Jaipur and Chiang Mai Medical Internships

I had an amazing experience with Volunteering Solutions’ medical programs in Jaipur, India and Chiang Mai, Thailand. In Jaipur, I had more hands-on opportunities and learned directly from healthcare professionals, while in Chiang Mai I gained valuable insight into hospital practices and cultural approaches to medicine. Both programs were well-organized, culturally immersive, and incredibly rewarding. I highly recommend Volunteering Solutions to anyone interested in medical volunteering abroad!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
In Thailand I ate bugs!

Best trip ever

Best trip ever! 1000% recommend. I love Jenny. I had so much fun and ate the best food ever and saw so many cool things. I volunteered in a hospital and had a blast and drew blood and took vitals and spoke Spanish. I didn’t need to be fluent in Spanish so that’s nice. I’m going to go again because I loved this program and my host family was super nice. We had the best people to stay with and they made us the best food and snacks. The tea is super good and the views are insanely cool. I like the transportation too.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Guinea pig.

Hi Dustin,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such an amazing time—both with your host family and during your hospital volunteering. It’s wonderful that you felt supported, enjoyed the food and views, and even picked up some Spanish along the way. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to Jenny and the team—they’ll be delighted! We can’t wait to welcome you back for another unforgettable trip.

Jenny Torres & Volunteering Solutions Team for 1 week Special Program, included Machu Picchu Trip

Volunteering, Sol facilitated a meeting before our 1-week trip to Cusco of 3 moms & 17 yo sons, where we specified we wanted a private Machu Picchu tour. Jenny is the site coordinator and made herself available to meet virtually, where she answered dozens of questions. Jenny picked us up from the airport & took us to the host family, Elizabeth & Carla, who were very hospitable. We felt we made an impact working with these kids. Jenny accompanied us on our trip to Machu Picchu & it was a neat personal touch with breathtaking views! The host bedroom was clear, but cold showers in a shared bathroom. Peru doesn’t allow TP in the toilet, which was the biggest adjustment.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Jenny Torres did a wonderful job coordinating with our host family and the kindergarten volunteering. She is a super mom wearing multiple hats and is patient, kind, and accessible. It can be tiring for even fit mothers in their 40s and 50s and really is meant for college kids staying with a host family - perhaps next time I would have stayed at a hotel in Cusco. I would have planned the trip to Machu Picchu perhaps myself and stayed at the Sanctuary Lodge rather than an Aguas Calientes hotel. Hire your own driver if you're going with a group. Even though one of us fell ill, our private driver helped secure a home doctor's visit and get us to the pharmacy to get some medications we didn't pack enough of. Even though I don't have any regrets, these are just a few changes I would make if I was advising someone else doing a similar trip with their children.
Pros
  • Culture and People
  • Private Trip to Machu Picchu
  • Tears of joy from a close bond made from just a short time working with the children
Cons
  • Cold showers and shared bathrooms with people we didn't know
  • No toilet paper in any Peruvian toilet
  • Little room for down time to rest for a 1 week trip
Response from Volunteering Solutions

Hi Bina,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review! We’re so glad you and your group had a meaningful experience in Cusco. It’s wonderful to hear that Jenny was able to support you from start to finish—from answering your questions beforehand to guiding you on your unforgettable Machu Picchu trip. We’ll also pass along your appreciation to Elizabeth and Carla for their hospitality. We’re delighted you felt your work with the kids made an impact, and we truly value your feedback about accommodations and cultural adjustments—it helps future travelers prepare. We hope to welcome you on another adventure soon!

Very solid project - highly recommended

This project is just great from arrival to departure. It has low costs and delivers big time. The information provided upon arrival is really helpful to understand the motivation for such project. You'll be living together with volunteers helping with childcare or teaching English at the school nearby. Hence many young people are to be met. The project's impact can be seen with own eyes when you go for snorkeling or free diving and your contribution will have longterm influence on the reef development. The local food is great for all sorts of diets no matter if vegetarian or vegan - it is prepared freshly by the cooks. The camp is kept clean on a daily basis and the staff is very supportive and lovely. I personally recommend this project to everyone who's into marine conservation, diving or snorkeling. The beach is just 50m away from the camp - make use of it. I loved it and was sad when I had to leave!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would give two advices for this project. The first is to bring your own snorkeling equipment, as activities in the water are the best way to use your spare time. If you go for snorkeling 7am or 5pm, you might see more marine fauna than during the day and possibly turtles or a tuna.
The second advice is to book 1-2 weeks initially and extend your stay on demand together with the local staff. The project is really great and meaningful but quite far away from tourist places and some long-term volunteers got bored after several weeks.
Pros
  • Meaningful - great impact
  • Well organized - lovely staff
  • Affordable - good cost-performance ratio
Cons
  • Farther away from tourist attractions

Hello Leonard,
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience of the trip to Bali. We’re thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed every part of the project—from the meaningful conservation work to the amazing local food and supportive team. It’s wonderful that you connected with other volunteers and saw firsthand the positive impact on the reef. We’re especially glad you made the most of the beach and snorkeling opportunities right at your doorstep! Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we hope to welcome you back for more marine adventures in the future.

Slum education programme, Jaipur

I had an amazing experience in Jaipur where I volunteered with a small group of kids from the slums in the east of the beautiful city, Jaipur.

The staff was so kind and accommodating, and they felt like friends. The small number of volunteers who do the Jaipur programme means that whatever programme you are doing, you feel like a family.

Plus, Jaipur is the most beautiful and lovely city with so much to do and see!

I appreciate not just the programme I did but all of the programmes offered, as they are definitely a worthwhile experience.

What was your funniest moment?
Teaching the kids yoga!
Pros
  • Accommodation
  • Staff
  • Community
Cons
  • Paying for transport to and from programmes
  • No home-cooked meal (all take out)
  • Not doing it for long enough!
Response from Volunteering Solutions

The close-knit volunteer group in Jaipur truly creates that special “family” atmosphere, and we’re glad you felt it too. We couldn’t agree more—Jaipur is such a vibrant and beautiful city with so much to explore! We’re grateful for your kind words about our programs and hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable experience soon.

Arusha, Tanzania

I love that Volunteering Solutions partners with local NGOs in the volunteering locations. It's important because no one knows about their own country more than locals. Everything was organized and easy to navigate. The price is fair given what's offered. I also appreciate their information packet. This is extremely helpful for first time volunteers, and helped me contact the right people when I had a hiccup in my own trip. Everyone has been kind and helpful throughout the entire process, from welcoming me, checking in during my trip, and follow up ftwr my volunteering was completed. Overall, the experience was absolutely wonderful!

What would you improve about this program?
Karibu Foundation has multiple projects they're working on with different local NGOs. I feel it would be helpful if all Partnering NGOs provided an overview of each specific project, so volunteers could choose before instead of upon arrival. I feel this can help volunteers better prepare for whatever project they choose.
Pros
  • Helping people
  • Meet new people
  • Try new things
Cons
  • Time, it's cultural but they expect you to be ready when they are, but when you need to be somewhere, you're expected to wait
  • White people (foreigner) pricing, locals including NGOs take advantage of foreigners
  • Lack of communications on project options until arrival, needs more organization
Response from Volunteering Solutions

Amazing experience

I’m a med student and I was in the Mnazi Mmoja hospital in Stone Town (Zanzibar) for a medical volunteering program.
Everything is amazing, from the support that you will receive before starting this experience to the things that you will do during the program. So I really recommend this! You’ll get to know a different reality, you will make friends with other volunteers, you can also help in the hospital, and you will remember this for the rest of your life. Everybody can do this, even if you don’t have medical knowledge, for me it’s better to have at least some basics to be able to help them, but you can also just watch and learn.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Most surprising thing was seeing the maternity ward, it’s totally different from ours, but it was also amazing seeing deliveries and c-sections, and the conditions in which they perform them, with cats on the beds with the mothers that are about to have a baby.
Pros
  • Be able to help
  • Seeing a different reality
  • Be friends with other volunteers
Cons
  • The poor conditions
  • Lack of hot water
  • Food (but if you want you can always go in restaurants on the beach that are cheap and very good)

Loved Every Minute

I used VolSol to organise a 2-week trip to Thailand for a group of 14. The group was very diverse as the ages ranged from 19 to 60 plus so not a typical group. From start to finish they have been absolutely amazing. Communication with the company is brilliant. Sahil responded to any questions promptly. I initially picked one of the 2 weeks specials but then VolSol tailored it to suit our needs. I have organised group trips before, but I was blown away by how meticulously planned this one was. We spent 5 days at Hug elephant sanctuary and every day we were kept busy with activities. All activities were delivered by the locals which made it extra special. Food was included on many of the days and again I cannot fault it. There was always plenty, it was always freshly prepared, and they catered for any dietary requirements. Bottled water was on hand all the time. The facilities were more than adequate, and the camp was very clean and well maintained. Staff were lovely and went out of their way to ensure we were looked after. I loved my time here.

I had asked if we could visit a local school as many of us work in education. We paid a little extra for this, but the money was used to buy sports kits and water for the students, which we then got to present to the students on arrival. I have organised trips before where this money would have just gone into the company’s pocket, so it was lovely to see it being used in such a positive way.

We crammed so much into the 2 weeks, and we got to try things that we wouldn’t typically have done had we not gone with VolSol such as an E-Scooter tour of Bangkok, rafting and kayaking. Again, all very well organised and all needs catered for.

Our guide Fighter only added to our experience.  He is so knowledgeable about everything. On our free days we told him what we would like to do and within a few hours he had sorted it. He was very attentive and always made sure everyone was ok. Every evening, we were given the information for the following day, so we always woke up knowing what the day looked like. He literally never stopped working as he even accompanied us in the evenings when he didn’t have to. He took us to some beautiful restaurants which we would never have known about without him.

I cannot fault VolSol and I would definitely recommend them. I hope if you book onto this trip you are lucky enough to get Fighter as a guide as he is truly perfect for the job.

Thank you Fighter and VolSol for such a memorable trip.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Riding an E-scooter in Bangkok as I would never dared to have done this.
Pros
  • Getting to do things I wouldn't normally do.
  • The organisation of the trip.
  • Our guide Fighter as he is simply amazing.
Cons
  • Having to come home.
