The Dominican Republic is a place of both extreme beauty and extreme need. This area is rich with culture and cuisine, and its music scene is quite lively.
As the population's wealth gap increases, the number of rural and urban communities in need continues to grow. ISL provides medical services to orphanages and clinics in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Teams traveling to these areas are contributing to an ongoing effort of administering health care services to the poor and underserved.
Although a place of great beauty and abundance of natural resources, both countries experience great social needs, as the disparity between the wealthy and the needy continues to grow. Hence, this issue greatly affects the health and quality of life of the vast majority of the population. ISL serves both rural and urban shanty communities near Santo Domingo and areas in the southwestern part of the island, including communities in Haitian territory near the border.
