Make a Lasting Impact with Therapy Volunteers International

I had such an amazing experience with TVI Everything was incredibly well-organized and coordinated, the food was absolutely delicious, the activities were really memorable - the entire experience was just so rewarding. It was perfect to get more ABA experience and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to be part of it and would highly recommend TVI to anyone considering volunteering abroad! I also really appreciated getting to see ABA in a various settings and having the opportunity to collaborate with other professionals like SLP’s and OT’s!

Belize was an adventure! I learned so much about my own therapy style as an SLP: about how I engage and establish a relationship with new clients, how I engage with other clinicians from my own and other specialties, and about how I engage and collaborate with parents to best support their children. This was a unique experience, I learned about the vast, rich, and diverse cultures and languages within Belize. I got to experience providing therapy within schools, consultations, and at the clinic.

I learned so much on this trip and got to spend it with incredible girls! I am a student and got to work hands on with kids in different environments (school and clinic) under the supervision of professionals. I also got to watch how all the girls work and ask lots of questions, which they were always willing to answer. I liked the excursions and felt I got to see and learned a lot about Belize! I would suggest bringing extra clothes after each session to change because I was covered in sweat every day and sat in it for the whole day until we got home. Otherwise I liked the setup of the trip!

I had the most wonderful experience in Belize with my therapy volunteers group. The OT, Mia, was an outstanding clinician and advocate for her clients - and it was a pleasure to be able to work with them! I loved meeting everyone at the Louisiana Government School in Orange Walk & the Stella Maris School. Providing parent consultations and training in these communities is something that I will remember forever. The collaboration of the volunteers & families was a wonderful experience. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity. And Will (the van driver) was amazing and always made us feel safe! A huge thanks to the TEC staff for amazing food as well!

I truly had the best experience! We had a group that was very split BCBA/SLP which made collaboration easy, accessible and successful. I became so close with the girls on my trip & they will be life long friends. The staff at the TEC were so kind and wonderful, answered so many of our questions and were readily available. The food was AMAZING, so much variety. I learned so much being in both the clinic and schools, and it was super interesting to see how it runs over there. Tip: pack more bug spray thank you think you need!

My week-long medical mission trip to Belize was truly an incredible and unforgettable experience. As a pediatric physical therapist, it opened my eyes to just how limited access to pediatric therapy, specialized medical care, and equipment can be for families in other parts of the world. It was both humbling and incredibly rewarding to be able to use my skills to serve children and families who may otherwise have little or no access to these services.

The families we worked with were so welcoming and genuinely grateful for the care we were able to provide. Their appreciation made every interaction meaningful and reinforced for me just how important opportunities like this are—not only for the communities being served, but also for the providers who have the privilege of participating.

From a provider standpoint, the trip was extremely well organized. Housing, meals, transportation, and the logistics of providing care were thoughtfully coordinated, which allowed us to focus our time and energy on serving patients rather than worrying about the details of the trip.

I returned home with a renewed appreciation for the resources we have available to our pediatric patients and an even greater understanding of the tremendous need that exists in other communities. This experience impacted me both personally and professionally, and I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to be a part of it. I would absolutely recommend this experience to other healthcare providers who are looking for a meaningful way to use their skills to make a difference.

After 21 years as a speech-language pathologist, traveling to Belize was an experience that renewed my appreciation for both my profession and the power of human connection. This trip gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in Belizean culture, learn about the country’s history and traditions, and experience the warmth, generosity, and resilience of its people.

Providing therapy services to children and families with limited access to professional resources was both humbling and meaningful. We were able to share practical strategies, collaborate with caregivers, and support children in ways that respected their individual needs, families, and culture. At the same time, the children, families, and local professionals taught me lessons that will continue to influence my work long after returning home.

This experience was about much more than providing therapy. It was about listening, learning, building relationships, and recognizing that meaningful care begins with understanding the people and communities we hope to serve. I returned home with renewed purpose, deep gratitude, and an even stronger commitment to helping make therapy resources more accessible to children and families.

I am an undergrad student, and I had the opportunity to go and volunteer with some amazing clinicians! This program was the perfect balance of fun and exploring with hard work! The schedule was very well formatted. The kids and families that recived services at this clinic are so sweet, and it was amazing to be able to help them during the week. It was an amazing experience to learn about the culture of Belize and get to know some locals. The TEC was a great place to stay, and the food provided was very delicious! I would definitely recommend this trip for undergrad students interested in being an SLP, OT, or PT! But be prepared for some hard work!
