Ocean Star

I loved seamester and all the great people on board. But my favorite time would have two be then last day, you realized these people who your crying over because your living is your new family and no matter how far you are away from each other they will always be here for you.

Cheese In a Cup

Life aboard OStar is fast paced and always changing. Becoming friends with 19 people while learning how to sail can be a daunting task but the nervousness quickly passes because you must work as a team if you're going to sail OStar. Learning how to sail almost comes naturally, thanks to the knowledgeable and exciting staff. You begin to know your crew mates very well and after a long tiring day when you are doing dishes and slightly delusional you come up with songs like cheese in a cup. These moments are what bond you into an OStar family, a family that you will always miss and never forget. This trip was a life changing experience for me and I would encourage anyone to become a part of the OStar family.

Sailing outside your comfort zone

I can't describe this voyage in words, it is something that I wish everyone could experience and I highly recommend that if you have the opportunity to, do it! This was a completely life changing and rewarding trip, with memories I will never forget. One of my favorite memories was hiking to the last boiling lake in the world on the island of Dominica. The hike was beautiful and we got to end the day long hike with swimming in a refreshing river complete with waterfalls and natural whirlpools.

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing I would change would be allowing the students to sleep in a bit longer after night passages.

FriendSHIPs

The adventure was not to be believed. I learned so much about myself and other people on this trip. I saw beautiful places and was humbled by the challenge of sailing and the fact that nature is in charge. I made life long friends and explored with them. Living with people like I did on Ocean Star made me feel more prepared for college. It reminded me that being a part of a community means finding your place and helping others do so. Be respectful and get to know everyone. I wish I could go back and do it again. It was amazing. Highly suggest this program if you want to challenge yourself and meet awesome people.

What would you improve about this program?
More experience working with smaller boats (sailing and motor).

Best Summer Ever

The trips from the BVIs to Dominica may be rough, but they're all worth it. Dominica has some of the most incredible diving and hiking that I have ever done. Thank god Seamester plans the longest stay there because there are endless activities to be done. The boiling lake hike, while challenging, is one of the most rewarding experiences. Once you leave Dominica it is all smooth sailing back up island. The courses may seem to get more intense at this point, but they're never overwhelming to the point of interfering with the overall experience.

the best!!!!

my trip with seamester was more than i had ever dreamed of -- i mean, living on boat in the caribbean for three months?! so cool. the trip itself was incredible; i loved sailing and diving and grew so much in my knowledge and confidence in both. classes were difficult at times, but always fun. i'm not a science person, but there's definitely no better place to take marine biology or oceanography than on a boat. i loved getting to meet other students and build friendships with people who i wouldn't have ever met without this trip. the friendships i made were so deep and i know i'll value them forever. the staff rocked -- i loved getting to know them and become friends with them. it's not every day that you get to hang out with your teachers (or would even want to), but i loved being with them! going on shore at all the different islands taught me so much about different cultures and i loved being a part of something bigger than myself. i loved using my phone way less than i do at home and getting to focus on other people and other cultures and learning to work as a team. seamester was a life changing experience and i'm so thankful for the opportunity i had!

What would you improve about this program?
a little bit more free time to spending studying -- it was hard to balance school with boat life at times

Off the Grid

I studied abroad in the BVI’s to give myself a break and meet new people to sail and scuba dive with. For 80 days I completely went off the grid and I reflected about what I want to accomplish my senior year of college. This study Abroad gave me that and much more. I went scuba diving got certified in open water and advanced. Also got a chance to sail and travel around the Caribbean learning new things. Classes were made fun and the teachers were great. I made amazing friends and I loved the experience of being away from home and experiencing the ocean.

What would you improve about this program?
Housing was compact.
