Granada Spain

This program was so much fun. I really enjoyed the city of granada, but I wish I was able to experience real college here. The clm was very helpful, but it seems much more like high school with a small amount of rooms and professors and classes with all the same people. I wish we had more time in this city! However, the program was worth everything, I recommend the intensive month for sure! It was so much more informative than the course classes here, and I recommend doing the intensive month if you can instead!

What would you improve about this program?
More excursions in spain, less small cultural activities and larger activities would be more beneficial.

SOL will give you a full experience of cultural events and information to know more about your country. You will have time to travel, you will meet people you'll remember for a lifetime.

An amazing expereince!

Studying with SOL was such an amazing experience. The staff is so supportive, the city is so fun, and living with a host family was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Living with a family is not only an amazing way to practice your spanish, but it is an opportunity to try the best food ever. The excursions with SOL were also great because they include all the things you actually want to do in Granada! I highly recomend this program!

Review

Both of my teacher and my host mom does not speak English, which was kind of painful but was really helpful. The teachers there were nice and patient. They understand that students have severe language barriers so they tried to explain in different ways in Spanish to make sure we understand it.

The directors of Sol also arranged a variety of cultural trips around the city, outside of the city and even outside of the country. One of the directors graduated with a tourism degree. So through him and the other guides we had, I now know a lot about the culture and history of Argentina!

Great experience! The program directors did an awesome job planning our trip and I enjoyed every moment! I really enjoyed the opportunity to participate in service projects in-country. Raúl, Beatriz, and Kevin did a great job making sure we had a fun time and got to experience the country. Traveling with Sol was a fantastic introduction to international travel and I look forward to my next trip abroad.

Costa Rica: A life changing experience

I have absolutely loved my experience in Costa Rica!! The people and culture have been wonderful and the scenery and wildlife are incredible. The education I received was amazing. I have learned so much in the three months I was here. Before this program I was really scared to speak up in class and try talk to people in Spanish. I feel so comfortable now having conversations with and learning and understanding from native speakers. I think this program has made greatly prepared me to graduate with a Spanish major and to speak Spanish more comfortably in the workplace and beyond. I felt like the educators, directors, and the Tico family I lived with really cared about my health and well-being. They were always kind and willing to help with anything I needed. I have made so many wonderful memories in the time I was here. I went on this trip with new people and have come out with lifetime friends. The experiences learning and exploring the countryside, cities, beaches, mountains, volcanoes and all of the other amazing places Costa Rica has to offer will stick with me for the rest of my life. This trip has changed my life for the better, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Spanish.

I honestly had the most wonderful experience in Costa Rica. My host family was great. I loved working with the children and mothers at La Posada de Belen. And the cultural activities were wonderful I wouldn't change a single thing about my adventure in Costa Rica. I know that there were a few groups that had bad experiences with host family so maybe go into detail with the Host families about what they are expected to do when they take in and international student.

What I loved!

I loved my host family and wish that everyone could stay there. They were so welcoming and ready to learn more about my own culture. The best was probably going and not being just a tourist but being a traveler. I loved when we went to the hot springs and stayed at the hotel it was so beautiful. I wish that we could have stayed at the hotel at least another day to have more relaxation time. Overall my experience was great and would totally do it again.

What would you improve about this program?
I wish I had more free time to go exploring on my own or with my host family.

Buenos Aires

I traveled to BA with SOL after studying abroad in Costa Rica and Oaxaca. I loved the city of Buenos Aires. I liked the porteños, also. I enjoyed Academia Buenos Aires more than the universities in Costa Rica and Oaxaca. They have a teaching style that is very effective and unmatched by the other universities including my home university. I was there for an intense 2 week course and that is probably the reason that I didn't get to see much of the city other than what I saw while walking to and from school. I felt safe in BA even at night with the exception of a cultural dinner that was held in the same area and at the same time that an anti-U. S. protest was taking place. I was surprised that the event was not cancelled after the State Department issued a warning. I look forward to returning to BA someday for vacation. I felt that the cultural excursions could use an upgrade. They did not measure up to the ones in Costa Rica and Oaxaca.

What would you improve about this program?
I think a stronger effort should be made to provide cultural activities and historical sites for the students. A museum in honor of Argentina's own son, El "Che" Guevara would be nice. He is a very important historical icon in Cuba. Also, in Costa Rica and Oaxaca, the SOL staff would communicate with the students daily to make sure everything is going okay and they would meet the students at the school and go together for the excursions. The BA program can be greatly improved by doing the same. The subway system in BA is complicated and a staff member should go with the students to get their card and show them how it works....not tell them and send them out alone. Other than those things, it's a great program!

If you're studying abroad, do it with SOL in Buenos Aires

The Spanish immersion program through SOL Education in Buenos Aires, Argentina is hands-down the best experience I've had in my undergraduate career. The city is amazing with lots of things to do during the day and at night, the classes are very welcoming and really help with learning the language, and the staff (Raul, Kevin, and Beatriz) is top notch in providing a meaningful experience to every student. You are never bored as there is always either an activity planned or things that you can do that they recommend. The host families are also very welcoming as well and really make you feel like you are a true porteño!
