After a lot of consideration and deliberation, I decided to take up teaching abroad after seeing a TravelGrad advert. After speaking with the team and reviewing my options, I decided to settle on teaching in China as it was somewhere I had not been before. The TEFL courses was pretty straight forward, and after talking with a variety of schools to find the one most suitable to me.

As advice for first time travellers to China is e-bikers and scooters are everywhere, if you can ride one then it is very much worth looking into getting one whilst in China as it makes travelling around cities a lot more convenient. I would also advise seeing if in advance you can get as much detail about your job/area as possible. If you know someone in the area or can get a contact, it's always worth reaching out in advance to find what may be best suited for the area.

Going to China has definitely been one of the best decisions I've ever made! I've made amazing friends and travelled to lots of beautiful places inside and outside of the country. Destinations in Asia are easily accessible and cheap, and you can save a lot with accommodation and food usually paid for in schools. People are friendly and helpful, and it's really easy to get around. Travelgrad made the application process super easy and offered support even while I was in China. I'd definitely recommend!

I came to China with TravelGrad, and the experience has been great. From signing on, Andrew and the company assisted me with all of my visa supporting documentation, and so I didn’t have to worry about organising it all myself. Following my orientation in Beijing, Travelgrad placed me at a school in Foshan, Guangdong. My experience here has been excellent. I used Travel Grad back in 2021 during a tough covid time, especially getting into China. Although Travel Grad and Andrew made the experience as easy as it could be. The company were there to help every step of the way and are still there to provide support for us now. It's daunting prospect, I remember. Now even more so with the drastic global changes that happened over the last few years. The distance and paperwork seem endless, especially for those who have never left the familiarity of the E.U.

However, you're at no point left in the dark. Andrew is himself something of an old-hand when it comes to China.
When you arrive, you'll meet and greet cohorts spread around the country from the same program, as well as veterans from previous years. It is very easy to travel and adventure around the country in your spare time thanks to China's speedy infrastructure and having this existing social network makes it twice as practical.

If you're doing it for a year, great. If you're doing it for longer, even better.

Put in the effort to get through the application processes, you will not regret it.
