40 días

Bueno...el viaje fue largo. Vine sabiendo nada de chino. Absolutamente nada.

Well... the trip was long. I arrived knowing absolutely no Chinese. Nothing at all. After finishing, I feel I can communicate in a basic way and understand simple questions. Communicating is obviously a challenge I still haven't overcome, and getting around Chengdu wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Thanks to my teacher, the friends I made during my stay, and the support I received from my homestay. It has been a very rewarding experience. But, it's so far away. I chose Chengdu because of the price; I didn't even know it was there.

A Month That Greatly Influenced My Life

I spent four weeks at LTL Beijing in the group classes. Since I’m considering studying Chinese in China for a year next year, I wanted to experience daily life in China and what it’s like to study in a Chinese language classroom. In the end, I gained far more than I expected.

First of all, our teacher Tara was truly outstanding. She has the ability to explain grammar and vocabulary perfectly in English. She was also someone I could really rely on — she even helped me buy a smartphone in China. I really admire Tara’s intelligence, as well as her natural and friendly personality.

My classmates were also amazing. All of them were far more capable than I was, and I was inspired not only by their attitude toward learning but also by their perspectives on life. LTL Beijing may be a bit expensive, but it attracts people who are absolutely worth the investment. It even made me feel like coming back to LTL next year instead of attending a Chinese university!

Thank you so much for the four wonderful weeks.

3 Weeks at LTL Shanghaï

The past three weeks in Shanghaï have been wonderful! The group class together with the one on one class provided the ideal format to improve my Chinese. Each of my three teachers - Jamie, Anne and Katniss have contributed to making this a great experience! My homestay organized by LTL also proved to be beyond my expectations. I enjoyed freshly cooked home made meals every day aswel as assistance and advice on various matters related to living in Shanghaï. I look forward to returning to LTL as soon as possible to pursue my Chinese language journey.

Pros
  • Conducive learning environment
  • Qualified teachers

LOVED my experience!

I can’t recommend Shanghai LTL enough. From start to finish, the staff and teachers made my time in Shanghai unforgettable and helped me make incredible progress with my Mandarin.

I first found LTL through a Google search and was initially unsure if it was legitimate, but those worries quickly disappeared. Mojca, the student director, was warm and welcoming from the start, helping me arrange all the details and answering my many logistical questions with patience and reassurance. Alex, the school director, was also very supportive, even allowing me to adjust my one-on-one hours and save the rest for future online classes.

Additionally, enough cannot be said about my teachers. In just six weeks, I learned more than I ever imagined possible:

Winnie, my group teacher, went far beyond textbook explanations. She broke down the nuances of each word, showing us how to use them naturally in daily life. I often walked out of class able to immediately apply what I’d learned with my host family. She also genuinely cared about her students (such as checking in on us when we weren’t feeling well and offering to help) and made class fun and engaging. I looked forward to every lesson with her.

QinQin, my other group teacher, was incredibly sweet and effective. She taught with such clarity that I left every class confident in new grammar structures and vocabulary. She always came prepared with extra notes and resources, and even gifted me a book she had written herself. Her thoughtfulness and dedication made a huge impact on my learning.

Katniss, my one-on-one teacher, was equally amazing. She tailored our lessons to my personal goals, focusing on speaking and real-life conversations rather than just reading. Thanks to her, I learned practical language for complex discussions with my family - the exact reason I wanted to study Mandarin in the first place.

All three teachers were patient, knowledgeable, and inspiring. They pushed me to improve while also making class a joy. Because of them, I now feel far more confident in my speaking abilities and can’t wait to use my Mandarin with my extended family.

Beyond the language, LTL gave me an incredible community. I made wonderful friends, learned about Chinese culture, and fell in love with Shanghai.
If you’re looking for a welcoming school with excellent teachers and staff, LTL is the place. Thank you to everyone who made this experience truly unforgettable.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I tried eating snake for the first time with my host family!

  • Nice staff

Beihai recommended!

I had a great experience at LTL Beihai - the city is great for Chinese immersion as there are very few foreigners. And the city has great weather, a laid back vibe yet has all the amenities. My teacher was great and very flexibly adjusted to my needs. I already have a somewhat substantial level, so being able to work on communication was great. The School is small so has a very familial feel and the staff is willing to help out with anything they can. Travel to Weizhou and Guilin while you are there!

Fantastic environment

I have joined a 1-month intensive program at LTL with half day in a small group class and another 2 hours one-on-one in the afternoon every day. The school has not only offered a cozy study environment but has also organized different activities. Thanks to the staff and teachers who are super friendly and are always ready to help and particularly to Jennifer, my teacher who has been so patient and engaging. I had a fantastic time and hope to be back soon. If anyone plans to study Korean regardless what level you are in, I strongly recommend LTL as there will be a class suitable for you.

Best way to learn Mandarin in the heart of Taipei!

LTL Taiwan really amplified my Mandarin in ways I did not think was possible! They have an unique combination or teaching and activities to make sure the students get the best welcome possible!

I am so grateful and glad that I choose this school and location out of all the different choices. They made me feel so welcome and their teachers are very skilled with their own teaching style.

Thank you Peichen, Tammy, MeiYing and Rhiona and Ailin!

I really recommended you to choose this school and Taipei if you want up study mandarin!

Great teacher, school and location. Strongly recommend!

I had an amazing time at the LTL school in Chengdu. In two weeks I was able to learn so much more than I expected! My teacher (Unicorn) made the lessons interesting, kept a very good pace and adjusted the lessons to my preferences as well. I really appreciate the flexibility, because it's not always easy to adopt to the style of the student.

We also had a lot of after school activities with the teachers and the others students.

I personally love the location, because Chengdu is much more immersive than the other big cities, and Sichuan people are famously easy to make friends with.

What was your funniest moment?
Went on a trip to the country side for a few days to the Tibetan areas. Was sitting in a temple during the ceremony, where a 2yo kid would repeatedly come over to me, wave at me and when I waved back, she ran excitedly to her grandma. Then she shared some candy with me, so I gave her chocolate in return. We ended up making around 10 such deals, after each of which she came giggling and boasting to her grandma about her mad hustle skills.
Pros
  • Location is great for immersion: Less foreigners and locals the most approachable in China and won't switch to English.
  • Teacher was great, adapted to my style and preferences.
  • Cost of living is much lower than Beijing & Shanghai.
Cons
  • Most famous local dishes are very spicy. If you don't like spicy food, you'll have to stick with cuisine from other regions. (I personally love it. Best food in China.)

Great!!!

I absolutely loved LTL Mandarin School in Shanghai. It’s been a perfect blend of solid lessons, fun after‑class activities, and a vibrant community. The classroom sessions are engaging and well‑structured, and the extracurricular events give us plenty of chances to practice what we’ve learned while meeting classmates from all over the world.

Coffee breaks are a highlight too; chatting with people from every corner of the globe over a good cup of coffee makes the whole experience feel like a little international festival every day.

The teachers really make the difference. Kristen and Jason are outstanding, always prepared, enthusiastic, and full of practical tips that help us survive and thrive in China. Their advice goes beyond the textbook, giving us real‑world insights that you can’t find elsewhere.

Overall, the school offers a wonderful mix of education, culture, and community. If you’re looking for a place where you can learn Chinese while having a great time and making friends worldwide, this is the spot. Highly recommended!
