Learning Out of Your Comfort Zone

It was difficult and also satisfying to learn TESOL in a whole new setting. An additional level of complexity was added when I started this adventure in a foreign nation where English was not my primary language.

At first, the language barrier was a major challenge. It was necessary to communicate fundamental ideas in the local tongue for day-to-day interactions, let alone attempt to teach in English successfully. I had to discover creative, persistent, and patient strategies to get over the language barrier. I frequently found myself using gestures, pictures, and abbreviated language to express concepts.

Cultural differences were also quite important. Teaching strategies that worked well for me back home didn't always connect with my students here. I had to modify my methodology, integrating regional traditions, principles, and passions into my teachings. This enhanced my comprehension of my students' viewpoints and experiences while also making the learning process more meaningful for them.

The chance to see the power of language personally was one of the most influential parts of learning TESOL in this setting. It was so enjoyable to watch my students become more confident in their English-speaking skills and to see their happiness when they were able to communicate in English. It highlighted how important language is as a weapon for empowerment and connection.

In addition, overcoming the difficulties of teaching in a foreign country pushed me to regularly move outside of my comfort zone. It forced me to accept inconsistencies, flexibility, and perseverance. With time, I became more sensitive to the needs of language learners and gained a deeper appreciation for different cultures.

To sum up, taking TESOL classes outside of my comfort zone changed my life and improved my teaching abilities while also extending my perspective. I gained important knowledge from it about persistence, communication, and cultural understanding. Most significantly, it strengthened my love for teaching and motivated me to keep looking for fresh approaches to have a significant influence on the field of education.

TESOL Training

I am a mom of a 10-month-old baby currently living in Asia. I am not someone who excels with online learning platforms. I am a kinesthetic learner. This always made me timid when it came to furthering any type of education. However, due to my current location online had become my only option. After searching out many different platforms I chose this one. I loved that this program was well laid out and self-paced. I could get an hour or two in during my baby's naps and easily follow along. I am grateful for this resource.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I've eaten many things, but bone marrow sacs filled with piping hot liquid bone marrow was quite the experience. Honestly tasted like a cartilage crispy chip bursting with movie theater butter popcorn.
Pros
  • self paced
  • linier
  • condensed content
Cons
  • make me practice it more
  • have option to join a class virtually

Online class with Word Tesol Academy

It was super nice to learn how to teach on line so I could manage my roster the way I wanted. Very easy to follow the lessons and to go back on previous lessons when I needed. There are also videos that give a great idea of how we can teach and how it happens.
It's also very easy to engage, not that expensive, specially considering all the opportunities it can bring. You can easily connect and disconnect, which allow you to do 10 minutes lesson here and there. There are several tests to follow your progress and no pressure on time to do them.
I only can recommend !!

Shahnaaz TEFL Online Review

I believe every module is accurate and informative as it relates to the English language and learning how to teach non-native speakers. The information was detailed yet easy to understand. The video clips and attached documents made understanding and remembering certain information easier and more effective. The format of the quiz at the end of each module was simple and covered important points from the module. Having the oppurtunity to retake the quiz at any point made me less anxious. Displaying the percentage of work done was encouraging and helped me plan my time accordingly to complete the course within in the time frame.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The final quiz
Pros
  • easy
Cons
  • many questions

An excellent programme for a non-Native English teacher

I am glad that I found this platform to test my grammar skills and sharpen my teaching skills, and I am now very excited that I have carved out a path to teach English abroad or online.
The 120-hour TESOL/ TEFL course has escalated my confidence level and laid a cornerstone for my strong English language foundation.
I am now an eligible non-Native English teacher wishing to teach English courses online or abroad.
I recommend this course to anyone pursuing an opportunity to teach English as a foreign language in a different cultural setting.
Kudos to team World TESOL Academy!

What was your funniest moment?
The way the teacher, Jay, engaged the students through various fun-filled activities. And responses from young learners were quite entertaining and worth watching.
Pros
  • Different strategies for engaging classes.
  • Grammar is a crucial part of English teaching and learning.
  • Having students from different cultures for one purpose- learning English.
Cons
  • No real method of testing the teacher's ability live.
  • No proper communication sessions with trainers during the training period. As a result, it sometimes seemed monotonous.
  • No embossed seal on an electronic version of certificate.

120-hour TESOL/TEFL course

I enjoyed the course a lot. I have more than 20 years of experience in teaching English as a foreign language, English for Aacademic Purposes, TOEFL prep, English for Medical Purposes and OET prep at university level. This course has helped me brush up my teaching skills and update my professional knowledge. However, there was one thing I have found disappointing and discouraging about the course: all the observation videos were excerpts taken from one single teacher (called teacher Jay) teaching a group of kindergarten kids. Now, if this were a course of TEYP only (teaching English to young leaners), then it would have been all right. However, a 120 hour TESOL /TEFL certificate course should have had a more balanced approach when it came to presenting examples of diverse teaching enviroments including all age groups and various types of English courses. I would very much like to have seen examples of class observations where different ELT instructors teach teenagers, adults, and business professionals etc. in such a general course. Not everybody teaches or will be teaching young learners after they get their TESOL / TEFL certificate.

What was your funniest moment?
None

  • engaging
  • an interface that is easy to use
Cons
  • observation videos are from classes teaching to kindergarten kids only
  • observation classes are from one teacher only
  • quizzes are too easy
