TEFL

This course has helped me become much more confident in my english skills, along with teaching me how to be a teacher. I have learnt a lot from this course and my assignments were always marked very quickly, meaning I could progress through the course with no issues. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone wanting to get their TEFL qualification. I am hoping to travel abroad and teach english now that I have completed my 120 hour premier online course, which is something I have always wanted to do. It has been made possible by doing this qualification!

Review

My main issue was the website would randomly crash during a lesson and kick me back to the dashboard page. But otherwise, it was good content, well organized, and the feedback was very in depth. The grammar section was very informative, and did a good job building on the concepts as it went along. I hadn't really thought much about methodology, but that section really opened my eyes to how critical having an organized method is for a class. The course did a good job showing how methodology can make or break a class, and I am definitely going to be using all the advice in that section to plan out my lessons! I'm also glad to have been shown how online lessons work, because I want to start with those first.

What was your funniest moment?
Probably thinking up some funny ways of explaining content/ or playing games. I took an online course. I'm guessing this review page also asks about in-person programs.
Pros
  • Self-paced
  • Time to think about homework
  • Can repeat lessons
Cons
  • Website crashing
  • Not in person
  • No physical practice

Wonderful Experience

I just recently completed my 120 hour TEFL online course and just wanted to share that I felt the video content was superbly informative. I feel very confident that I have the skill set to start my journey teaching English to foreign students. I also wanted to add that my tutor, Dee, was incredible to work with. She was always accessible and kind and very encouraging. I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in broadening their skill set and monetize what they have learned at TEFL.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do not be afraid to reach out to your tutor. Mine was incredible. Also, it is a good idea to jump back and review video content even if you have successfully completed a module to keep your chops fresh!
Pros
  • Great video content
  • Challenging Assignments
  • Amazing Support
Cons
  • The written assignments could use a little more examples to clearly show what is expected
  • Some of the videos could have actually been longer

Gabby's Input

The information was straightforward and the lessons were easy to follow. Some of the written assignments were a little too much and would be better split into smaller portions. Instead of one long lesson at the end, that lesson could be split up into three smaller chunks and then the student could do the one big lesson at the end. This would help process the information and make it less nerve-wracking for people in the program. The tutor was very helpful through the entire process. Having a supporter like a tutor is the key to a program like this.

What would you improve about this program?
The pacing. Some of the lessons are a little too fast.

TEFL Course Experience

Having some experience in the classroom really made this course come to life and made me understand the course and feedback. It has already helped; and it will definitely help to excel in a teaching career. Furthermore, I wish a forum was placed under each module to make this course more interactive with instructors and students. This could create an opportunity, not only for TEFL to teach and study their students, but also for students to learn from and study other students. Thank you TEFL.org!

What would you improve about this program?
The classroom setting videos.
Pros
  • Hands on approach to teaching
  • Telephone and/or online teaching opportunity it can open up
  • The feedback in the assignments
Cons
  • There is no limit to redo the quiz/assignent so it may force me to just choose any answer when I've given up
  • Where the answer is based on perspective, there should be room for objectivity.
  • The forums are in a separate interface. Having an interractive forum under each model would make it more interractive.

Clear and Engaging

The user experience was fantastic! I felt like I was being guided between courses, units, and modules with wonderful teachers by my side. The lessons were clear, the quizzes and assignments had a wide range and really got me thinking creatively. The tutor feedback was timely, and I felt like they were always trying to get the best out of me. Which is what a great teacher does! I feel well-equipped to teach English abroad with confidence and creativity, and I look forward to making a difference in the development and growth of students.

Exceeded my expectations!

I didn't know what to expect when I attended this classroom weekend. I was so worried I wouldn't know a lot and would be lost. I was also worried that I would be so tired from such an intensive weekend that I wouldn't absorb it all. Well, how wrong was I! The class was so well delivered, that I lost track of all time! The class tutor Asif was so engaging and knowledgeable, that attending his class was truly a pleasure. The people in my class were all so lovely and it was so great getting to know everyone and to do work exercises with them. Where ever you are in your TEFL class, this weekend course is such a great experience and it gives you a taster of being a teacher and preparing engaging material.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be nervous, everyone is in the same boat as you! Just go to the class and ask as many questions as you need to. You will come away with such a rewarding feeling.

Interactive and very interesting

This course was very hands-on and engaging. It packed a lot of learning into not a huge amount of time. Liz was an excellent teacher and inspired us all to work hard and we all learned a lot. Would reccomend to everyone. The days were long but passed quickly because the learning was so fast paced. It never dragged and the time flew by. I feel now much more ready to take on the challenge of stepping into the world of teaching English abroad. Definitely glad I did this course and once again, wLuke reccomend to all

Friendly, Fun, Full-on weekend

There was a LOT of information over the two long days (11 and 9 hours) but the tutor (Liz) was really easy-going, friendly relaxed and put everyone at ease.

She delivered the course effortlessly, kept all 15 of us engaged at all times (no mean feat), offered encouragement and fantastic feedback on teaching practice, explained concepts clearly and gave an amazing amount of background information. Her depth of knowledge of language is impressive. From break-time translations of Chaucer to a full 45 minute foreign language lesson in Japanese, her knowledge was impressive.

The course included games, two sessions of teaching practice, explanations of concepts, classroom management, everything we could possibly need to know.

I left at the end of the weekend, exhausted but enthused and confident, ready to finish my online coursework and start my new career.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I thought standing in front of a group of native English speakers, teaching them how to speak English, would be odd and I admit to being nervous before I arrived on the course. I needn’t have worried. Liz put everyone at ease and we were all in the same situation. We had a fantastic group who were all really supportive and we worked through it as a team.
