CIEE Middle Eastern Studies

I had a great time in Amman and with CIEE, I highly recommend it. Since the first few days of orientation, I knew I was going to have a great time. CIEE staff has been very supportive and has organized many events and activities, especially in the first period when it might be harder to adapt oneself to the culture. The classes were very interesting varying from language (Arabic and colloquial) to political science and international relations classes regarding the conflicts in the Middle East. I also had the opportunity to intern at a company in Amman, and in the free time to travel around the wonderful country.

Pros
  • Learning the language
  • Learning about the culture
  • Traveling around

Seville, Spain with CIEE: International Business and Culture Program

I loved this program in Seville, Spain. The staff are very accessible during your stay if you need anything. The CIEE building is beautiful (an old palace) and you can take classes or use it to study. The university, la Universidad de Pablo Olavide, is a really beautiful institution with good classes that only have around 18 people per class max. You take a two week intensive Spanish language course at the beginning of the semester and it helps with either learning Spanish or brushing up on your old Spanish. You get to choose to stay with a host (amazing way to immerse yourself and learn the language) OR you can stay in a residence hall. Now, the best for last, the program events. The events are AMAZING. It can range from listening to a brass band in the CIEE building to multiple different day trips in the south of Spain (Cordoba, Granada (overnight trip), Cadiz, Rhonda). Going to get churros, playing fútbol, seeing local buildings of Seville, and having a picnic with local Spanish students in the park.

There is so much to explore in Sevilla, and it is much easier to immerse yourself in the culture here than in Barcelona. You will be speaking a good amount of Spanish with locals and there is still a pretty big night life.

Pros
  • The CIEE activities and history of Sevilla
  • Two Week Spanish Intensive Course
  • Living with a host family
Cons
  • The on-boarding before getting to Seville took many hours to do
  • I did not get my passport back from the program until a week before I left for Seville, due passports not being sent out to embassies for visas until October 15th
  • We had to pay for a changeable flight ticket (incurred extra costs from delay of passport)

It was awesome

The CIEE staff were friendly and supportive and ready to answer any questions I had about Yucatan during my time there. I would highly recommend participating in some sort of study abroad opportunity especially CIEE because they have an incredibly good and well-coordinated program. Studying abroad can be a scary thing to think about at first, but although scary it is also exciting, thrilling, and a great way to make friends, experience new cultures, and explore the world. Words can't explain the unique and life-changing experience it is to study abroad and I am glad I did:)

Pros
  • Expand you view of the world
  • Meet new people
  • Learn new languages
Cons
  • Can leave you feeling homesick
  • A new culture can easily overload someone
  • Expensive

Sevilla is the place to be with CIEE

I studied abroad in Sevilla in Spring 2023; it was the best experience of my life. Between my homestay, friends in my neighborhood, how safe I felt in the city, and the Spaniards I met along the way, this semester has changed my life. I can't imagine reliving abroad in a different place or with a different program.
I would highly recommend Sevilla to anyone who is looking to improve their Spanish. Given the fact that there is not a lot of English spoken here, you will be practicing a lot. I preferred this program over that in Madrid or Barcelona because I felt the culture to be much more Spanish with little expats.

Pros
  • A city with little English
  • Rich Culture
  • Great people

CIEE is great!!

The CIEE staff is wonderful. We got to participate in excursions with our fellow students. We were able to learn about Berlin as well as travel to other cities in Germany. I felt comfortable and safe while living in the CIEE dorms. The student life team gave us recommendations of places to visit in Berlin as well as provided us with information on events that were going on each week. I would recommend the CIEE Study Abroad program to anyone who is looking for an adventure in a new country! I enjoyed it very much.

Pros
  • Able to make friends!

CIEE study aborad Sevilla

If anyone is looking for a way to broaden their Spanish abilities while also studying in a relevant but authentic city the absolute best way to do it is through the CIEE Sevilla program. I think that this city has become my favorite out of the fifteen that I visited during my time in Europe. It has everything and more that I could have asked for, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to have an incredible and unique experience studying abroad. I can't imagine having done my study abroad semester in any other city!

Pros
  • Culturally authentic
  • Very inexpensive food, drinks, ect.
  • warm weather
Cons
  • Small airport (more expensive flights)
  • some housing is located far from the school

CIEE IBC Program

I lived with a host family who quickly integrated me into their family which i definitely appreciated. I am more of an independent person and although i lived in the home stay, i felt as though i could still be independent while learning a lot. The academics were easy to navigate and you always had support with whatever you needed. The CIEE staff was also very helpful throughout the whole thing and were always sending messages about how you could reach out and get in contact with whoever you needed to.

Pros
  • Many opportunities to travel
  • Great experience in your home area
  • Learning experience for spanish
Cons
  • Food if you’re a picky eater

Amazing experience!

Studying abroad in Barcelona with CIEE was the best decision I could have made! From the very beginning, the CIEE staff provided us with all the information and support we needed to comfortably transition into our abroad experience. I was able to live in a nice apartment with five of my closest friends in a beautiful and safe neighborhood with lots of locals. CIEE also did a great job of offering tons of activities and excursions every week to encourage us to experience the local Spanish culture and cuisine. One of my most memorable experiences was the hike to Montserrat, a stunning monastery located an hour away from Barcelona.

Pros
  • Delicious food options
  • Great public transportation system
  • Very fun nightlife
Cons
  • Housing options can vary (by location and quality)
  • Safety (lots of pickpockets)

CIEE Paris Spring 2023

I studied abroad in Paris, France. My study abroad experience was definitely the best four months of my life thus far! Being able to be so independent in such a great city as Paris and travel all around Europe was a life-changing experience. Living in Paris has always been a dream of mine and I am so happy that I got to experience it. I definitely recommend studying abroad if you can! I met so many students who attend the same university as me in the US who I never would have met if I hadn't studied abroad!

Pros
  • Travel
  • Culture
  • Language
Cons
  • Expensive
