The only thing that matters

The only thing you need to know about Meiji Internships is that they are a legit company. If you are a skeptical person and don't know anyone that's ever needed to do an internship abroad, then we're the same and you're probably wondering whether you can trust these type of services you can find online. I took the risk for you guys and luckily yes they are more than real and the people there are responsive and friendly as they can be. All in all it's a good service and they deliver as promised. In my case, I had 3 interviews because one of the fields I applied to was a bit tricky and my skillset didn't quite match what companies expected (therefore they couldn't teach me the skills I was looking for) but then I went for a bit of a different field and it was easy to get into a company and ended up learning more than I initially expected. Props to Meiji for the patience and perseverance in my case.

1001 Cyberpunk Adventures in Seoul

In short 3 months in Seoul were NOT ENOUGH! My internship experience was simply amazing! From the start to the finish Meiji did a great job on assisting me throughout this adventure. Initially I was worried that I might not be accepted into their program as it is unfortunately exclusive, meaning their screening process and the initial consultation video call I had with them first time seems to decide who they accept and who not. However I quickly learned that this process is essential in maintaining the high quality of their internship program and also ensuring that the applicant's expectations are met. My internship consultant was super friendly and we had a very intense talk about my interests, motivations behind applying for this program and also my motivations.
The biggest advice I can give is make a good impression, show that you are interested in going to Asia and also prepare your resume properly (I missed out on the last one myself haha).
Once the process was sorted out and the deposit paid they matched me with an amazing digital marketing company in Seoul. As I was one of their first interns, we both were a bit excited and nervous how it would turn out. It's understated to say Korea was a culture shock, if not a colorful and super neon light shining culture bomb that I tried to fully immerse in! From the bustling night markets, 24/7 parties, drinking, BBQ, Karaoke and all the other fun things. Koreans and Korea treated me really well!
From my internship the workload steadily increased but my host company made sure to always help me out if I didn't understand something. I was involved in two big advertisement projects for Korean fashion companies and also helped out with designing an online advertising campaign.
All in all a great experience and I would do it all over again and again and again... kkkkk

Straight to my CV

A lot of us are happy that most things are back open and we can do outdoorsy stuff with our friends. In order to do that though, I needed an internship that let me work from basically anywhere and anytime. I found Meiji and applied for an online internship in a Korean company, and that's pretty much it! Worked from home, hotels, cafes and even in public transport if I wanted to finish my tasks earlier and have more extra time to spend with my people. It's been a literal breath of fresh air and I strongly recommend this type of program if you prioritize being free to do whatever you want during the week and being in charge of your own schedule. From the companies they showed me, I can tell they are quality businesses and I never had a problem with my host company. They were the most welcoming people and at this point are very comfortable teaching you all you need to know to get going and start putting out quality content (I'm a designer) that meets their standards. I met a lot of people there and I keep especial contact with some that became my friends.

Virtual Internship @ Korean Company

The good thing about Meiji Internships is that the attention is extremely personalized, even when I felt like I was being too annoying they would just keep showing me different options and answering all my questions. At first I thought they only had connections with companies in Japan, but after they told me they had some good options for me in Korea I was sold. I never ran into any problems during my internship and I have to say even though I was doing fine and completing my tasks on time, the people at Meiji Internships would reach out to me every so often to check on my progress and to see if they could assist me in any way. I got in a tourism company so I had to be in touch with a lot of people (both coworkers and clients) so the environment was very dynamic and never got boring. Would recommend to anyone looking for an Asian company to intern at.

some thoughts on my online internship

My virtual internship program ended some weeks ago now and I often think of the huge amount of work and progress that I made during those months. Nowadays I'm mostly doing uni paperwork and relaxing, as I intended to take a gap year and taking things slower really puts into perspective how motivated I was in the first place to work online. I guess what I would like people to know is that online internships can be just as demanding and nourishing as in-person internship programs. I feel like more people should try to see the brighter side of the current situation and take advantage of international internship providers that can place you in a company in any country you want and also in pretty much any field you can think of. I don't see reasons to not do your mandatory internship from home and put that international experience in your CV. I'm the only student in my class who did this and also one of the few that already have a couple of job offers. The only downside is that it would be very bold of me to reject those offers so I won't be taking that gap year I wanted (although that's like the best problem one could have). Cheers Meiji, 5/5 program as well as an affordable option to make your CV stand out

Loved this program!

I did two virtual internships, and both were amazing. I did one for a South Korean company and one for a Japanese company. I could never have found these internships on my own, and the experience and knowledge I gained from them are priceless. I learned so much, and I really enjoyed my time learning and growing. Meiji was also very quick to respond to emails and questions. I was always happily surprised at how quickly they got back to me. They also found great companies that give you hands-on experience. If you're looking for internships overseas, I would recommend them. They are really helpful and can find a perfect internship for you.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The first interviews were a little nerve-racking, but after meeting everyone I wasn't so nervous. Everyone is so kind and genuinely wants to help you gain experience and learn.

Seoul is the real deal

Long story short: Meiji Internships made it super simple for me to get to South Korea and now I kind of just wish my mandatory internship for university had to be longer. Personally, I was ready to not get too picky when settling for a company, the fact that I was going to end up in a Korean company was good enough for me, but turns out Meiji Internships connected me to an amazing host company.
When I got there the first day, I was assigned a supervisor who would give me tasks both on a daily and weekly basis and who would also teach me how to use different software and give me useful feedback. The offices were clean and modern, and my schedule allowed me to work without getting burnt out, as well as having more than enough time at the end of the day to go out and explore Seoul (and yes, it is as amazing as you’d imagine).

Good Value

Finished my virtual internship in December and I have to say that the program is a good value, mostly because it's university-accredited and left me plenty of time to do other things, as I could work whenever I had the chance. I had planned to do my mandatory internship somewhere in asia but given the circumstances I'd rather do it this way and just keep saving up some money to go on a longer trip (that I will actually enjoy instead of just having to work all day) later this year.
The people at Meiji seem to be really nice and are willing to help and check on your progress basically 24/7 and the host company was everything I could've wished for: very professional, welcoming and communicative

Marketing

3 months (virtually) in Saigon was an eye opener! I worked for a local start-up and did all their marketing and public relations tasks in English. The whole process worked out quite smoothly from the start as Meiji Internships insured the communication to work well. I was trying to address my concerns and what I wanted to get out of my internship during my initial consultation call with Meiji. They showed a lot of understanding for my needs, but also been very honest to me with what I can expect in the actual internship. I really appreciated their honesty and also not trying to awaken wrong expectations, especially for a sophomore student with almost non-related prior work experience.

The biggest advice I can give all future interns is not to demand too many things during your initial interview call with the host company. Show that you are eager and hungry to learn something new and to challenge yourself without making conditions. It was difficult for me first to accept this fact but being open minded and embracing the new without making any demands played out to be the best approach in the long term. My modest approach was highly appreciated by my Vietnamese boss and I landed a paid internship with them for Summer next year. Looking forward to explore Vietnam as soon as this whole pandemic is hopefully over. Shoot out to Farina and the amazing staff at Meiji! You rock!!

Amaaaaazing!!!

I did a Virtual Internship with Meiji, which was really amazing! I learned a lot and my host company always helped me, whenever I struggled with a new task. My team was nice and supportive throughout the internship. I did this internship as part of my studies and it was easy to get it accredited at my university. I also recommended my friend to apply and he also found an internship quickly. If you are looking for a program that allows you to work abroad but from home, this is the best program. Thank you Meiji!
