About Program

Ghana is surrounded by French speaking countries which makes the french language very important. This has made the french language a compulsory subject in almost all basic schools in the country. French lessons starts from Kindergarten to the Junior High School.
French volunteers are in urgent need to assist french teachers in the classroom and also to prepare students at the Junior High for their national French exams.
As a volunteer you will help children from the kindergarten to learn alphabet and numbers, identify objects, sing french action songs etc. whilst volunteers teach the basic level students to pronounce, read and write words as well as constructing sentences.
French nationals or speaking volunteers from age 16yrs upwards are qualified for this program. No teaching experience required.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here. Learn more about how SFLIG Volunteers is promoting ethical volunteering.

SFLIG Volunteer Experience as Teacher and Assistant Teacher

For the arrival, the family was on time to pick me up and directly really joyfull about me being here and it was touching.
The orientation before the program start was I think necessary for me. Being aware of the city’s context and how people can react with they see me is important. Know about the money and how to buy staff and bargain too. Also, about the orientation on getting to my placement, a week with a person going with me every day to the orphanage and step by step going alone was perfect. I had time to know the places and how to tell people where I’m going.
As for the accommodation, the room is really nice and the bathroom too. The food was also really well prepared and the host always wanted me to feel comfortable. The proportions were regarding my appetite. The garden is a real plus to the accommodation itself!

To resume, for me during these 3 months everything was great! The fact to have been able to go to 2 different school is great to really see the difference they can have between them, and to get to know more people also. I never felt insecure alone in the streets or in the common transportation. The sanitary pads donation was also a part that I enjoyed so much while doing it! It was really heart touching to speak with those girls and to see how they can be greatfull to you for what you do without knowing you. I didn’t hope anything from this stay but it gave me so much of life knowing that I am really greatfull for going with this organisation to Ghana.

Pros
  • Being helpful
  • Ghana’s citizens being welcoming
  • Cheaper money
Cons
  • Inflation
  • Malaria mosquitoes

Ghana Refugees

My experience with this facility was tremendous, from the staff to the children they take care of. They have a lot of challenges but face them and take care of the children. The love and respect that the children showed has impacted my heart for years to come. The staff was extraordinary in welcoming me to the facility, very awesome place. We brought hygiene supplies which were very badly needed and the girls were so receptive and thankful all of the children that were in class were combined with 2 grade levels due to a lack of space and even as difficult as that sounds they had paid teachers for all levels to accomplish this and they were amazing to bring me in and introduce me and the children were very thankful for me just being there. The love that showed me at all levels was phenomenal and will impact my heart forever.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Come and be a part in the lives of these children so many needs but so few workers they need support in areas of classroom space teaching and many other areas. Come and let your lives be impacted.

Life Changing

Words cannot describe how life changing my experience in Ghana was. The support I received, the warm welcoming, the friendly people, and most importantly, the sweetest kids. Being in Future Stars Organization through SFLIG was the best decision I ever made, so happy with the outcome and how I was able to help them, because they extremely need our help. Hopefully I will be coming back soon!

The best of Ghana

This program surpassed all my expectations!
Amazing place where a few local people are creating magic for almost 100 orphan kids. Working with children is pure pleasure as their desire to study and finding out new things is indescribable. During all my stay, I was taken care by the host family who took care I would always feel safe and satisfied, and showed the most beautiful places in Ghana.
The orphanage is a wonderful program with positive children who are eager to learn and dedicated teachers who know what they are doing. I cannot wait to come back.

What would you improve about this program?
I wish this program would be advertised more so the volunteers visited this place more frequently as it very sincere, rewarding and would never disappoint.
