ITA Review

The instructors were great. Very knowledgeable and gave constructive criticism on the assignments. I learned a lot through ITA and am grateful for their teachings.
The one thing I do not like about how ITA is set up is how you have no assistance locating a placement. I am having an extremely difficult time and have been unsuccessful in locating an in-person placement so far. Even the "preferred locations" have been a bust.
Overall, it has been a great experience and I am more prepared for teaching in a classroom.

TEFL CERTIFICATION PROVIDES ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES!

Receiving my TEFL certification has opened many doors for me in the world of teaching as well as becoming an entrepreneur in the expatriate world. My time during the TEFL program was challenging but also very rewarding. It gave me the exact tools needed to feel confident to teach abroad.

After graduating from the TEFL program, I continued to travel for a few months and then one week before my flight home, I canceled my return trip and decided to stay in Germany. I wasn't ready to end this amazing experience. However, after traveling for another four months, I was faced with that very scary question of 'NOW WHAT?'. I was in Germany with no place to live and not one single job lined up. This was when I really sat down and turned my daydream plans into a reality! I started my own language academy for private teaching called Speakeasy Language Academy. We assist and promote teachers to legally and professionally teach privately around the world. A few years later, my partner and I started a second company called Expat Launcher that offers full-service assistance to expats looking to move to Germany. We are truly their one-stop shop for all things abroad. We assist with services like apartment search, registering, health insurance, and visa process just to name a few.

I truly believe that if I didn't take the TEFL program, my life would have still had one amazing year of traveling the world, but I would have gone back to the states and continued in the corporate world. This would be a dream for most, but I wanted something completely different. I have been very fortunate to live, teach and work aboard for the past 4 years. The best part is that we get to help others that want to do the same.

A few things that have impacted my life would be teaching young learners. It is amazing to watch their eyes light up when they understand something you've taught them. It is a very special gift and something that I hold dear to my heart. Also, my travel adventures have made me grow as a person. In the past year alone, I've had the pleasure of 18 trips to 2 different continents, 5 new countries, and roughly over 100 cities, towns and villages that I've thoroughly explored.

Some of my favorite moments since receiving my TEFL would include traveling around Egypt for 5 weeks, scuba diving in the red sea and taking a sailboat along the Nile for 4 days. Another amazing journey was volunteering in South Africa, where I got to hold and bottle feed lion cubs and watch them as they went from drinking milk to eating meat. I walked side-by-side with elephants and lived with wild animals all around us.

My advice to anyone considering taking the TEFL program would be to do it! Opportunities will present themselves throughout your life and yet only a few people jump on them. Don't question yourself and do what makes you happy. You can always go home if teaching abroad isn't for you.

Overall very good

I enjoyed my TEFL course but it was not terribly difficult. My certificate has certainly made me much more marketable and valuable in China. The market for teachers is so high in China they hire many non-native English speakers, mostly from Russia, and try to pass them off as native speakers. Being a native speaker with a degree and a TEFL certificate increases a teacher's salary by a very large margin in China.

Better help with job search guidance.

TEFL Academy Review

I have always loved traveling, learning about other cultures, meeting new people, and just immersing myself in completely different worlds. After graduating, I knew I wanted to spend some time traveling and living abroad, so I knew that I would have to find a way to support myself while doing that. After graduating with a degree in education, I thought teaching abroad would be the best option for me. When I began my research on how to do that, one word (acronym, at that) kept coming up: TEFL. I enrolled for the online course right to begin right after graduation and I really have no complaints about the entire process. The advisors that I spoke to were extremely knowledgeable and willing to help with whatever questions I have. The course instructor created assignments that took the course readings to the next level and really maximized our learning. Finally, the content taught was valuable and covered a wide range of experiences while teaching and living abroad. While it was a little pricey, I truly believe that the growth I will experience as a human being while living in a foreign country will make it all worth it.

ITA ONLINE

This program was so well put together, you had very clear guidelines, ebook and professor live lessons, i really enjoyed being able to schedule my course around my work schedule at the time. The practicum was extremely insightful and great tool to network too. i highly suggest taking this course it was so reasonable, affordable and useful to me in my job searches. They also provided great job searching tools and alumni facebook groups that we were able to join and gather more "from the field" real life experiences from the specific country you were interested in.

International TEFL Academy

Super helpful staff from beginning to end. My teacher was great and answered all of my questions. The resources they provide for students are unparalleled. I took the online TEFL course. I would say the online course needs to have more in class practice. Nothing can replace in class experience teaching to students. My one suggestion would be to have approved locations where students can complete their practicum hours to get real hands on experience teaching before teachers head to their first teaching job.

What would you improve about this program?
Having satellite schools or instructors that can assist alumni or current students with real classroom settings as they complete their practicum so they are better prepared before heading to their new job.

Great experience!

I had a great experience with obtaining my TEFL certification. Student affairs was always available to answer my numerous questions about obtaining a visa and a job once abroad. The practicum by far was the most helpful portion of the course for me! Course work and in class experience are very different and it really helped to observe some classes before working online or abroad! Students in the classes I observed eventually relied on me to answer their questions with class work and homework which really helped my confidence in the classroom and is something I will always remember!

What would you improve about this program?
I would suggest offering more help with understanding the requirements for obtaining a visa. It was a confusing process. A thorough breakdown would be very helpful.

Gateway to the world

ITA is an excellent company to get your teaching certification through. I'm very glad that I used their services. Not only was it a simple process to get the certification, but they support you even after you've completed your program. I think my favorite thing about ITA is the community groups on Facebook in which fellow alumni help provide information about the various locations you want to teach in. All the major areas have their own page, like South Korea, Japan, etc. The website and the information on Facebook really prepared me for my travel to South Korea. Considering I can go live in over 60 countries, it really is a gateway to discover the world. I'm enjoying learning the culture and language of my host country. You should come join the adventure!

Awesome

I had a great experience with ITA. I like in person classes for accountability and they provided that in the Chicago class. I found the work in the class harder than any class I had taken in college. It was difficult but really rewarding. I ended up teaching in South Korea now for almost 2 years. I will be able to pay off my student loans. Yaay. I also discovered I want to be a kindergarten teacher. It changed my life and I am really happy.

What would you improve about this program?
I honestly think it's the best program out there.
I have some ideas
1. Have a private site for all alumni you can log in to forever. They have a private site during your time in the classroom but after it disappears. They could offer extended courses and I might pay for them.
2. Assistance after teaching: after having taught for a year and a half I knew I wanted to be a teacher in the USA. I didn't know how to go about getting qualified. No one I knew had done it and I didn't know what company to use. The company is right there along every step of the way with you. It would be nice if they could offer assistance with continuing my education. I could also make more money with a usa teaching certificate overseas.

The best decision I've ever made

I've been wanting to teach in South Korea for about 4 years now, and I finally plucked up the courage to get a TEFL certification. Although the price is steep, IT IS SO WORTH IT. ITA is responsive, comprehensive, engaging, challenging, and rewarding! I did the online course because I was in my last year of Bachelors and, although the workload was appropriately large, I never felt overwhelmed, and spent 10 weeks learning. I would recommend this program, no question.
