokyo at least once in your life! The city feels futuristic yet retro at the same time! The Summer in Tokyo Program allows college students to connect with local students and learn about Japanese culture. If you are looking for adventure, Tokyo is so vast that their is definitely something for everyone! From video game culture, to traditional Japanese culture the city felt alive! Also pushing yourself outside of your normal environment teaches you about what you really are able to do. The only limit is your willingness to explore and try new things!!

Studying in Tokyo was the best decision I have ever made. The room is small but that doesn't really matter because you are only there at the end of the day to shower and sleep. You should be out all day exploring as much as you can because it is such a big city with so many things to do. The commute to class is extremely easy to navigate and that goes for all of the trains all over Tokyo. It takes a couple of uncomfortable days of learning it but it becomes second nature very quickly. I recommend learning some simple Japanese for everyday situations (Not necessary) It will make the locals happy and is a great way to make friends with the Japanese students. They will tell you how great your Japanese is (Nihongo Jyouzu!) and could be used as a good conversation starter. The people are really kind and friendly. On my brothers first day of visiting me we went to go get dinner and unexpectedly a Japanese Uncle started buying us food and some desserts.

This was such an incredible opportunity for me, from the countless in-program friends i have made to the Japanese students who I was able to befriend and learn from. Everything from the city down to the professors was perfect. Being able to experience Japanese culture so thoroughly through expeditions through the program as well as unofficial advice on what to do in Shibuya as well as some great places to eat! The only complaint that I could possibly come up with is my own doing, being the wish that I had more time to spend in Tokyo. Which I suppose I will have to do in the near future.

Completing Sessions 3 and 4 at the JF Oberlin University Shinjuku Campus was an incredible experience and easily one of the best choices I have made. As a Business Information Technology Systems major at Texas Tech University, I was looking for a program that combined strong academics with deep cultural immersion, and this track exceeded my expectations in every way.The courses were highly engaging, rewarding, and beautifully integrated with the city. In Session 3, our Business Topics course on video games, media, and culture provided a fascinating look at how global entertainment industries function. The best part was the immersive fieldwork trips, where our professors took us to analyze market trends live in Akihabara, Tokyo Joypolis, Nakano Broadway, and Ikebukuro. Transitioning into the Japanese society and gender course for Session 4 added wonderful cultural depth, highlighted by an unforgettable class excursion to the Edo-Tokyo Museum in Ryogoku.Even though I had previously spent five months living and studying in Osaka, moving to the vibrant district of Shinjuku was a thrilling transition that accelerated my personal growth. Navigating the morning rush hour and participating in the language buddy system made me feel completely connected to local student life. From our very first orientation day on June 15th, the local coordinators and support staff were fantastic. They were incredibly welcoming, perfectly organized, and went above and beyond to ensure our cohort had a successful, safe, and memorable summer. I highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to experience the best of Tokyo.
