Being in London was awesome, CIEE does a great job with making academics important but giving you time to have fun and travel. People in the program were awesome, made lots of lifetime friends and memories. If given the opportunity you have to go.
You only have class 3 days a week; two classes each day for 2.5 hours each. Nice thing about London is that travel to other parts of Wurope is pretty easy and you have plenty of options. Only thing about London that kind of sucks is that it takes a long time to get to the airports and the city itself is kind of expense.
Pros
Great location to travel to rest of Europe
Academics are great, not too hard by any menas
Awesome support from CIEE
Cons
Housing is small and hot (no AC) but that’s just London and Europe in general
I spent an incredible 5 months with this program, and experienced so much of Jordan that I never would have without their excellent, hardworking staff. They make sure to expose you to as much local culture as possible, and work within your Arabic abilities, whatever they are. I especially recommend staying with a homestay--they have a solid network of extremely friendly, hospitable families for you to stay with. Many people ask me if it's safe, and I always say: much safer than the U.S.! People in Jordan are more welcoming than you'd believe, and the CIEE staff will make sure you get out and experience that welcoming. Trips to Petra, Wadi Rum, Ajloun--it's all included, and anywhere else you want to visit, you'll have support.
The CIEE building was located in an amazing part of Berlin with easy transportation around the city. Resources provided by the program were beyond helpful and aided in making the integration into the city as easy as possible. Berlin is a notably easy city to integrate into even without speaking any German. The transportation system and structure of the course made it incredibly easy to travel around the country with plenty of time to get back in time for class or internships. Internships were relevant to student's careers and were a great resume booster.
Amsterdam was the perfect place to study abroad for the summer! CIEE handled all aspects of our stay wonderfully. My housing option was conveniently central and close to where our classes were. We were offered plenty of support, and despite never having to use it, I was aware of where to go if needed. The city was extremely safe and walkable, which made it easy to explore with friends regardless of the time of day. Lastly, the academics that were offered boasted a great range of topics and class sizes, and instructors were passionate about their chosen class topics.
Pros
Walkable City
English speaker friendly
Friendly people
Cons
Temperamental weather
Student housing options were far away from each other
My internship experience in Singapore was nothing short of extraordinary. The helpful and welcoming staff, engaging events, and the chance to meet incredible people all contributed to an enriching and enjoyable journey. Beyond the fun and adventure, the internship provided invaluable professional growth and learning opportunities, equipping me with skills that will serve me well in my future endeavors. As I bid farewell to this captivating city, I carry with me a treasure trove of memories that I will cherish forever. Singapore has left an indelible mark on my heart, and I am grateful for the fantastic experience it has offered me.
Studying abroad has changed my life in such a positive direction
Aug 4, 2023
Studying abroad in Barcelona not only fulfilled a life long dream of mine, but I will cherish every moment the program and this entire experience has granted to me. I enjoyed meeting other students, going on excursions, and fulfilling some monuments on my bucket list. This was such an amazing trip and I hope to be back soon! I would definitely recommend to apply through CIEE. The CIEE team in Barcelona was so helpful to me during my time abroad. They were quick to respond to any concerns I had, offered us reviews on local places, and strived to make our time here the best experience.
Pros
Diversity of food
Convenient public transportation
Many events, monuments, and historical sites to experience. You will always find something to do!
Interning in South Africa has been an amazing experience. jean and joe (the current supervisors of the global internship were amazing). The people, the diversity, the natural beauty --- everything has been wonderrful. It is such a more meaningful experience then you would find in Europe. Cape Town is a wealth divided city with a beautiful history, a million and one activities to do, and people who are just so kind. Living and working in Japan is a fantastic experience, and I'd encourage anyone even marginally interested in the culture to go. The length of time that you're there really lets you experience the culture more in the way that a local would as opposed to a tourist, which is a lot of fun. The hotel we stayed in was decent, the rooms were a bit small but you get used to it. My experience with the company I was interning for was great, the supervisors and people worked with me to help me learn and get my work done, all in all a fantastic experience. Would recommend.
I participated in this program as an Animation and Computer science major. I appreciated that I was placed in an internship where I was able to grow my animation skills. It was nice to be familiarized with the public transportation system during orientation week. I also liked the opportunities to network and connect with other students.
It is important to research places such as laundry or dry cleaning, cash withdrawal, and currency exchange. I would recommend searching for places you want to see beforehand and taking advantage of weekends and the period before your internship starts to visit attractions.
CIEE Monteverde Summer Study Abroad: Student Review
Aug 2, 2023
CIEE Monteverde was a fantastic study abroad experience. Costa Rica is one of the best places to study sustainability and the environment, which is what my program was focused on. Throughout my six weeks, I was able to learn about current environmental problems on a global and local scale and spend time on field trips learning from Costa Ricans who run local sustainable farms, wastewater treatment facilities, and more. The CIEE Monteverde campus is beautiful and spacious with great food and housing, located in the Monteverde Cloud Forest region, and fostered community between the other college students in my program, as well as the staff. The program paid for many excursions, like trips to El Tigre Waterfalls and Herradura Beach, and there was still plenty of opportunity for us to take our own trips as students. Monteverde is also home to plenty of amazing zip lines, protected rainforests for hiking, night tours, a butterfly garden, a sloth sanctuary, and more.
Pros
Experiencing the rich biodiversity of Costa Rica and learning about conservation efforts
Free trips to beautiful locations in Costa Rica
Connecting with other college students from around the world
Cons
Remote location (can sometimes feel isolating, but not always!)
Repetitive food options (you might get tired of rice and beans)
