About Program

Join a humanitarian cause and gain meaningful practical work experience in Africa!

Make a difference in the lives of young girls and women of Cape Town, South Africa or Livingstone, Zambia by joining a gender equality and human rights internship with Roots Interns. South Africa has been plagued by gender-based violence and has the highest rape statistics in the world. The women play a vital role in every household and community, yet they are the underserved members of the society.

Be part of a nonprofit organization to help empower these women with the education and health support they need. Develop your own skill set as well as gain invaluable knowledge and experience while you contribute to the organization’s important cause.

You can choose to join the female empowerment program remotely or onsite - the stunning places of South Africa and Zambia.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with Roots Interns for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.

Impact 🌎

Having started off as the offshoot of an urban greening project, Roots Interns has always been aware of our environmental impact. That's why we work with projects and accommodations that are also actively aware of their impact and striving to make a positive difference. By consciously choosing partners that have sustainable practices in place, we can work towards balancing out any impacts on the environment with equally positive actions.
Roots Interns was built around a need for qualified interns in the sustainable development sector. Whether supporting environmental or wildlife conservation or social development, our internships leave a tangible positive footprint on people’s lives and their environment. Working at a grassroots level ensures that the needs of host communities are always at the forefront, no matter the specific cause. Many of our partners support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, further aligning our internships with creating sustainable change. We take great pride in the impact our interns create with the organization they work with and the connections they're able to make in new locations and cultures.
