About Program

All Hands and Hearts provides community-inspired, volunteer-powered disaster relief.

With the frequency and intensity of disasters on the rise around the globe, there's an urgent need for a more thoughtful approach to how we respond and help impacted communities recover. When a disaster strikes, All Hands and Hearts arrives early and stays late to address vulnerable communities' immediate and long-term needs. We work alongside the local leaders and deploy our unique volunteer model to enable direct impact — helping families and communities recover by building safe, resilient schools, homes and other community infrastructure.

Thanks to passionate volunteers, donors and partners, we've provided nearly 20 years of disaster relief support to over 1.3 million people.

Our staff and volunteers continue to respond to recovery needs in Fort Myers, Florida following damage from Hurricane Ian. We are currently repairing homes so that homeowners can feel safe and secure at their residences.

Hurricanes hit quickly, but recovery is slow. Florida was hit on September 28, 2022, by Hurricane Ian, a Category 4 storm. Significant damage occurred in coastal towns and cities, while inland areas experienced life-threatening floods.

Another great experience

I was the better part of a year with this project. I go back with the org to Katrina and Rita response in Biloxi. Always a productive and amazing experience with great people. I've been staff multiple times, a non-profit partner, and a volunteer again on Project Louisiana. The housing facilities in Denham Springs were amazing and extremely welcoming. Reunited with a lot of recurring peoples from past responses and rebuilds, and met a lot of great new peoples too. Good stuffs all around.

All Hands and Hearts

I've been a part of multiple programs, but the combination of work output and overall need in the community puts Puerto Rico at the top of my list in terms of most impactful All Hands' projects. The volunteers are the most genuine people I've ever met, and the staff are both brilliant problem solvers and caring helpers. Time on base reminded me that life is best when its simple, and humanity peaks when people help others without any explanation or reasoning.

All Hands & Hearts Still Doing Recovery In Houston!!!

People still need help in Texas after Hurricane Harvey and AH&H is still there when most organizations have left. AH&H brings a variety of people together to live and work with each other. You create a family with the people you meet and they become life long friends. I have learned so much about myself and the value of community from working with this organization. I highly recommend this organization to anyone seeking adventure and a valuable learning experience. They work all over the world and get there early and stay late.

Sweat, Tears and Smiles

Talk about hard and rewarding work... With years of volunteering, its rare to find a volunteer community as strong and passionate as this one. All Hands and Hearts does an excellent job balancing work completed with an immersive and structured volunteer experience. Program staff make incredible strides to insure the comfort of all the volunteers, so that they can better impact the communities they are assisting.

With skilled leaders at the helm of every site, volunteers can expect to challenge themselves learning basic to advanced construction skills with opportunities to lead and teach others. If you're searching for a way to give back, one of the most valuable things you can give is time. It means the world to the people who need assistance getting back on their feet after a devastating disaster that displaced thousands. Prepare to share tears and smiles with amazing and grateful homeowners and like-minded volunteers.

Give two weeks now, impact someones life forever.

Paradigm Shifting Experience

All Hands and Hearts Volunteers has changed my life. I found All Hands Volunteers last October and volunteered for a while and eventually became staff. The communal environment is good for the soul and the work is something to channel passion into and get the most out of the human experience. I have been part of something larger than myself, helping those most vulnerable, and made life long friends and countless beautiful experiences along the way. I would recommend them to anyone who loves to be around others, really get to know themselves, and do some good work.

What would you improve about this program?
The staff is passionate and there for the right reasons, AHAH can do a better job of retaining staff for long term. Everything else is amazing and I love being part of this beautiful organization.

It felt like home

I never knew a group of strangers from all over the world could make such a huge impact and feel like family. The communal living was great! great food, great accommodations! I was on the Texas project for 5 months. I wish I could have stayed longer.

The staff was amazing and kind, and the work was difficult but rewarding! I would recommend this program to anyone!!! I will be back! There is no doubt about that!

Always a great experience

I've participated on several All Hands projects now, and the reasons I keep coming back are plentiful. AHV is full of amazing people from all over the country and the world, absolutely committed to connecting with those affected by disasters and doing everything they can to get them real help. It's an incredible community, and everyone always loves the time they spend as a part of it.

You don't need to bring any skills or experience, just a commitment to learning and contributing.

Changed my life

I have been helping with disaster relief and recovery on All Hands projects for the past four years. What started out as a three month stint has totally changed the course of my life. Volunteering with All Hands has given me an outlet to help
people through some of the worst moments of their lives, has given me life skills I will have with me forever, helped me grow in ways I never could have imagined and has helped me become part of the best family I have ever known. Everyday, I get to work alongside some of the best people I have ever met. While making a difference and having fun at the same time. How many people can say that?
