Yes, I recommend this program

Creative Writing in the Land of Lochs and Legends

Not to be completely dramatic, but this program was seriously the best thing in my entire life. The staff is wonderful and I have made so many friends, friends I hope to have for a lifetime. Activities are well chosen, well organized, fun, and engaging. I especially enjoyed the overnight trip to the Highlands and the Ceilidh the program took us to! For writers, the instructor, Janis Mackay, was wonderful and it was so insightful to learn from an actual writer! We workshopped, shared, revised, and everything needed to improve actual writing. The prompts push you to write about setting, characters, but also in different styles like poetry and prose. I highly recommend this program to anyone and everyone!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The program allows you to professionally record a piece of your writing on one of the last days and it was a little frightening. You sit in a real recording room and chair. You have the headphones on and everyone else is sitting listening to you in the next room over. It’s scary. But afterward I wanted to rush back in and do it all over again. It’s a wonderful opportunity and was so fun to share my and hear my friends stories!
Pros
  • Challenging (pushed me as a writer to be better)
  • Rewarding (I FEEL like my writing has improved)
  • FUN (you do so many cool things both related to writing and not)
Cons
  • Fast-Paced (you are busy! Get lots of sleep)
  • Lots of walking! (something to be aware of - might not be a con)
  • No/limited AC (though that is really just a norm in Europe)
