I interned at a Market Research company this summer in Barcelona, Spain.
I always want to experience new things and traveling the world is top three priority for me. I want to spend time living in different countries rather than vacationing so when I came across The Global Experiences Program and saw that it aligned really well with this goal, I chose to move forward with it. The process before actually arriving in Spain was very clear and well taken care of. The staff do their best work and take everything into account.
When arriving in Spain, I felt anxious but I expected this so it was not shock to me. During our welcome week orientation our advisor Ínma starts talking about culture shock and how to navigate it. This was helpful for me because I knew that what I was feeling was being validated. She continued to emphasise the importance of perspective and how to find the sweet parts of any situation that you are in. Although cliche, I repeated this to myself throughout the entire summer. Now, here I am, one week left and happy to have this mindset. My internship felt warm and welcoming from the very first day. My supervisor dedicated herself to teaching me new skills as the rest of the advisors in GE do. Overall, I made professional connections that I am grateful for as it opens up doors and possabilities for me.
I am so grateful for this experience.
Response from Global Experiences
Thank you for reflecting about your time abroad and sharing your feedback with us. It is extremely important for us to know when we are missing the mark on interns experiences. While we cannot adjust university requirements we can work to better our communication and expectations. It sounds like you have started working with team members to resolve many issues you have encountered, but if you are still left unresolved please contact your Program Advisor and we can continue to work together.
