Great teachers! Real Progress!

I started private lessons at The Bridge School after moving to Beijing in 2024. I didn’t speak much Chinese at all, but after a year or so, I can hold conversations, get through daily life, and probably sit around HSK3. Way more progress than I expected, honestly.

The teachers are awesome. Super professional but also easy to talk to. My main teacher, Li Laoshi, was really sharp and patient, especially with tones and grammar. She explained things in a way that actually made it stick.

Even though I was doing 1-on-1, the school had a really welcoming vibe. Everyone was helpful, and I always looked forward to lessons. A couple of friends started learning Mandarin around the same time, and I’ve definitely pulled ahead of them. That feels pretty good.

Pros
  • Teachers genuinely care about your progress
  • Flexible scheduling

Great lessons for kids

My 5-year-old daughter is taking private lessons at The Bridge School for almost a year, and she absolutely loves it. The teachers are so kind and patient, and they really know how to work with young kids. Every class includes fun games, songs, and activities. All the staff have been so sweet with her. She is very excited to go and never wants to miss a lesson. Now she can speak basic Chinese and can read some words! There are also some teachers speak Spanish, very helpful. As a mom, I’m really happy we found this school. ¡Muy bien!

High-Quality Lessons That Go Beyond the Basics

I reached an advanced level in Chinese about ten years ago, but after so much time away, I knew I needed help getting back into it. I’ve been taking private lessons at The Bridge School for about six months now, and it’s been exactly what I needed.

My teacher is incredibly knowledgeable, especially when it comes to grammar, vocabulary choices, and character meaning. Some of the trickier grammar points and word differences that I used to just guess at are finally making sense. I also thought my tones were fine, but she gently pointed out where I was off and helped me correct them in a way that actually stuck.

One of my favorite parts has been our conversations after class. We often talk about Chinese history, culture, and philosophy, which adds so much depth to the language. It’s both intellectually satisfying and fun.

The quality of teaching here is truly excellent, and I feel supported and challenged in the best way. I’ve loved my time here so far, and I’m definitely planning to continue.

What was your funniest moment?
During a school-organized tour to the Confucius Temple, I ended up having a really deep conversation with the tour guide about Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism. She was so impressed by the questions I asked, and there were even a few things she didn’t have an answer for. That was one of those moments where I thought, “Wow, I’ve actually learned a lot.”
Pros
  • Teachers explain advanced grammar and vocabulary in a way that actually makes sense
  • Lessons often connect language with history, culture, and philosophy, which makes learning much more meaningful
What other participants should know
  • I’d love to see even more cultural activities or lectures outside of class
