This was my first time joining this two-week summer camp, and I had a truly wonderful and enriching experience. I came in with the hope of improving my Chinese language skills and left not only with more confidence in speaking but also with great memories, new friends, and a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture.
The classroom experience was one of the highlights of the program. The teacher was very supportive, friendly, and always willing to help. This made the learning environment feel relaxed yet effective. Even though learning a new language can sometimes be intimidating, the teacher's approach made it fun and approachable. The classes were well-structured and focused on practical communication skills, which helped me improve my Chinese in just a short time. I noticed real progress, especially in listening and speaking.
In the afternoons, we participated in a wide variety of cultural activities. These included exploring famous landmarks, playing traditional games like mahjong, and experiencing local food. These activities weren’t just fun—they also provided the chance to use Chinese in real-life situations. For example, ordering food at local restaurants or asking for directions gave us the opportunity to apply what we learned in class in a natural setting. This hands-on practice helped me gain more confidence and made the learning process feel much more meaningful.
Another great aspect of the camp was the opportunity to immerse ourselves in Chinese culture. From visiting historical sites to learning about daily life traditions, I felt that I gained a deeper cultural understanding beyond just the language. This cultural exposure is something you can’t easily get from textbooks or online classes.
That said, like any program, there are a few areas that could be improved. The schedule was quite packed, so there wasn’t a lot of downtime for rest or personal exploration. Some students, especially beginners, may also find it challenging to keep up if the group includes people with mixed skill levels. In a few cases, I wished there was more support in English for instructions or clarification during activities. While the camp was well-organized overall, the pace and intensity might not suit everyone.
Despite these minor challenges, I would still highly recommend this camp to anyone who is interested in learning Chinese and experiencing the culture firsthand. Whether you're a beginner or someone looking to improve your existing skills, this camp offers a unique blend of language learning and cultural immersion that is both fun and effective.
I came in not knowing what to expect, and I’m leaving with improved language skills, greater confidence, and memories I’ll cherish. This camp is a great choice for anyone looking to learn, grow, and explore—all while having a great time.
