First time in Yangshuo

As it was my first time being in Yangshuo and in Guilin, it was fun for me to tour around town and go riding on a scooter to discover the place. Being surrounded by mountains and mingling with the locals were a wonderful experience. I’ve been living and working in China for more than 12 years; yet Yangshuo still offered a unique experience for me. It was also an educational experience to be able to learn Chinese at Omeida and admin staff members were very helpful in attending to my needs. The head teacher, Twelve, was very quick to offer me additional resources to help me improve my language skills. Anya, the manager, was also quick to answer any big and small questions that I had prior and during my time at the school. In future I hope to have more productive sessions with language partners so as to improve my communication skills. I also hope to have more speaking practices during lesson time when or if I decide to continue my studies at Omeida. Thank you!

Yangshuo is Magical

Yangshuo has it all: stunning scenery and Omeida language academy. I loved my three weeks here and wish I could extend my trip. My teacher created classes that were fun, engaging and had the right amount of rigor. (I loved our class field trips and outings together). Outside of class, the community in Omeida is so welcoming and friendly. I especially loved my time volunteering through 1:1s to meet students learning English and adventuring around with my language partner and new friends. Studying at Omeida in Yangshuo was an incredibly rewarding experience and I would loved to return.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Stay longer! Three weeks flew by, so I would definitely recommend staying longer if you can.
Pros
  • Local Yangshuo running crew is awesome!
  • Surrounding scenery is beautiful.
  • School runs an excellent program that combines language and cultural learning.

If you are thinking about it, it is really worth it

I was looking for a Chinese language school in China, and Omeida turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made.
From the moment I arrived in Yangshuo, I was amazed by how beautiful the town is. Surrounded by incredible mountains and breathtaking landscapes, it feels like a place straight out of a painting.
What makes Omeida special is not only the quality of the Chinese classes, but also the people. The staff is incredibly friendly, supportive, and genuinely cares about your experience. They organize trips, cultural activities, and events that allow you to learn more about China while meeting people from all around the world.
One of my favorite parts of Omeida was the community. You'll meet international students from many different countries, as well as Chinese students learning English. It's a great environment for making friends, exchanging cultures, and practicing languages every day.
I came to China to learn Chinese, but I left with much more than that: unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a much deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
I would highly recommend Omeida to anyone who wants to study Chinese in China. In fact, I'm already thinking about coming back in the future!
Thank you, Omeida, for such an amazing experience :)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future students is to come with an open mind and take advantage of every opportunity Omeida offers. Don't be afraid to talk to new people, join activities, and practice Chinese as much as possible, even if you're still a beginner. The more you immerse yourself in the language and culture, the more rewarding your experience will be.
Also, spend some time exploring Yangshuo. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, and it offers a unique combination of nature, culture, and international community :)
Pros
  • Friendly and supportive community
  • Beautiful location
  • Cultural immersion
Cons
  • Limited nightlife and city life
  • Language barrier outside the school
  • Time goes by too fast

3 weeks at omeida

The people here are genuinely so friendly and helpful you feel welcome the second you walk through the door. I only stayed for three weeks but I wish I could stay for months. They are partnered with many other programs so they can get you a discount on music lessons, rock climbing lessons, cooking lessons and more. I took 2 guzheng lessons a week for my time here and it was so much fun. The teachers are really nice and accommodating around your level, so there is no concern about being ahead or behind.

Pros
  • People are so friendly
  • Is not expensive
  • The Saturday excursions are so much fun
Cons
  • Omeida housing is a little expensive compared to other options
  • It’s a little difficult to cancel canteen tickets

Learning for fun

I am retired and decided that I wanted to to see a little of China and learn of the culture. I decided to enroll at Omeida Chinese Academy. I was there for three months and it was a great experience. The teachers and the admin staff were competent, supportive and attentive. The teaching was fun and interactive. Yangshuo is located amidst the Karst mountains, so the daily scenery was amazing. The social and cultural activities were really interesting and I enjoyed being there during New Year and Spring Festival. I was comfortably set in one of their apartments, quiet and clean. My fellow students were great and it was fun to not only learn Chinese but get a little insights in other peoples cultures and motivation for coming. And Omeida Chinese school being associated with its sister school, Omeida English School for Chinese people made it perfect for interaction and making Chinese friends.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Omeida is well known in Yangshuo and the school students were invited by a local paragliding company to experience it for a modest fee. So I had a 10 minutes flight on a paraglider. It was an amazing experience to fly like this and the view of the mountains and fields was superb. Not something I thought I would experience going to China.
Pros
  • Great teachers and staff. School overall is great for the teaching and the cultural and social life.
  • Yangshuo's scenery is spectacular.
  • Student life is fun
Cons
  • I am vegetarian. I personally feel that the food at their school canteen needs some improvement in taste and variety.

A once in a lifetime experience!

I think this is experience changed my life. Everything was well organised and all the people were amazing, including teachers, people in the office, Chinese & foreigner students, Ana & her mom from the coffee shop! I didnt only study Chinese here, I also got immersed in the culture and Omeida provides a lot of cultural activities like taichi, painting, caligraphy, art classes, etc. And the Guanxi people are so welcoming. It felt like home. There is no other school like this in China. Really grateful!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would stay for a longer time!
Pros
  • everybody is really friendly and social and you never feel alone
  • great teachers and classmates
  • the neighborhood is great
Cons
  • i would have loved to receive more info about things to do in the area
  • first days you feel a bit lost

Best experience in China

This is my third year coming to Omeida, and every time it's a wonderful experience. First of all, there is a unique program here where Chinese students study English, so they are happy to spend time with you. You can improve your Chinese language skills through real-life practice and also learn a lot about China from your new acquaintances using English. It's both learning and fun.

There are students of all ages, from high schoolers to retirees.

This year I also studied playing traditional Chinese musical instruments (thank you, Anna). The teaching staff is very good (love all my teacher), with pure Putonghua pronunciation and good English. Plus, the location in Yangshuo – one of the most scenic places in China.

There are many foreigners from all over the world and many Chinese students, so everyone can find a company to their liking – whether bar visits or Buddhist meditations.

I strongly recommend it to those who are planning to enter a Chinese university – after Omeida, you will fully adapt to China and will not find yourself isolated during your university studies, as often happens to those who go unprepared.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Join to the volunteer programs - you can make a real English lesson for ordinary Chinese school. It's really fun to have communication with children like a 老师
Pros
  • Friendship
  • Language's skills for real life
  • Knowledge about modern China

100% Kids Approved Chinese Program

I came across Omeida while searching for a Chinese language program for kids. From the inquiry phase, to the enrollment, check in the dorm all the way to check out day was smooth. The school has a cosy feel, conducive for learning a new language far away from the usual buzz and distractions of the city. It was a unique learning experience for all us.

We spent a month in Yangshuo while on weekends, we sometimes stayed in another area like Guilin. My son enjoyed the concept of learning Chinese while at the same time exploring new places, learning new culture, trying different Chinese dishes. When we don’t have anything planned or when he’s not in studying, he’s happy to spend his time playing pingpong in school. Time just passes quickly because he’s enjoying. To him, it was learning while having fun. It was made even more enjoyable because it was in a suitable setting where he can apply what he learned in his daily activities and interaction with the locals

We enrolled in a private 1-1 program because our school summer season was different from most parts of the world so joining a summer camp was not possible. Despite of it, they were able to customize a program for my son that he enjoyed. The materials used were of high quality. I noticed my son improved his confidence in spoken and even written Chinese in just 1 month. He was even sad and said he will miss the school but his face lit up when he learned that I enrolled him in the school’s Chinese online program.

Thank you Omeida for cultivating my son’s love for learning Chinese and for the fun experience. See you again online!

Pros
  • Very responsive
  • Effective teaching method
  • Beautiful and safe environment

Excellent Chinese Program for all ages

If you’re looking for a safe, nature-filled Chinese immersion experience for your kids, I can’t recommend Omeida enough! We preferred a relaxed environment away from the city hustle, and the setting here was ideal. The language program is top-notch, and the 24/7 student support made our stay seamless.

The housing was great, but the real highlight was the safe, welcoming community. It gave our kids the freedom to walk to school on their own and foster their independence. After only a month, they’ve gained a linguistic foundation we never thought possible in such a short time. We’re already looking forward to continuing their progress with online classes. It was truly a fantastic investment in their future.

Pros
  • Not polluted
  • Safe environment
  • Close knit community
Cons
  • Not a con but this is not the place for those who enjoy the nightlife and wants to party after class because this city is very tame compared to big cities as expected

Totally worth it!

I found Omeida researching Online, and applied for a two-week program beginning on March 10th, 2026. From the start it was a very intense intermediate regular course, so I could apply my Chinese knowledge in daily life. My placement was perfect. Teachers, staff and colleagues were very nice and helpful. I made many friends there. Environment is very cozy and friendly. Yangshuo is a beautiful little town, and we had many opportunities to appreciate the surroundings. I definitely recommend it to anyone serious about learning Chinese in an immersive environment. I look forward to going again, maybe for a longer period of intensive study.

What was your funniest moment?
Funniest moments were when Chinese people I was talking to realized I was a foreigner (as I am ethnic Chinese).
Pros
  • Very good teachers
  • Friendly and helpful staff and colleagues
  • Hands-on experience of chinese daily life
Cons
  • Need a longer period there (at least one month)
  • Miss the staff and colleagues
  • No other cons
