GIVE's mission is to inspire growth, empower global citizens, and ignite sustainable change worldwide. To truly inspire growth and achieve sustainable travel internationally, GIVE has adopted the Asset-based community development (ABCD) model, a set of proven best practices in sustainable development that mobilizes a community’s assets and resources as the basis for development. Furthermore, through providing hands-on and eye-opening learning experiences that foster authentic connections between participants and host community members, we can empower global citizens who will continue to spread GIVE’s values and ignite sustainable change worldwide.
Exploring the world with GIVE is all about responsible travel, but what does that really mean?
Mindful Tourism + Community Partnership = Economic Growth & Community Empowerment.

Part of what makes GIVE trips so special is being fully immersed in the cultures and communities we visit. However, we take extra steps to ensure we minimize our influence and always respect local cultures. We prepare all participants before travel and ensure they understand the culture and how to dress appropriately.

Thailand Give Scuba Program

The trip was laid out extremely well, the whole day is filled with activities that offer a challenge to those seeking it. The trip also ensures that everyone is taken care and that safety is focused as their main priority. The staff are very knowledgeable on the local communities and the history and are a great way to learn about all the places you see and stay. The Give staff and boat crew are also well informed on diving and can provide amazing insight for understanding diving and how you can proceed with it in the future.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
While out there under the water I was able to see a lot of exotic marine life I don’t normally see like sea horses, stingrays, sea snakes, and eels.
Pros
  • Chance to earn diving certificate
  • Opportunity to see different ecosystems
  • Activities that push comfort zones
Cons
  • Sea/motion sickness
  • Minimal chances to see towns

Thailand SCUBA 2024

Everything about my GIVE trip greatly exceeded all of my expectations!! During my short, 10-day trip to Krabi, Thailand I was able to gather so much information and insight about the world around me while also learning how to leave a positive, lasting impact through responsible travel. The people that I met, including all of the wonderful guides, SCUBA instructors, locals, and my fellow volunteers all played the most important part in having made my experience with GIVE as life-changing as it was and I am so grateful to each and every one of them! The things that I experienced and saw during my SCUBA trip in Thailand, whether that be the beauty of the people in the community and how they love each other and their environment OR the not-so-beautiful trash floating in the ocean, piled up on the beaches, and buried in the sand nearly everywhere, completely altered my view of the world and my relationship with it. I can confidently say that I want nothing more than to be a better person and a better human after my trip and GIVE has given me the knowledge and the confidence to believe that I can accomplish that, and whatever else I set my mind to! I could write a novel full of my gratitude towards this organization!! Thank you GIVE 💚

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be afraid to push your limits and challenge any limiting beliefs you have about yourself! You will be amazed at what you are capable of and GIVE gave me the confidence to believe that!
Pros
  • Making amazing connections with people
  • Learning how to travel ethically and responsibly for the future
  • Trying new things in a foreign environment
Cons
  • Cost
  • Travel time

What an INCREDIBLE Experience

GIVE's Thailand Scuba Program was incredible beyond my expectations! Outside of the certification, the knowledge I gained about coral, sharks, and mangroves was great and I loved that they had experts on each subject tell us about them. Additionally, we were able to connect with students from a school, visit and do activities in Kho Klang, and do a cooking class which allowed us to be culturally immersed and learn some more Thai. The scuba part itself was such a great experience because of our instructors at Fast Manta and the crew on the boat with us each day. I was able to see a cuttlefish, lionfish, sea turtle, and more, all while feeling comfortable and confident in the scuba diving skills I was taught! Thank you especially to Seth, Hannah, and P'Nice for being amazing guides each and every day! I'm looking forward to signing up for another GIVE trip for next summer!!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is to do everything with an open mind! There were so many times on the trip when any of us could have been closed off to trying new things, but we never were, and we had so much more fun because of it!
Pros
  • Breaking out of my comfort zone
  • Learning about a new culture
  • Understanding what it means to be a global citizen
