GVS Learning

I am a PhD student at Tsinghua University, I am taking oral language courses at Global Village School, I am from Pakistan, I have been living in Beijing for 5 years, this school is very close to every university, and it is also very close to the subway station.

Speaking of Ms. Liu, who taught me Chinese, she was a good conversationalist. We became friends very quickly. We even went to bars and restaurants together on some weekends. Our Chinese class is always full of laughter because I am a joker myself, we also learned a lot of local words and popular words on the Internet, which makes me feel that every class is very rewarding. Although I know there are many activities in this school, such as making dumplings and cutting paper, I like studying here very much.

Chinese learn trip

At first, I didn't know where the Global Village School was, but a friend told me he studied here, near Peking University or something. Still, I don't have much time to take classes during the day, so I chose online, my level is probably elementary I think, and I want to improve my spoken level, I feel that the class here is very pragmatic, and my teacher, Miss Wang, She knows my native language (Japanese), so she can always find my mistakes in learning, but she doesn't speak Japanese to much in class, to make me more focused on Chinese, you know, the feeling that she is guiding your learning process. All in all, it was awesome.

Sometimes I take part in some school activities and make a lot of friends. I highly recommend you to study here if you want to lay a good foundation for your Chinese.

Intensive Program at Global Village School

I had an intensive language program at the Global Village School for 4 weeks to improve my Chinese. Although my language skills was difficult to grade as an heritage student (speaking and listening advanced, reading and writing low to intermediate), the staff was very helpful to find classes that suit me best. All the teachers (several small groups, 1 to 1) were excellent. Due to the small size of the groups (3-6 people) the lessons were very interactive. I asked them a lot of questions and they were very comitted to answer all of them. I met a lot of good people (also good for sozializing) and had a good time. As they offer online courses, you could also continue classes when you‘re back at home or travelling to other places. At least, I intend to do that.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Not one thing.
Pros
  • Excellent teachers
  • Small groups and 1 to 1
  • Live and online
Cons
  • Wish I had even more time there
  • The building is rather old, but the facilities good

Highly Recommend!

Learning at this school has been fun and I am making fast progress. Teachers are very professional and the school is very organized. The school is flexible and they can personalize the content and the logistics to suit my needs. This is great as I am more motivated to learn because the content is relevant and meaningful to what I want to learn and the school is flexible if I need a small change such as when I have a business trip and I have to adjust the class times due to travel. I highly recommend it!

Review of Global Village School

The school is quite flexible with the schedule of classes and provides personal assistance on different matters. If you have a question, everyone is willing to help. I also enjoyed the cultural activities they created for students, which gave an insight into chinese traditions. There is a nice and open atmosphere at the school, which doesn't make you feel pressured about learning. There are a lot of teachers with different teaching styles, so you can find out what works best for you. If you are looking for a comfortable atmosphere for learning without much pressure, this school could be the right choice.

Highly recommended

In this school, teachers and staffs are warm and kind. Also, there are many different levels of classes. It is very helpful to choose appropriate level depending on your language skill. Teachers are very professional and patient even you are not good at speaking. The tuition fee is reasonable. There are many culture exchange activities in this program. For example, making food, making traditional fan, drawing like this. My language skill has been improved dramatically in a short time. Thus, I'm very satisfied.

Such great support!

This school offers a variety of lessons. I personally lived one year in Beijing and had classes there! It was truly so nice to have a class with other foreigners, a teacher who actually supports you while talking Chinese. There’s plenty of chances to express your thought. This might be challenging and new at first, but just a matter of habit and it’s truly the best way and most fun way to learn the language!

Currently I take classes online from my home country Germany to china! I love this practice once a week. Time flies by and this way I don’t loose my language skills!!

What was your funniest moment?
Truly classes with my teacher! I like her humor and her energy! We often joke and there’s times when I really enjoy the classes topics!! I love all the discussions, online and in person!
Pros
  • Great support from office
  • Helpful and nice teachers
  • Chance to openly discuss
Cons
  • None!! Really NONE

Fun and effective!

I’ve been taking classes at Global Village for over a year now and I was able to pass HSK 6 faster than I thought thanks to all the amazing teachers! Now I’m attending a language course at one of the universities but I still choose to study at Global Village at the same time.

Not only does the school offer high-quality classes, but also they organize activities to immerse students in Chinese culture quite often. I was able to learn the culture and make friends there and my life in Beijing could not be better! Highly recommend this school for those who don’t give up both studying and having fun.

Excellent Learning Experience at Global Village School

I’ve been attending Chinese classes at Global Village School for a few months, and I’ve had a fantastic experience. As a beginner, I was nervous about learning a new language, but the teachers have been incredibly patient and supportive. They create a welcoming environment that makes learning enjoyable and not overwhelming.

The classes are well-structured, focusing on both speaking and listening skills, which has really helped me gain confidence in using the language. The teachers are approachable and take the time to explain difficult concepts, especially pronunciation and tones, which can be tricky. The small class sizes ensure personalised attention, and the learning materials are engaging and easy to follow.

Overall, I highly recommend Global Village School to anyone interested in learning Chinese. The combination of great teachers, flexible scheduling, and supportive atmosphere has made this a rewarding learning experience.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I had the chance to do it all over again, I’d probably focus more on practicing speaking from the very beginning. When I first started, I was a bit hesitant to speak up and made the mistake of prioritizing grammar and vocabulary over actual conversation. Now, I realize that real-life communication is where I’ve seen the most improvement. I’d also set aside more time for immersive experiences, like watching Chinese shows or speaking with native speakers outside of class, to get used to the flow of the language in everyday situations. Overall, though, I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made, and these small adjustments would just help me get there faster.
Pros
  • Personalised attention
  • Supportive environment
  • Engaging materials
Cons
  • Pacing
  • Limited cultural exposure
  • Pronunciation challenges

My experience

My experience at this school has been fulfilling. l had learned Chinese before and l always knew that l needed to improve my Chinese speaking skills and being at this school provided me with this opportunity. The teachers and the staff there are always available to help you with any problems you may face during the course of your learning. The classes are really interactive providing an opportunity to put into practice what you have learned. One important thing is also that they provide free tea and coffee 😊

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I encourage them to join this program because it will make it easier for them to communicate with the locals when they visit .This would also be an opportunity for them to learn and understand the Chinese culture.
Pros
  • A chance to learn Chinese from experienced, native teachers of the language
  • This course provides every student with the chance to participate and practice Chinese and the teachers will identify your weak points and offer help.
  • The teachers can speak English, this is a plus when one do not fully understand Chinese
