Great teaching at Silk Mandarin

I passed my HSK1 exam in around 2 months (2mornings /week) with teacher Jane. It was great, this school provide a platform with a set of videos and interactive exercises to do online before and after the classes, it is like having extra hours of lessons included in the program, it really helps. And during the classe we do a lot of practice, I really enjoy the way Jane teaches me Chinese. I addition the school organises a lot of events, lunches... To meet the other students, it feels like a family :)

Silk Mandarin is the best school

I fell in love with Silk Mandarin since my first contact with Coco who is in charge of communication with the students. I found how professional they are and how seriously they take the goal of teaching and helping students to learn. I was amazed by the way they use the blended learning materials which can help so much with self-learning. I did the level 3 one-on-one class online learning with teacher Yanqin. She is so knowledgeable, experienced, professional, and very helpful. Going to class was always super fun. She uses a good mix of grammar, vocabulary, and conversational skills. So far, I feel my Chinese is improving a lot.

I would recommend this course and teacher Yanqin to any Chinese learner. Thanks a lot, Silk Mandarin!

Study with Silk Mandarin!

Learning Chinese as a foreigner can feel daunting, but Silk Mandarin made the journey enjoyable, effective, and incredibly rewarding! I cannot recommend them enough, especially for their outstanding teachers and super helpful blended learning system.

The teachers at Silk Mandarin are truly one of a kind. My instructor was not only adept in English (which I found very helpful), but also deeply knowledgeable about Chinese language and culture. My teacher had a knack for breaking down complex grammar and tones into digestible, easy-to-understand lessons. Their patience, encouragement, and personalized feedback helped me progress faster than I ever thought possible. Every class felt engaging and tailored to my learning style, which made a huge difference in my confidence and fluency.

Already done HSK 1 - HSK 2, here we come!

I strongly recommend Silk Mandarin Suzhou!

I’ve been traveling to China for work since 2019, and although I primarily use English in meetings, I’ve often felt that it would be beneficial to understand at least some Chinese. Language is key to understanding a culture’s mindset, and by learning it, I can build stronger and better relationships.

I started online lessons in Europe to gain some familiarity before arriving, and now I’m taking classes twice a week at Silk Mandarin. I can really feel my progress—it’s boosting my learning!

From the beginning, Miss Mia provided excellent support, not only giving clear information about the course but also offering useful tips about the life in China, making everything smooth and stress-free. The classes are truly challenging, but I’ve been having a lot of fun. Teacher Evelyn is fantastic—she teaches very well and goes beyond the classroom, helping with everyday matters like shopping on Chinese websites and navigating daily life in Suzhou.

I just felt that there was a lack of information on how to rent a place. My husband and I faced some challenges with it, so maybe in the future, Silk Mandarin could establish partnerships with real estate agencies. That would definitely help foreigners like us.

I suggest that the school offer more extracurricular activities to help foreigners better understand Chinese history and culture. For example, weekend workshops on cooking traditional Chinese dishes like dumplings, experiencing a traditional tea ceremony, exploring the history and art of Hanzi, or practicing Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong. It would also be great to have fun sessions for popular Chinese sports like ping-pong and badminton.

If I were to do this again in the future, I would choose the same course. I might even add one more day, making it three times a week—but no more than that. Having free time to study has been essential for me to absorb what I’ve learned. Since I also need time to work, I found that taking classes two or three times a week is the best balance for me.

The Silk Mandarin team is truly amazing! A special thanks to Mia and Evelyn—these girls are incredible!

Beyond the language learning experience, the team went above and beyond by helping my husband organize a surprise wedding ceremony for me. They were incredibly thoughtful, paying attention to every detail and making our time in China even more special and unforgettable.

If you want to learn Chinese you absolutely must come here

I’ve been coming to China for work since 2007 but never had the chance to learn the language, which I felt ashamed of. Last year, I finally decided to start, first in Europe and now at Silk Mandarin. I chose the intensive course, and it’s truly boosting my learning!

Before arriving, Miss Mia provided excellent support, making everything clear and stress-free. The classes are challenging but fun, thanks to Evelyn LaoShi’s patience and teaching style. My only suggestion would be for the school to offer better support in finding accommodations, as securing a reasonable apartment in Suzhou was quite difficult.

I highly recommend Silk Mandarin!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I come to make it again in the future I would not choose the intensive course. It's quite good if you are here just for studying but is quite hard if you still need to work after the classes
Pros
  • Amazing team and support. Mia and Evelyn are amazing. All the team is very good
  • The team is so fantastic that that helped me to got married in China
Cons
  • The school should have a better service for finding accommodation in Suzhou.

Perfect Place to start Mandarin if you're serious

I've chosen Silk Mandarin to start my Mandarin classes - visited other Mandarin academies in Shanghai as a trial but ended up here because of its curriculum and proactiveness in teaching. The teachers are very true to the ways of teaching and quick to respond to feedback. Also I needed someone who can give honest feedback and not be a soft teacher. I really wanted to enhance my speaking, and to do that basic tones for Mandarin was something i couldn't manage on my own. Jane Wu, my teacher, helped me from the start to sharpen the edges for my tones and speaking with repeated consultation. She is resilient and ever willing to help out on whatever roadblocks that there is in understanding the complicated nature of Mandarin language!

Very satisfied with Silk Mandarin

Before joining Silk Mandarin, I had tried learning Chinese on my own multiple times, but each attempt left me feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the language. Memorizing characters seemed daunting, and without a clear, structured approach, it quickly became discouraging. Pronunciation was another challenge. Some sounds felt impossible to master, and not getting the tones right was frustrating. Every time, it seemed like I wasn't making any real progress.

I discovered Silk Mandarin while searching for Chinese classes for my son. From the start, I could tell that Silk Mandarin was very serious about their approach, so I decided to take lessons for myself. Given my busy schedule balancing work and home life, I was initially concerned about committing to lessons. However, I really appreciated their flexibility. Silk Mandarin offers tailored plans to fit your needs and schedule, and having one-to-one online classes during my lunch break has been the perfect solution.

Consistency is essential when learning Chinese, and regular lessons with Jane have kept me on track. I began with HSK 2 and am now studying HSK 4, a progress I couldn't have achieved without Jane's support. She’s incredibly patient and always encouraging. Chinese grammar is quite different from Western languages, and I’m grateful that Jane is always available to clarify tricky grammar points.

I also like that lessons often incorporate cultural elements. Silk Mandarin regularly organizes cultural activities and shares cultural information in their WeChat.

I wholeheartedly recommend Silk Mandarin and their teachers. Their personalized approach and commitment to student success have made all the difference in my language learning journey.

Silk Mandarin is really great!

I am pretty much what you would call a hopeless case when it comes to learning new languages, but SilkMandarin has challenged that notion. Their methodology and classes are distinctive from any other centres I've attended - structured, easy to follow, and fun. I find it quite easy to retain a lot of Mandarin words, something that I used to struggle with all the time prior, due to their unique but effective style of teaching. The staff are friendly and helpful, and Evelyn is an amazing teacher whose classes are fun and engaging, with a perfect balance of challenge and encouragement.
