This has been one of the best tours iv been on! Aggy made the tour amazing, she was so welcoming and friendly, and went out of her way to make our trip special.
Nothing was to much trouble for her, and she made everything fun!
The only suggestion I would make is the accomodation in Gili T, while the Gili Mansion was good, it was a party hostel and at times it was to busy and to loud.
I would rather have stayed somewhere quieter, as one of our party was ill there, and they could not get any rest, and then go to the part hostels if we wished.
I have made memories I will never forget!!

What would you improve about this program?
The only improvement I would make is to change the last 2 destinations around. So end in Ubud.

Our tour guide, Aggy was amazing - such a sweet, kind and caring person . Aggy definitely wasn’t just a tour guide but became a friend too and we loved spending time with her. Aggy was very supportive in all our activities and made herself available for contact 24/7- she was very informative and taught us all about the culture of Bali - her English is excellent and she was so kind that she fitted things into our itinerary that weren’t even listed for our trip because she knew we would love to do them and she managed this without missing anything else out !! Thank you Aggy for such a wonderful trip ! She also made my birthday very special with a personalised cake !! Aggy is a wonderful tour guide and We were llucky to have her :) my favourite parts of the trip were surfing and snorkelling .thank you to my lovely group and to Aggy ! Thanks ultimate Bali !

What would you improve about this program?
The only things I would suggest would be to have the hostel as a shorter visit (3 nights is a long time in a hostel!) or perhaps have the nice hotel at the end of the trip rather than the hostel :) and also to let people know how many will be on their tour more than two or three days before the trip begins as I was shocked to find out I only had four other people with me !! I was disappointed as I booked the trip especially so meet lots of new people and it was too late for me to cancel finding out at this stage ... I think people should have the option of cancelling when you think there will be about 15 people and two days before find out there are only five ! Luckily my group were so lovely and I had a fantastic time !

What made the tour was Aggy! Without her, the tour wouldn’t have been nearly as good. Friendly, informative and so much fun. If you get her as your group leader, count yourself very lucky.
The only downside would be the last hostel. I think it would have been better to stay in a quieter place, and not the party hostel. Then you have the choice to go to it or not, instead of having people outside your room doing shots at 9:30am.

Also, do the climb up Mount Batur! It’s worth it, trust me :)

What would you improve about this program?
Change last hostel

Had an amazing time on ultimate Bali, aggy made the experience even more special. She was more of a friend than a tour guide. She was very flexible and would try and fit in anything extra we wanted to see. Aggy was very knowledgable and so friendly she made us all feel so comfortable and at home here. The tour was very well organised, there was a range of activities and I really enjoyed them all and got to see so many different areas of Bali. Would definitely recommend this trip and aggy she is a star.

What would you improve about this program?
I would have liked a different hostel in Gili T as it was a party hostel so very loud.

The itinerary was pretty good, we had a fun group, but our guide was terrible. Excluding the guide for a minute, the activities were great, the surf lesson was good even for those who have surfed a few times already, the accommodation they put you in up until Gili T was incredible!! On Gili T we were in a party hostel for three nights, the first night we enjoyed the pool party and we loved having a pool outside our dorm room. Although, my boyfriend and I were extremely sick of being in a party hostel by the end, we should have been moved to a quieter hostel, those who wanted to party every night could have still done so as the hostel had open doors to anyone. The welcome dinner was the best meal I had on my entire trip.

Now our guide... While snorkelling she was standing on the coral with her flippers tearing apart the already dying coral, and was touching the turtles for her instagram photos. She was only there for her own holiday, she was absolutely zero help when we had any questions. She didn't spend a minute more with us than she had to, I also found it interesting that our guide and the guide in training under her got their own private room on the second floor away from the noise at our party hostel, while my boyfriend and I shared with strangers and got to be beside the speakers of the party every night. Not that we don't dorm it up while we are travelling, but if the guides don't want to put up with it I find it interesting that we should.

Long story short, our trip would have been greatly improved had we been given a different guide, the highlights of the trip were when we asked locals our questions and found amazing things to do or things to eat.

What would you improve about this program?
DIFFERENT GUIDE!!!!! The trip was fantastic otherwise

Hi Carly - Thank you for the feedback. We're really glad to hear you loved the locations we visited and the activities. The Gili's are beautiful, right?! We received some great reviews from other participants on your tour date but we have taken your feedback into account and are working to resolve the issues you mentioned. We hope to see you on another one of our tours really soon so that we can show you what we have to offer in other locations. Thanks!

Alumni Interviews

These are in-depth Q&A sessions with verified alumni.

Why did you choose this program?

The main reason my boyfriend and I chose this program was for its location. We only had 3 weeks as I was on spring break, and this had the perfect time frame. We were happy with the itinerary and was happy with where the trip finished off so we could continue on our way. Things that were very appealing to us was the surf lesson, the morning hike, the local cooking class, the snorkeling, and the temple exploring day.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

For the ten days, we were with the group our accommodation was taken care of, and we were put up in very nice places up until the last one. The trip included activities like a surfing lesson, local cooking class, snorkeling and others which were all organized for us. We had to organize our own food, and find things to do when there was free time. We were unlucky and had a very unhelpful guide, she couldn't point us in the direction of any of the things we asked, and rarely answered our questions. This trip would have been greatly improved had our guide been more knowledgeable and not there for her own holiday.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I would tell them that you do not always have to follow the group. As an example, the one night we were going for group dinner on the beach to watch the sunset, except for the place we ended up going to was very touristy and extremely expensive. We ended up leaving the group to find dinner, where we found the most incredible Thai restaurant that was 1/3 of the price too! That is only one example of many occasions where we had fun when a few of us found more local experiences.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

The hotels provided a small breakfast, and on most days we would have time to eat before starting the activities for the day. It was very organized with good communication on where to be and at what time. Every day is very different though so you get to experience a lot. There is a decent amount of travel time during this program, just because locations are a little spread out, but once you're outside of Kuta the traffic gets better, and it takes less time to commute to the next destination.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

It was the first time I was bringing my professional camera equipment with me, and I was nervous about theft or damage. I did have insurance on it, but the backpack I purchased for the trip provided the security I needed to feel safe with it. I have never been and never once was worried about my safety, weather concerns, or any other typical fears people have of being abroad.

What were the highlight(s) of the trip?

During the program, the biggest highlight for me was on the party night. The guides organized it so we could go club hopping, but when they decided to go to fancier clubs that you had to pay to get into half of us decided we were done for the night. We ended up getting scooter rides back and they got lost, we were racing each other trying to get home first, cheering on the local who was driving us! It was even a highlight over when we rented scooters on a later day.

Job Title
Tour Leader Vietnam/Sales Coordinator

Jeff started as a Tour Leader for Ultimate Adventure Travel in Australia in 2014 and then moved on to lead trips in Thailand and most recently Vietnam as well! In addition, he has been the in-house Sales Coordinator for Ultimate Adventure Travel for the last 3 years helping people all over the world book onto the Ultimate trips, whatever questions you may have, Jeff is happy to help answer them!

What is your favorite travel memory?

Almost too many to think of! But one that was very special was when I helped orchestrate a wedding proposal on Koh Phi Phi! One of the group was wanting to propose to his boyfriend while on the trip and I suggested to wait until we hike up to the viewpoint on Koh Phi Phi as it is such a beautiful setting.

That day I ran around the island looking for any sort of "sparkling wine" that we could celebrate with and then when we got to the top I corralled everyone (other than those two) off to the side for a fake group photo. He was confused on why they weren't in it but then he turned around and his boyfriend was on one knee and the proposal began!

Not gonna lie a tear or two may have escaped, it was amazing, he said YES, thankfully! They got married this past year, I'm always going to remember that one!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have definitely become more courageous out here! I used to be scared of heights but I now do heaps of adrenaline packed activities regularly which I never thought I would do in a million years!

5 years ago if you told me to abseil down a waterfall I'd call you crazy, but now it's my standard Thursday! A 3-4 meter jump used to scare me breathless, now I start my mornings in Halong Bay jumping 10 meters off the Junk Boat! Travel has really made me face my fears head on and overcome them along the way.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I love all our trips as I've been on them or helped lead them, but my favorite right now would have to be Vietnam! It just has an amazing blend of culture, nightlife, delicious food, cool activities and adrenaline all packed up into two weeks of amazing times!

The accommodation we stay in is unique and we try to go off the beaten path to take you to places where you wouldn't even know to go! Vietnam is still developing its backpacker scene so you see locals and backpackers out together which I really love as you get to experience what the locals do instead of just the tourist hot spots.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

What really makes me proud to be a part of Ultimate Adventure Travel is how much the company cares about animal welfare along our trips. For example, we have no animal activities which involve harm, abuse or distress in any way; this is why we do not ride elephants in Thailand, visit any Tiger Temples or pose for photos with Buffalo in Vietnam.

These photos and activities may seem innocent but the animals are often abused, neglected and tortured so we have taken a strong stance against it, which I am proud to represent.
