About Program

Volunteering in Costa Rica is your opportunity to visit one of Central America's most breathtaking locations. When you volunteer in Costa Rica you get the chance to see exotic wildlife, majestic nature, and interact with the friendly people of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a very popular destination for many people across the globe and there's little doubt as to why. The nation of Costa Rica is filled with mighty volcanoes, plentiful waterfalls, tropical forests, and exotic creatures. From its' inland wonders to its' picturesque beaches, Costa Rica is full of splendor. However, there is still poverty and environmental concerns that make your work as a volunteer ever so important. Volunteer in Costa Rica and find out how you can become a helper in this beautiful land.

Our programs in Costa Rica include childcare, turtle conservation, wildlife conservation, sustainable farming, teaching in schools, healthcare, construction and cleaning.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

NATUWA and You

Volunteering in Costa Rica this past month was honestly one of the greatest experiences I’ve had. As someone who is interested in seeking a career in caring for animals who have been rescued and need rehabilitation, NATUWA has not only been a great way for me to gain insight, but I was able to learn the differences between how sanctuaries/zoological facilities are run outside of the United States. The employees and other volunteers were so helpful and amazing! They were so excited to help us practice our Spanish and were also excited to learn new things in English as well! While living on site, you share a cabin with three other people and typically one fan. All of the water on site is clean, so you are able to drink directly from the faucets without worrying about potentially falling ill. Although the nights were hot, the days work made it all worth it. From preparing the food for the animals to watching them play with the enrichment you’ve created for them, this experience is a 10 out of 10! This has been such an amazing experience and I can’t wait to return to NATUWA. Pura Vida!

What would you improve about this program?
I would improve the safety on site. Myself and my group members generally felt safe, because we were able to lock our cabins when we left, but there are fences next to a road near our cabins that could use some updating.

The greatest time

Volunteering at NATUWA was possibly the greatest experience that I have had volunteering! It was educational, fun, and completely transformational. I was able to take care of beautiful species, to learn about the biology of certain animals, to understand the significance of protecting wildlife, to eat great pure vegan food, and to meet great people while practicing Spanish. The people at NATUWA were kind, helpful, funny, and so passionate about their work and it was amazing to see people respect and love animals and the planet we inhabit so much. In our free time, we were also able to buy from the gift shop on site, go dancing at night, and go to the river with locals. I would definitely go back to Costa Rica, but more specifically NATUWA.

What would you improve about this program?
To lock the gate close to the bedrooms. That’s it

The Experience I will never forget.

My host family was amazing they always made me feel like I was a part of their family. I had my own room and my privacy was always respected. My host mom cooked delicious meals and made sure my clothes were washed. We always had a great talk and laugh especially in the evening! I was also able to practice speaking Spanish with her, which was fun. My host father was very respectful and sweet! I never felt uncomfortable in their home.
My country coordinator was very professional. She made sure my accommodation, placement and project was always smooth and in order. Whenever I faced any problem she was always there to help me.
Volunteering at Coffee Farm was one of the many highlights of my month long trip. My responsibilities included maintaining trails, Planting trees, cleaning streams, Fundraising and finding grants, assisting with the office work. I enjoyed every bit of the program. Wish I had more time to work on the farm. Sometime in the near future, I plan to return to Costa Rica and visit all these wonderful people again.
PURA VIDA!

Thank you for this great opportunity!!

What would you improve about this program?
The volunteer Programme on farm could be improved with more structure during the day so that the volunteer are aware of goals and aims of the project.
