My experience

As a freshman at John Cabot University in Rome, my experience has been nothing short of transformative. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I was immersed in a vibrant international community that embraced diversity and fostered intellectual curiosity.

Beyond the classroom, JCU offers a plethora of extracurricular activities and cultural experiences that have enriched my college experience. From volunteering at local charities to participating in study abroad programs, I've had the opportunity to engage with the community and broaden my perspective on global issues.

Overall, my freshman year at JCU has been an unforgettable journey of self-discovery, learning, and growth. I am grateful for the friendships formed, the knowledge gained, and the memories created, and I look forward to continuing my academic adventure at this exceptional institution.

Study Abroad

Very rigorous university. Definitely be aware that you will spend a lot of your time studying. The location is fantastic though, truly in the heart of Rome. Trips and Activities staff is great! This school was difficult but a worthwhile experience overall. I recommend coming but being aware that your GPA will be affected as grading is extremely difficult. The program is full of very interesting people and worthwhile if you put yourself out there. Good country I say it’s important to travel to smaller cities around Lazio.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would bring more snacks from home when coming here!

Study Abroad!

John Cabot was a very fun study abroad experience. It was really cool to experience Rome through the eyes of a Roman. Trastevere is the best area in Rome (I might be biased), so it was really cool having it as our home base. The teachers were lovely and the students were amazing!! I found myself very much at home in Rome. The food was also amazing. Being in Rome it is very easy to travel to other destinations, I saw the majority of Italy and many other places in Europe. Overall it was an amazing experience and I learned a ton!

review

It has always been a dream to come here and know it’s everything that I’ve expected. However I would check the experience or english level of professors beforehand since some of them speak really bad english and it’s almost impossible to understand them. Also it’s better to hire more professors as the slot hours are really limited and choosing one slot that works is overwhelming. Overall I would grade the university a 8/10.

Meeting New people

I have had an excellent semester abroad at JOHN CABOT in Rome because there I met whole banch of new people which was fun talking to them for me. Beside academic experience I havd had always the privilege of meeting new people from across the world. For example, students from the US, Italy, and France. Beside having an extremely fun semester I was able to travel and explore whole bunch of new places around Europe. I traveled to Norway, Sweden, and Spain. I just loved this experience which was full of memories.

An amazing opportunity for growth!

I loved my time at John Cabot! I was super hesitant about studying abroad before the semester started, but once I got there I was blown away by how fulfilling the experience was. The university gives students many opportunities to get involved with the community through service projects and field trips! I’m going to miss my walk to classes where I felt immersed in the culture around me. I’m also felt like I learned a lot about the Italian lifestyle from my professors and fellow students! Not to mention the food is amazing

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice is to always ask for help, which I know sounds obvious but you’d be amazed how long people will go without getting support. No one is expecting you to know everything! Don’t be afraid to reach out to professors, students, friends, and RAs.
Pros
  • Amazing food
  • Independence
  • Learn about a new culture
Cons
  • Homesickness
  • Long commutes
  • Language barrier

An Experience I Will Never Forget

I really enjoyed my experience at JCU. Coming into this program, I had no idea what to expect but after about four months here Trastevere feels like a second home. I was incredibly lucky to have my apartment right in the middle of the neighborhood which was amazing. The academics were challenging but also rewarding. The safety precautions the school takes are absolutely top notch. I was so impressed at how seriously the school takes the safety of the students. I would recommend JCU to anyone who is thinking about studying abroad.

What was your funniest moment?
When I was on the airport I saw my friend Jack who I grew up with and had not seen it years. After a little while we realized that we were both studying at JCU for the semester. It has been nice to catch up with him these past couple months.
