About Program

Are you looking for a meaningful, safe, affordable, and exciting adventure abroad? Africa – the very name screams “adventure!” And at the geographical heart of the African continent sits the extraordinary land of Uganda.

Uganda lies next to the Equator, where the East African savannah meets the West African jungle, making this an area of unimaginable biodiversity. There is no other country in the world like it. Over 100,000 species of animals, including 1,200 species of butterflies, call Uganda their home. Explore the world’s second largest lake, Lake Victoria, and see the headwaters of the mighty Nile River.

IFRE volunteer programs in Uganda serve orphanages, HIV/AIDS awareness relief, healthcare, and English education projects. A country full of needs in contrast to its wild panoramas, Uganda offers an indelible experience you will never forget. For all its beauty, the needs in Uganda are great. make a difference in Uganda today!.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Great place

I lived in nabbingo for 5 weeks and had a great time with Herman and his very friendly family.
As a med student I was able to practice and learn a lot from the friendly staff in mpigi health clinic.

I would recommend this project, and I think the school project is very good as well.

If you are trying to decide between projects, choose this one. I talked with other volunteers in Uganda and on the flight home and I am very happy that I ended up with Herman.
I can guarantee that this is 100 times better than the projects in Kampala hosting 20 volunteers a week.

(If you want comforts, parties and foreigners don’t go volunteering duh, otherwise do this project and not a bigger one)

The work of the clinic was focused on HIV, maternity, malaria but also non communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

What would you improve about this program?
The dollars that you have to pay to the organization felt pretty waste, I rather get the contact to the in country coordinator right away without paying for it. (So that 100% of what I pay go to the ppl on site)

(Went with ifre volunteers)

Orphanage Program in Uganda

I worked at a school for poor children and sometimes volunteered at an orphanage. It was a great experience, it was tough too, and devastating to hear some of these children's stories - it makes you feel grateful for everything you've got. The staff at the school and the host family were all lovely, welcoming and open. It wasn't too formal, we had a lot of fun together. Anyone considering dong volunteer work should definitely try this program - don't expect luxury, this is Africa, but expect warmth and joy.

What would you improve about this program?
The overall program was great but it can always be improved. I would say the number of weeks to volunteer and the responsibilities for volunteers to be increased.
