Excellent

I was very pleased with the 2 day weekend course. Before arrival i was really anxious and worried that the 20 hours would drag. The time just flew and i really felt confident by the end that i too can deliver a class. The trainer delivered the class really well, and getting all of us involved, providing real life examples and experiences. He was very open to questions, and took out time from his break to speak with us if we needed to ask him something. He gave us advice on how to start a class. I was interested in online teaching. He advised me on how to go about it and the things that i would need. Also advised us on how to apply for the jobs online. I would definitely recommend this course to others as i am sure that they would get the most out of this as i have done.

What was your funniest moment?
When we had to go into character mode. It was funny but also hard as its difficult to pretend you can't understand English, and how much do you pretend, when is it ok to show that you understand

David's TEFL Course - London

David is a lovely guy, he clearly knows his stuff and is confident in getting it across to everyone in the class. He made a very long course very enjoyable! He went through everything clearly, allowing us to take it all in, and all the activities and presentations he used were useful and well thought out. I thought he did a great job in getting so much across in such a short space of time. He put everyone at ease which is important when you are spending 20 hours in a room with the same people.

The facilities were very good too, plenty of tea/coffee/water, apples and cushions etc

Overall a useful course

The weekend was great for summarising all the important learning points from the online course, and gave us an opportunity to practice carrying out two real life tefl lessons with constructive feedback. Carl was great and made the weekend a lot more interesting than I expected. Would recommend for anyone planning on using Tefl to teach abroad. Carl was also able to give valuable travel advice about teaching in countries all over the world, and the advantages and disadvantages of different countries. also a great way to meet other like minded people and discuss travel plans and experiences. Carl also gave us the opportunity to share contact details with each other so that we could stay in contact. Overall a very well ran course, would highly recommend.

A great introduction to TEFL and the realities of teaching abroad

I was about a quarter of my way through my online TEFL course when I took my weekend course. I was hoping the class would answer some of my concerns about walking into a room and simply teaching in English. The use of a 'guinea-pig' lesson in German really helped me to understand how to be confident and use hand gestures and positivity to create a fun lesson in a foreign language. The whole weekend left me feeling a lot more motivated and ready to start the next stage of my studies. It was very beneficial to hear about the teacher's own experiences teaching abroad, it really emphasised the variety of opportunities available as a TEFL teacher. Being tasked with teaching our own five-minute lesson was a really great way to put into practise what we had learnt so far. I am definitely glad that I took the weekend course as well as my online studies!

What would you improve about this program?
I think it is really helpful to meet others studying on the TEFL course. It would be great to have more opportunities to meet fellow students. Perhaps the organisation could run some social events to meet others in your area who are about to embark on the same adventure!

Invaluable learning experience

I did my course in Belfast with Carl and I really enjoyed it. You can study all the theory you like but when faced with a mock classroom situation that all goes out the window quick smart ! Carl showed us how to structure the theory and bring it to life as a lesson plan. We got endless useful tips and exercises to use as well as presentation pointers. Most importantly he gave us the confidence to apply our knowledge and improve without being daunted by the prospect. Carl was vastly experienced and a mine of information which he happily shared , he was also mindful of each individual in the group and there was something for everyone. I was with a delightful group of young folk ( I was of a much older vintage ) and I can only say it was very worthwhile , relaxing and fun - a must for anyone wanting to teach either home or abroad.

What would you improve about this program?
I cant really find fault, I had a lovely wee group and it was a memorable experience both from a learning and personal perspective

Great interactive course

David was really friendly, engaging and helpful. I enjoyed the course. We were taught many techniques that would be really good to share with any future students or teachers. We were reassured that no one knows everything and that we will learn on the job. It was also nice to mix with different people and discover other futureoptions after the course. The course wasn't too heavy and David made sure he kept it light and fun it didn't feel like work at all. We were given a booklet for reference and the option the recive the slides used in the class. We also were given many resources to aid lesson planning and also job search sites. This course for myself was a stepping stone to try volunteer before continuing my journey and doing a CELTA. This course would be helpful for anyone thinking of teaching English as a language or any teacher looking for more information and technique about engaging teaching methodology.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
It would be helpful to advice students to complete the online course first or some parts of it to aid and get the most out of the 2 day courses.

Very impressed

The tefl training weekend was excellent. Very impressed with David’s knowledge and ability. Very helpful feedback that will make me more confident in teaching abroad. Met some very interesting people and got some good ideas. Doing the course has been invaluable. I’m really pleased that I did it.

The course was at a good pace and covered a lot of ground.

The explanations were clear and there was many exercises to make it a very interactive weekend.

I’m looking forward to putting into practice.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Short lesson presentation. Simply apply what you learnt and that will help you out a lot. Now I know I can do it I’m sure I can use what I learnt to help my travels.

Great weekend course

I really enjoyed the weekend course. I left feeling confident and read to my online hours without struggling that much. I really enjoyed learning about the teaching techniques as well as practicing them.
I enjoyed the mini games played at the beginning to get us all feeling relaxed.
I liked the mini breaks through out as they were helpful.
The tutor was very friendly and approachable and kept us entertained through out the course.
The grammar aspect was good, especially the phenology as doing pronunciation was very Fun.
The group work element of the course was really fun. The engagement with course was good. It was a very interactive course through tasks and games.
The location for the course was easy to find and was a very nice area. Overall very happy.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I was surprised that I left feeling confident and reassured instead of confused by the heavy weekend work load.

Becoming more then just a teacher

I had Asif for my 20 hours and he was a wonderful teacher full of anecdotes related to teaching and the demonstrating the importance of being a teacher to student who are foreign to the English language.

He demonstrated the effectiveness how to organise a classroom, how to lesson plan and make sure that I should do right as a teacher.

Though some of his anecdotes are long winded - these at times emphasised points he trying to make.

All in all I left the classroom realising teaching is more then just making a lesson plan and see the outcome. Everything down to presentation of a teacher, their mentality among other things showed teaching, specifically for foreign students is quite a career.

Thank you TEFL and Asif hopefully these lessons can take me somewhere in the world to explore and be a role-model for youths as a teacher.

What would you improve about this program?
I wish these classrooms could be recorded so that I could re-watch and take more notes on things I have missed out on.

Very interactive and useful content

The classroom course was very interactive and action packed throughout the entire weekend! I learnt a wide range of teaching techniques and a great deal about the responsibilities of taking on a classroom of young students or adults.
During the classroom sessions, there wasn't much guidance on interview prep or the various jobs that you can apply for once graduated.
The teacher organised a range of activities and certainly kept us on our toes! We also touched on grammar which was useful background knowledge on day one. Day two delved into grading of students and various English levels. It was very inspiring and has provided me with motivation to complete the rest of the online course. I'm now very excited to put my learnings into practice!
