About Program

Live in community and serve orphans and vulnerable children as a teacher at a newly established English immersion school in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. In this role you will have the opportunity to truly change the trajectory of the lives of children through hard work, commitment and relationships, while developing your leadership skills, resilience and faith. Nine English speaking teachers will be asked to sign a 10-month contract beginning on December 26, 2014 and continuing through the end of October, 2015. Teachers will live together in an apartment near the School of Hope and Fundación Salvación orphanage, and they will receive a $110 a month stipend to pay for food. Each teacher will be assigned to a particular grade (pre-kindergarten through sixth grade) and will be in charge of teaching three classes in English (math, art, & English). In addition to their teaching responsibilities, they will be actively involved serving as Christian mentors and role models to the children.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Looking for a fun, awesome volunteer program abroad?!

Absolutely amazing volunteer program at the School of Hope! Run by the Education for the Children Foundation, the school supports many children from impoverished and underprivileged areas in Guatemala, and you, as a volunteer have the opportunity to make a true impact! The volunteer program is well-organised, fun and supportive of all volunteers and staff. You can experience hands on what it is like to work directly with children, as well as the wonderful city of Antigua on your days off/weekends. Everything can be organised by the Education for the Children Foundation, including accommodation and transport upon your arrival into Antigua. Awesome program, would 100% recommend!!!
