About Program

Travelteer implements the Sport Development programme at the grassroots level - our aim being to unlock the potential of disadvantaged children through providing skilled volunteer coaches and funding for equipment and facilities. The programme has been formulated using a pilot programme that has been successfully implemented in several schools around the Trincomalee area. Travelteer aims to build and strengthen this programme by bringing UK University undergraduates across to Sri Lanka - volunteers that can readily communicate their passion for sport to children in the local community.

The programme gives volunteers practical experience so they can design and carry out their own sporting events in underdeveloped nations alongside the Sri Lankan Government. Through the coaching of sports, our projects put an emphasis on inclusivity and skill development to promote health and wellbeing!

A Memorable 2-Week Sports Adventure with Travelteer in Sri Lanka!

My 2-week trip with Travelteer on their Sports Development Volunteering Programme in Sri Lanka was absolutely fab! Making an impact in local schools through sports was a truly rewarding experience.

Playing and teaching kids my favourite sport, football, was the highlight of the trip. The sheer joy and enthusiasm the kids had while learning and playing with us was infectious. Witnessing their progress and smiles made every moment on the field special.

The excitement the kids had when we arrived at their schools was heartwarming. They greeted us with open arms, and their curiosity to learn and engage in sports was a testament to the positive impact of the programme.

One of the most fun-filled experiences was the tag rugby game we had with the local team. The friendly competition and shared laughter created a unique bond between us and the local players. It was a wonderful opportunity to exchange skills, learn from one another, and build lasting connections.

If you're a sports enthusiast looking for a purposeful and fun-filled adventure, Travelteer's programme is an absolute must!

Pros
  • Lots of sports to get involved in
  • competition with local teams
  • met so many amazing people
Cons
  • only a short trip
  • could get a bit warm sometimes

fun and rewarding

I did the sports development program in Sri Lanka a few months ago and all I have to say is it was amazing. The best bit of the trip was the local people, as I was doing the sports program I spent a lot of time with local children and quickly integrated into the Sri Lankan lifestyle and culture which was a surreal experience however the tour they do around the country is absolutely not to be forgotten either. I would also recommend students look into there university's Turing scheme as a lot of people had the trip funded, i did as well.

Pros
  • Sri Lankan food is great (a little on the spicy side but nothing insane)
  • made lots of friends is a very social environment
  • the country it self is green, great beach's and comfortable weather
Cons
  • the sports program has a slightly smaller group than the others however everyone shares dorms so it didn't make a huge difference
  • sri lanka sometimes has issues with power which was a little annoying in the shower but i was always out so i barely noticed
