Interning in Galway!

Interning in Galway may have been the best decision I have made! The global experiences program made it very easy to set up interviews with host companies and land an internship that would most benefit my knowledge of my major and career outlooks. The program team was always ahead of the game, making sure travel paperwork and coaching calls were maintained in the months leading up to departure. The program was very helpful and friendly in my needs and what I wanted to accomplish whilst on the trip. Thanks GE!

Pros
  • Several cultural events
  • Beautiful accomodations
  • Practical Work Experience

Very well done

My apartment was in a great location in the city center with a nice view. There were fun social events throughout the program that helped me meet other interns and learn about Spanish culture. I always felt well supported by the staff with any questions I had. They ask for feedback from you and the employer throughout the internship to make sure that you’re getting the most out of the experience. Barcelona is a beautiful city with lots of things to do and see, so you’ll never feel bored. If you’re interested in interning abroad I would definitely recommend this program.

Amazing time in Milan

Being in Milan this summer was truly one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. I was able to try so many new things in Milan and see so many amazing parts of the city and of Italy because of the events the program planned for us. Each even was a great time and was even better to be surrounded by friends from the program. I would truly recommend this experience to any all students looking to expand their travels and they’re world view. The culture in Italy is vibrant, the people are welcoming and this program ensures you have safe and helpful travels along the way.

Events planned by location coordinators

My location coordinators Amanda and Anotella planned tons of fun events for us all during our internship program. I did not go to all of the events because my sister and I wanted to do some of our own travel on weekends but we attended the following events: a couple of drinks and apertivo nights, the designer outdoor outlet mall, the Armani museum, and Lake Como! They also planned a trip to Verona and my friends in the program that went said it was amazing. We were sad we missed out, but already had travel plans. All of the events were stress-free since Amanda and Anotella managed everything with the events. We just had to show up! I am very satisfied with the events they planned and thought they were a lot of fun and a good way to get to know other kids in the program.

This experience has changed my life

I interned at a Market Research company this summer in Barcelona, Spain.

I always want to experience new things and traveling the world is top three priority for me. I want to spend time living in different countries rather than vacationing so when I came across The Global Experiences Program and saw that it aligned really well with this goal, I chose to move forward with it. The process before actually arriving in Spain was very clear and well taken care of. The staff do their best work and take everything into account.

When arriving in Spain, I felt anxious but I expected this so it was not shock to me. During our welcome week orientation our advisor Ínma starts talking about culture shock and how to navigate it. This was helpful for me because I knew that what I was feeling was being validated. She continued to emphasise the importance of perspective and how to find the sweet parts of any situation that you are in. Although cliche, I repeated this to myself throughout the entire summer. Now, here I am, one week left and happy to have this mindset. My internship felt warm and welcoming from the very first day. My supervisor dedicated herself to teaching me new skills as the rest of the advisors in GE do. Overall, I made professional connections that I am grateful for as it opens up doors and possabilities for me.

I am so grateful for this experience.

Pros
  • Networking
  • Growth Mindset
  • New Friends
Cons
  • Jet Lag
  • Uncomfortable bed
  • Broken Air Conditioning

FUN TIMES

My time with Global Experience was great. I had the opportunity of being partnered with an NGO in Ethiopia, where I was able to learn and practice various skills. Examples are project management, time management, writing, research and summary skills. Global Experience also provided workshops to teach us how to use our time in our placement effectively. Carmen was also very helpful in helping me navigate any issues I encountered, which further enhanced my time at Global Experience.

I would recommend this program because it allows you to learn valuable skills and help you decide what direction you want to go in for your career. Global Experience can also help you troubleshoot any issues you may encounter. They are there to help and guide you, so do not be afraid to reach out.

Pros
  • Workshops
  • Good Partnering
  • Help from Carmen to navigate any issues

Great Virtual Internship!

I was very pleased and excited to accept the position of Communications Intern-Virtual for GE-AIFS. I was placed with a boutique company headquarted in Spain, being responsible for researching and writing content for blog posts, social media such as Instagram and for LinkedIn. It was a delight to work in the arts and culture industry where I became immersed in new artists, trailblazers who are women of color, as well as curators and directors of museums all while collaborating with the host company. I am very appreciative of the experience and am certain that this has broadened my horizons and expanded the reach of the host company. Thank you again for the experience--I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a virtual internship.

Pros
  • Flexible schedule
  • Great people
  • Relevant + Interesting Work
Cons
  • Internship time period was too short
  • Adjusting for the time difference
  • Scheduling difficulties

No, I don't recommend this program

terrible

not good. this was their first year doing the program in rome but it still shouldn't be this bad. half of the people that came did not have an internship even 2 weeks into the program. ge was scrambling to find them interviews and found a few okay ones but most of them were bad. many people just got a full refund and quit the program. our internship coordinator was not helpful and pretty rude. i got an internship a few weeks before leaving and i am working there now. not much better for me because i have to go in for a 40 hour week and have close to nothing to do but they refuse to let me go home. i've asked for more to do and they have nothing. i emailed the internship coordinator and she's conveniently on vacation. had to email and call many others just for them to say that i have to still come in for the whole week. i. have. nothing. to. do. this job requires max 2 days. i emailed my school coordinator and am waiting to see if i can do part time. it simply doesnt make sense why they are forcing me to work a 40 hour week when i just come into the office (one hour commute each ways btw) to sit there and be bored.

the housing is okay, pretty far from the center and small but cute. some people got awful housing and had to switch multiple times so i guess we got lucky.

the only reason why i'm having a good time is because of the people and the fact that we are in rome. ge has done basically nothing beneficial.

moral of the story, dont do it. if you really want to, go somewhere that they have a more established thing in place so you're not the guinea pigs like we all were.

Pros
  • a few free aperitivos
Cons
  • bad internship
  • poor management
  • not worth the cost
Response from Global Experiences

Thank you for reflecting about your time abroad and sharing your feedback with us. It is extremely important for us to know when we are missing the mark on interns experiences. While we cannot adjust university requirements we can work to better our communication and expectations. It sounds like you have started working with team members to resolve many issues you have encountered, but if you are still left unresolved please contact your Program Advisor and we can continue to work together.

Everything I Imagined and More

If you are a recent college/university graduate and you think you’ve missed out on your once in a life time opportunity to study or intern abroad, look no further. I thought I’d missed my chance due to the pandemic but GE gave me the chance to still fulfill that dream of mine.
My goal was to explore different industries and my internship at a chamber of commerce allowed me to do just that. The housing was centrally located gave us access to a gym, dance studio, study rooms, and lounge. 6 interns shared a kitchen and living room and we each had a private bedroom and bathroom.
Gregg, GE’s London program coordinator, provided almost weekly outings full of London’s gems beyond the typical tourist attractions. He was very attentive to all of the interns needs, checking in frequently and taking action when needed. London is an expensive city so it was nice that most expenses for Gregg’s outings were prepaid by our program fees.

Interning in London - Overall a great experience!

While there are definitely both pros and cons to interning with GE, the experience overall was enjoyable. London is made especially fantastic by the on-site coordinator, Gregg, who provides invaluable support, fun and educational activities, and will go to bat for you to ensure you have a good time. The housing was excellent, my internship was educational, and I was given many opportunities to learn and grow from the experience. The housing is in a great location, is incredibly safe, and very clean. You are guaranteed to enjoy the social activities provided by the location coordinator.

Pros
  • Fantastic on-site coordinator with lots of great social activities
  • Excellent housing in terms of cleanliness, safety, and location
  • Excellent on-site support
Cons
  • Lack of internship options - likely to not be placed in your top field
  • Extremely expensive, including hidden fees
  • Hard to balance a full time internship with school work for students who need course credit
