CIEE High School Summer Abroad in Scotland

This experience has absolutely affected me and the way I see my life and world. It showed me just how big and diverse the world can be, and I’m grateful for that. I will say that I was exhausted a lot of the time. It’s very socially intensive and I’m just not made for that so I really wish there had been another free day or two. I also think I would’ve enjoyed it more if certain activities were optional, just because to an extent it felt like they were just trying to fill space. Overall, I would absolutely recommend it. I got to meet fantastic new people, learn more about myself, and find a greater appreciation in the world around me.

Enjoyed it so much!!! Made so many new friends and saw so many cool sights! The instructor, Janis Mackaye was amazing in helping us process our writing and to open up to writing even more! Through experiences outdoors, we got to know Edinburgh like a local, with field trips almost daily, and opportunities to show and eat on the way. Downtime was plentiful, and free time was one of the best additions to explore around the city! Overall, the CIEE Session 1 High School Summer Abroad Program was perfect.

Not to be completely dramatic, but this program was seriously the best thing in my entire life. The staff is wonderful and I have made so many friends, friends I hope to have for a lifetime. Activities are well chosen, well organized, fun, and engaging. I especially enjoyed the overnight trip to the Highlands and the Ceilidh the program took us to! For writers, the instructor, Janis Mackay, was wonderful and it was so insightful to learn from an actual writer! We workshopped, shared, revised, and everything needed to improve actual writing. The prompts push you to write about setting, characters, but also in different styles like poetry and prose. I highly recommend this program to anyone and everyone!
