Interning down under

I really enjoyed my internship. I feel like I got a jump ahead in terms of experience in my field of study. My coworkers and supervisors were great- very friendly and willing to help me learn. Outside of that, being in Australia was an excellent time. Even though it was winter, I was able to spend pretty sufficient time on the beach. The GE excursions included a trip to the Hunter Valley wine country and a trip to the Blue Mountains, both of which I enjoyed thoroughly. The living accommodations were nice, too.

Very happy I did an internship abroad!

I am about to end my experience here in Milan and I’m not ready to leave. I have enjoyed this experience so much and believe I have grown as an individual because of it. The program coordinators Amanda and Antonella are very sweet and we’re always there whenever I needed anything. Having both Amanda and Antonella around was a huge comfort and made me feel safer interning abroad. The events and trips planned we’re a lot of fun and made it much easier than having to plan things on my own. Living in Milan for 8 weeks and working here allowed me to immerse myself in Italian culture and lifestyle. The main negative I do have to comment on is all housing options should be provided with air conditioning as Europe reached record high numbers this summer. Without ac I dreaded going back to my apartment despite the apartment itself being in good condition. When my roommates and I were dealing with our very hot apartment both Amanda and Antonella supported us all the way in trying to solve our problems which I’m very grateful for. Overall, if you can study/intern abroad this is your sign to go for it!

Pros
  • Culture
  • Food
  • Beautiful Sights
Cons
  • Housing
  • Heat
  • Unreliable public transportation at times

Best summer of my life!

This was easily one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life. Interning abroad leads to a lot of personal and professional growth, and is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I am so happy I took. Inma and Elena were our supervisors and they were attentive, helpful, and super fun! The events they set up for us were a great way to learn more about Spanish/Catalan culture while having a great time and trying new things. They were also a great way to meet people in your host city and make friends!! Plus, I really feel like my career path benefited from my internship and taught me so much. Overall this was an amazing experience that I will forever be glad I did!

Pros
  • Experiencing and immersing yourself into a new culture
  • Meeting new and amazing people
  • Lots of professional growth and connections
Cons
  • Culture shock/discomfort at first

“I travel continuously, and I see many cities, but there is nowhere like London.” – Norman Foster

My only issues lie not with the on-site staff, but with what GE marketed the program to be. I applied for a specific internship opportunity listed on their website (I believe it said specifically "work for a contemporary art gallery"), and I ended up working for a museum of architecture. None of my blame lies in Shani, she did a great job aligning my interests, qualifications, and the opportunities present in London this summer. However, it has felt like false marketing on GE's side to promote one thing, and provide another.

I would have no issues if instead they marketed a generalized opportunity (such as "work within the art scene of London"), rather than a niche position that I applied specifically for.

Besides that, Gregg and Shani do a fantastic job ensuring the safety and support of 75+ young adults, many of whom it is their first time in the UK. The activities Gregg puts on are always diverse, affordable, and their own unique hidden gem that made me feel like a true "Londoner". Shani somehow manages to find jobs for dozens of students and their targeted careers, while juggling communication between various companies and international students. Although the internship may not be your dream profession, no matter what, the opportunity teaches you invaluable lessons on how to pursue that career.

If you need/want an international internship and want to push your own limits in a foreign country (all while still being supported by staff and friends), I would recommend this program.

Pros
  • Free, diverse activities everywhere
  • Beautiful city that is close to countless other places worth visiting
  • Diverse and inclusive environment
Cons
  • like any other city, there is crime and crowds
  • Housing was not the best, but not un-manageable
  • It can be expensive

I loved this program!

This experience was definitely one of a kind! I was given great experience for my specific major(s) and felt very at home! Our program supervisors, Amanda and Antonella we’re very helpful, kind and did so much to make us feel comfortable and safe. It was quite confusing in the beginning because we only received a couple of emails right before our departure and many internships were not confirmed until we arrived. I would still highly recommend coming in this program if you are interested in fashion marketing!

Pros
  • Amazing food
  • Gained great design skills
  • Beach is close
Cons
  • Confusing in the beginning (little help)
  • Bus schedule being off all the time
  • Hot

Amazing Experiance!

This was an amazing experience. I am so grateful I found such an amazing program that supported me every step of the way. I was able to explore the other side of the world, and develop professionally. I met other interns in so many different fields as well. The program coordinator, Andrea, was amazing! She made sure everything went smoothly from the second I landed in Australia. I have made so many amazing memories and learned so much from this experience! The scariest part about going overseas is figuring out how to do it. This program helped me every step of the way.

An Experience to Remember!

The time that I had with Global Experiences was amazing! I had the opportunity to intern with a non-profit organization in Barbados where I was able to learn new skills, as well as improve the skills that I already had. Skills like updating website content, project management, website content creation, and many more.
Throughout this process, I was supported by Global Experiences with their daily check-ins and workshops. Global Experiences made me feel supported, and that I had someone who wanted me to succeed and feel comfortable with my time as an intern. It was such a phenomenal experience, I gained such confidence through this experience and I have Global Experiences to thank!

Pros
  • Network
  • workshop/check-ins
  • Time management

Sydney GE Internship

Working and living in Sydney was an incredible experience this summer. My local coordinator, Andrea, worked super hard to make sure we had a great place to live and she also set up a bunch of different excursions for our group. I wasn't sure what to expect on my trip, but I found a lot of comfort in both familiar foods and activities as well as new experiences. The transportation options were incredible and the city was easy to get around. I loved my time in the city and I'm looking forward to coming back to Australia whenever I can.

Pros
  • Local coordinator
  • Local Food
  • Easily Navigable

Best internship experience!

I was matched with a marketing firm for local and touring theatre companies and I fell in love with the welcoming atmosphere everyone in the office shared with me, and I have my local coordinator for finding me that perfect match. I got to work with big Spanish stars, help at premieres, edit a regional magazine, and manage website and social media posts. I grew so much in areas I didn’t even know I had the potential to learn, and gained so much experience that I know I will use in any job I apply for. My internship was amazing, and the social outings were fun!
It is not too easy living with strangers, but having a room to ourselves helped to keep some boundaries needed, and further enjoy the times we did spend together for program sanctioned events and for anything we planned on our own. I loved being able to visit other places and cities during the weekends when I didn’t work. I have learned from different cultures, and appreciate traveling so much more than I ever thought I could. I had a phenomenal experience and would highly recommend everyone to do an internship abroad.

Pros
  • amazing internship
  • more travel opportunities
  • culture based experiences
Cons
  • roommate problems

Global Experiences Sydney

I have learned so many valuable lessons and skills during my internship with Global Experiences. I think one of the most important things I have learned is independence. Moving across the world is an incredibly big commitment, so to be able to do that alone is a great achievement, however, I have also had the responsibility of caring for myself without the help of family or close friends nearby. Global Experiences provided all of the resources necessary to succeed and excel in this environment, and wanted nothing but the best for us. They offered many interesting day trips and excursions for us to explore all that beautiful Australia has to offer, and really tried to make us feel at home. The program coordinator, Andrea, went above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable, included, and welcome.
I have also found this internship to be very valuable in terms of communication and networking as you meet so many other interns through global experiences, as well as an abundance of professionals in your line of work with similar interests. This has provided me with friendships that will last a lifetime, and memories I will cherish forever!

Pros
  • Flexibility
  • Connections
  • Experiences
