Stunning Sydney!

My experience was amazing and was placed in an internship that matched my career path and skill set! I was able to be placed in career that was perfect for me and aligned with my values and where I see myself in the future. The planned trips through AIFS was phenomenal with my personal highlight of a beautiful Blue Mountains hike! There was also a winery tour in the Hunter Valley as well as a Taronga Zoo visit! Throughout the trip our AIFS supervisor was available to ask for advice as well as offered to tour us around popular sightseeing areas.

Pros
  • Career growth
  • Academic growth
  • International experience
Cons
  • Housing
  • Away from friends

AIFS Sydney, Australia Internship Program

Getting to be a part of the AIFS Sydney, Australia internship program was an amazing experience. The onsite coordinator was excellent as well as the various events planned by AIFS which helped us explore the sites even more. I got to meet many new people and even got credit hours from this experience. I also figured out a lot about my chosen field in the process and what my future career may look like. If I could give any advice to anyone who wants to do an internship in Australia it would be to explore the city, or even outside of the city, as much as possible during your time here because the weeks go by fast.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I was able to try kangaroo rump at one point during the internship. It was essentially a more chewy steak which was definitely unexpected but welcome.
Pros
  • I learned a lot about my chosen career field.
  • I got to explore the sights and do many fun activities.
Cons
  • Not enough time to explore/socialize. Especially if you have to travel far to get to work and/or are getting credits for the program.

What made this experience great

After doing my internship in Sydney, Australia I would have to say that it was amazing. Not only did I get to meet lots of new people from different backgrounds, but I also got to make new friends, do cool activities, and learn lots of new things from my internship along the way. Also, what I would recommend for students who decide to pursue doing an internship in Australia is to explore as much possible and meet as many new people as possible as these friendships and experiences you make can last a lifetime.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I ate was a kangaroo burger since kangaroos don’t live where I come from. Also, after eating the kangaroo burger I would have to say that I would get it again as it tasted good and was pretty similar to beef.
Pros
  • Learned new things from my internship
  • Made new friends
  • Did cool activities
Cons
  • Organizing group activities for big groups of people
  • The weather when it was raining
  • Not having enough time to do everything

Summer in Aussie

I loved my experience with the AIFS program! Getting to know the AIFS intern group, exploring Sydney (nature, city life, foodie spots, etc.) and being a part of a great internship work environment have been the best parts of this experience. Everyone at my internship has been very supportive and friendly! We also had a really great onsite coordinator who was very helpful and also coordinated fun social events for all of us. Overall, I would really recommend applying to this program if you get the opportunity to :)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be afraid to try new things :)
Pros
  • Scenic views
  • Safe city
  • Friendly people

Sydney with AIFS is amazing

The Sydney program with AIFS is fantastic; I would recommend it to everyone. I participated in their internship program in 2023 and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Sydney is an extremely safe city with friendly people. Traveling is easy, and there are so many things to do in Sydney and Australia. Our Australian mom for the program, Andrea, is just as amazing and made the experience even better. As for the internship, I loved my experience working for the finance team in a non-profit. Also, the housing is very nice and in a great location.

AIFS Internship in Sydney, Australia

I went abroad to Sydney, Australia for a three month internship with AIFS. AIFS helped me to find a company that would fit best with my work interest as well as found a great apartment for us. The location of the apartment was very central to my internship as well as close to public transport, making it easy to get around. My advisor, Andrea, was more than helpful throughout the whole process and made me feel comfortable and help adjust to the big change of being in a different country. There were a few trips planned throughout the program as well including a winery trip and a trip to the Royal National Park. It was cool to be able to meet people within the program and get to do activities together to have other people that are in the same boat as us being abroad. I would definitely recommend this program as well as the location!

Best Experience Of My Life - Sydney Internship

Traveling to Sydney for an internship was the best next step for me both professionally and personally. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I'd do it over again in a heartbeat (I am even considering doing another program with AIFS). They check all the boxes, and all your needs are met. They provide you with insurance, housing, and all the interviews are set up for you.

Realistically this was a great option to travel for a good price while being able to add experiences and skills to your resume. Before the interviews, they help you prepare by helping you make your resume professional for interviews and let you know the next steps you need to take. It was a very valuable experience that has helped me feel more confident in my professional life.

We had amazing support in Sydney when we arrived from the on-site advisor. She was an amazing resource who assisted us with everything from navigating public transport to finding the nearest grocery store. She made sure we were prepared and checked up on us throughout our time here, which was really nice. Additionally, she ensured that our internships were going well and even vouched for us if necessary. My roommates and I felt so lucky to have had her support throughout our internships.

This experience is a great way to make friends, explore a new country, and get some professional experiences! Sydney is also a great city if you want to be social and meet tons of people! There are places to go every weekend to meet both local people your age and people who are on exchange as well. This city also has a lot of opportunities to try new things solo if you would rather do that! You get the best of both worlds here.

Pros
  • Sydney is huge and accessible - you can travel all over Sydney and farther by public transport
  • Food - the food is amazing! Especially the coffee and pastries
  • Beach town - no matter where you live in Sydney its super easy to get to the beach

Intern in Sydney, Australia!

The program makes it easy to match you to an internship. Once on-site, your advisor checks in with you throughout about your internship. They also offer fun activities included in the program that allow you to see more of the city. On the other side, this program is on the pricier side and living in Sydney is expensive. The city is a great place to explore from the markets, beaches, and surfing to the surrounding national parks and wildlife, there is always something to do. One thing I wish was different about the internship placement process is the clarity in the roles/tasks of the internship specifically for the period you are interning for, where I noticed with mine as well as other interns that it was not what they expected in terms of the assigned roles. Overall, I had a great experience and would not trade it!
