Useful Programme

The TEFL Nomad course covered a wide range of topics giving me the confidence to move abroad to peruse my dream of teaching English. It developed my understanding of grammar and teaching practices. It also contains podcast style videos that make the course seem more personal. These also give you advise and tips from someone who is experienced in teaching English as a foreign language. Thanks to this course I am now ready to make my fist teaching adventure and hopefully can begin a rewarding life long career.

Excellent course for aspiring TEFL teachers

I thoroughly enjoyed my course. It was easy to navigate, and the end-of-module tests were particularly motivating and kept me on track with my concentration and engagement. The course was easy to follow/access, which meant I completed it quite quickly (considering it is advertised as a 120-hour course!). I found the intervals of podcast episodes from James to also be a really useful thing since it broke up the learning and made a nice change of reading from a screen. The structure of the course was also very linear and logical, so the information being taught to you doesn't go straight over your head!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I opened a Word document alongside the tab I had opened for the TEFL course and took notes like I would in a lecture. This was super helpful as I ended up jotting down many useful tips for my teaching days, and now I'm left with an organised Word document filled with many tips and reminders for when I'm teaching!
Pros
  • Accessible
  • Straight-forward
  • Engaging

TEFL Nomad Review

This course covers a lot of really important content and short modules, which have been super helpful for me as a jumping-off-point. Because the course covers a lot you might feel like you want more detail on specific areas. For example, I am teaching young primary schoolers, so the lessons on adult, or online classes were not completely applicable, but they were interesting. Nonetheless, the lessons on young learners and classroom management caught my attention, and I made sure to keep notes and research further. This was my philosophy for this course. Graze everything and focus on content that I know will apply to me. The course also is available for a couple of months after you complete the certificate, so you can always reference back to the course material

I also appreciated this course because I was working a full -time job while completing the certification and the website was really easy to find where you last left off (if you're logging on and off regularly).

Really good material

The TEFL training had really good material. This was the second time taking this type of training but I did feel like it covered a lot more. I learned about teacher expectations, grammar, organizing materials what I should expect in a classroom and how to prepare for class. The training gave multiple examples and worksheets. It’s easy to navigate as you go from module to module. There were also brief podcasts with James which was a nice addition to each course and gave a nice flow in the lessons.

TEFL Nomad course

The TEFL Nomad course is a really great TEFL course, very interactive especially with the podcasts with James guiding you through the course! You also get the chance to learn about teaching English online which many TEFL courses do not teach. The multiple choice questions also help you easily keep track of everything you've learnt so far. This course also has lesson plans, as well as worksheet examples and marking criteria. I am very excited to use my newfound knowledge in my upcoming teaching job in Thailand!

Easy to follow and very comprehensive

I thoroughly recommend this programme. Whilst the content is challenging in places, it follows a logical route which is thoroughly comprehensive. The end of module tests are a great addition to test what you have learnt and the podcasts are helpful and friendly! Whilst this is online, the addition of podcasts makes it feel more personal and provides insights which otherwise would be lost. Whilst a time commitment, being able to progress at your own pace is very helpful, and alleviates any feelings of burden! All interesting content and so so enjoyable!

Would recommend!

A well thought out and well structured course. Provided clear insight into experience with the podcasts, and gave lots of clear and engaging examples that can be adapted to real world teaching. All explanations were clear and concise to understand. The end of unit tests were also a great tool in testing my understanding of learning. It was also a clear course to navigate and modules were organised into manageable chunks that u could go through at my own pace. I shall definitely be carrying on these methods and concepts into my own teaching

Great Course

A very well structured and interesting course. I found the information quite valuable, especially with the use of presentations as well as examples. The topics are well organized and have a nice flow to it which makes it easy to follow. I found that the tips given to us by the course that include teaching strategies and classroom management will be extremely useful in the future. The course also includes material on grammar which is useful as a revision. The course was really enjoyable and I feel better prepared to teach English as a second language!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

TEFL Nomad Review

First off this course was a great refresher, even as someone who grew up speaking English as my first language I found a few things quite useful. I appreciated the touch up on a multitude of grammar lessons that while I understand from a speaking and day to day perspective, isn't always as straight forward from a teaching perspective.

Also as someone who has taught at different levels before, there were simple reminders like to make Kahoots (if the school allows for) or other fun activities to best engage the students. All in all it was a helpful course for someone going to teach abroad soon.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Getting through the grueling grammar sections, there was nothing much to it than focusing with full attention to get it out of the way.
Pros
  • Insight to teaching structure again
  • Relearning the baseline of English grammar
Cons
  • Tedious in certain sections
