About Program

Global Service Corps (GSC), in partnership with local organizations, offers a unique way to experience Cambodia through its two-week, short-term, long-term, and internship programs.

From 1975-1979, the Khmer Rouge regime, under the leadership of Pol Pot, instituted a reign of destruction genocide in an attempt to build a classless, agrarian society. The Khmer Rouge abolished money, religion and traditional Khmer culture, while purging the country of intellectuals, non-Khmer minorities and other social groups perceived as threats to the regime. It is estimated that nearly two million people lost their lives during the Khmer Rouge reign.

Despite having endured so much trauma, the people of Cambodia have shown remarkable resilience, but Cambodian society still faces struggles in its efforts to both recover and grow. The Community Development and Youth Leadership Training Program aims to help aid a local Cambodian Organization GSC has partnered with whose working to assist communities and develop leadership to bring about much-needed social change.

Volunteers on this program will be part of the movement to build a culture of peace, social justice, and a healthy society in Cambodia and help empower youth to become community leaders and agents of social change.
