Learning Chinese is so fun!

I recently completed a 1:1 Chinese course, and it was an absolute game-changer! Here’s why:

1.Personalized Learning:
- Tailored lessons based on my goals (e.g., conversational fluency, HSK prep).
- The teacher adapted to my pace, making even tricky grammar feel manageable.

2. Cultural Immersion:
- Beyond textbooks, we discussed real-life scenarios, idioms, and even Chinese history—like the stories behind the Great Wall!

3.Flexible & Interactive:
- Classes were dynamic, mixing speaking drills, role-plays (e.g., ordering food in a Beijing hutong), and fun apps like HelloChinese.

4. Teacher’s Passion:
- My and my boy’s 老师 (lǎoshī) were patient and encouraging, turning mistakes into learning moments.

Tip: If you’re studying in China, pair classes with local experiences (e.g., bargaining at markets) to practice ASAP!

**Verdict**: 10/10 – Highly recommend for anyone serious about leveling up their Chinese!"*

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
China is far more developed than I ever imagined-modern cities, cutting-edge tech, and efficient infrastructure everywhere. It completely shattered my stereotypes. If you get the chance, I highly recommend visiting to experience it yourself!"
Pros
  • "A major advantage was learning not just everyday conversation, but also Chinese culture and history-plus authentic expressions you'd never find in textbooks. For example, I had no idea the word '卷' (juan) is used to describe hyper competitiveness

Fun Chinese Learning Class

The Chinese learning experience at Global Village School was a lot of fun and very valuable. You can create your own flexible learning schedule, as classes are available every day but you can just join whenever it suits your own schedule. The teacher of my class and also other staff are very kind and supportive. The classes not only helped me to improve my Chinese, but together with the other students we also had a great learning community.

If I return to Beijing, I would return to Global Village School and I can also encourage you to do so!

A supportive and fun learning experience.

The class is very helpful. We meet every day Monday-Friday. We are two students and the teacher in the class. The teacher is very enthusiastic and energetic. Her energy is very contagious. We laugh a lot during class and this helps a lot with the learning. The fact that we meet so frequently helps solidify the lessons into our heads and keep us track.

The community we have built is very supportive and patient. I never feel like my mistakes are a bad thing, and instead I see them as moments of learning. I have been able to learn a lot from my classmate and teacher beyond what the book we use contains.

What was your funniest moment?
It is hard to tell. We have had many moments where we laugh a lot. Every day there are at least one or two big laughs. This being said we are also very serious about learning. I believe this is the best way to study a language.
Pros
  • The teacher is very enthusiastic and energetic
  • The meeting times are very frequent.
Cons
  • The book we use feels incomplete. I wish it were more thorough.

So cool

I went to that school for 5 months, and I found it exceptional. I’ve met so many people, new friends. The teacher I had was perfect, we were working on specific subjects, and every time we needed something, there was someone to help us! Now I can have a conversation in chinses without worrying about being misunderstood. If you’re looking for a relaxed course, it’s the right place; the school is located in a good area. There are a lot of things to do around, places, restaurants, bars, clubs, and the subway station is not far at all!

My review

My daughter, who is 13 years old, enrolled in an elementary Chinese language course with Global Village Language School, Beijing, China. While the course was very advantegous in financial terms, course quality was superb. In the course, a relatively small group (5-10 people, most of them in their 20's) could enjoy, and profit of, the enthusiastic teaching of a lady teacher, who was keen on teaching pronunciation, vocab, structure, and, last but not least, the Chinese characters. She also always found extra time to deal with my daughter and whoever else among the students was ready to dedicate extra effort to her or his Chinese studies. The language school also organized - and that, on a regular basis - in-class and in-city cultural activities like cooking Chinese food, city walks, etc., in this way successfully building a community out of an originally haphazard group of students. The front desk staff is really caring; and the bottom line is that if we can come to Beijing again, we would definitely choose the same language school. Most sincerely recommended!

Flexible and Affordable: My Chinese Lessons at Global Village

I am a doctoral student from Japan. From 2023 to 2025, I took Chinese lessons at Global Village for two years. To be honest, the main reason I chose this school was the price. I was looking for an affordable option near Tsinghua University and happened to find it. Before my study abroad program began, I took online lessons, and after arriving in China, I attended in-person classes. Whether in a group or one-on-one, lessons were scheduled with students’ availability in mind. I really appreciated how flexible they were. There were also occasional extracurricular activities, and it was possible to take intensive lessons during the summer and winter breaks. I would recommend this school to those who find university Chinese classes unsatisfactory or who want to study while working.

Intermediate Spoken Chinese Improvement Course

The Intermediate Spoken Chinese course is a unique and valuable learning experience, especially for those looking to build real-world speaking skills. It goes beyond textbook learning by focusing on natural conversation and cultural context, helping students speak more confidently and authentically in everyday situations. The lessons are practical, engaging, and rooted in real-life scenarios, which makes the learning feel relevant and immediately useful.

One of the highlights of the course is the teacher, who brings both expertise and a supportive teaching style to every class. The small class size allows for more one-on-one engagement, giving each student plenty of opportunities to speak, ask questions, and receive personalized feedback. The teacher creates a comfortable environment where making mistakes is seen as a natural and important part of the learning process.

Classes are interactive and varied, with a good mix of structured content and open conversation practice. The consistent feedback and encouragement help build confidence over time, while the cultural insights woven into each lesson make the experience even richer. Overall, it’s a well-rounded and immersive course that truly helps students take their spoken Chinese to the next level.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Future learners—immerse yourself fully. Speak as much as possible, even if you make mistakes—that's how you improve. Review vocabulary regularly, and try to use new words in real conversations. Don’t be shy; active participation is key. Pair up with classmates for extra practice, and take advantage of any additional resources. Stay consistent, be patient with yourself, and you’ll see steady progress in fluency and confidence.

Good learning experience

I started this language program and I am pleased to receive structure, daily classes and constant support!

I have classes everyday during the week, and we are immersed completely in the Chinese language. We follow a course book but learn a lot on daily culture, habits and history. This is a great opportunity to boost your language level and learn more about the Chinese culture. Moreover, there are a lot of activities organized and recommend this program to anyone wanting to learn Chinese and connect with people

Experience at Global Village School

I took Chinese classes at Global Village School for 3 months. The teaching is very good and the teachers can speak a little English which helps a lot to understand grammar points, especially if you are a beginner in Chinese. The classes are also rather small with only 6-7 students which provides a perfect environnement to study Chinese. The price of the classes are affordable and the reception staff is always there to help if there is an issue and can speak a little English. Overall I had a very good experience at this school and would recommend it for others ! You also get to meet people in your class and other classes and make friends, and everyone has a different background which is very nice ! The free coffee, tea and water is also a good plus :)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice would be to come learn Chinese here and have fun learning ! To try and talk to the other students and make friends and to talk with the teachers about how to best study Chinese, or just casual conversation to improve your Chinese !
Pros
  • Good location
  • Good teachers
  • Free drinks
Cons
  • Not enough conversation exercises
  • Not enough oral comprehension exercises

Great experience

Global village is a great school with a very good team of professional teachers. I had a great time learning Chinese with my teacher: as a language teacher myself, I can tell she's very talented. I also occasionally had class with other teachers who were also very skilled and playful. I'm a person who likes to have fun and enjoy an open hearted conversation, and I feel like that was always the case here: the teachers were immediately quite friendly and willing to share personal thoughts about many topics, there's also a good sense of community and you easily mix up with other students and teachers during the group activities.

What was your funniest moment?
I think I had fun every time, my teacher has become way more like a friend by now so we joke all the time.
